I asked Martin Houghton-Brown CEO of Missing People on twitter & apparently Kerry was there at downing street launch. Here is his reply to me
Martin HB @hblondon
@GILLYSPOT @msnuknews @missingpeople It took five years sadly, but glad we are there now, Kerry was there, she helped launch on ITV too
I am so very glad Kerry was asked and attended so can now only assume she didn't want the publicity from it (hard to understand). She is a strong & inspirational lady.
ETA Clarence was there as he is now PR for PACT (Parents & Abducted Children Together). Tweet from 26.4.07
PACT @FindTheKids
Pleased to announce that Clarence Mitchell has joined us as PR and Media advisor.

Look at the photo of Kate wth Nicki Durbin. Nicki's 19 year old son went missing in 2006 - look at her face. It is, as it is with most parents of children who have gone missing, the face of someone who has lost something of themselves. There's a haunted, lost quality about her face. Not with Kate - and Kate's, if anything, should be more anguished and lost looking given it's a young child she "lost".

Kate McCann is just reveling in the glory of all this celeb/political/royal mingling imo, and always the opportunity for a new posh frock.
As you say nomendelta the two faces of mothers of missing children, imo one gaunt through worry and grief, the other through restricted diet and exercise.

Glad I wasnt the only one that noticed. The latter looks like theyre posing for some fashion catalogue. Nasty sandals though. Wonder why she chose to wear a black dress on such an occasion and when the heat was incredible in London.

Kate has no dress sense at all imo, that dress is too short, doesn't do her any favours at all, showing knobbly knees, totally wrong scarf and those clodhopping sandals shortening her legs. Apart from that - she has a very 'boyish' figure, no waist, so it's a mistake to wear a belt.
She must work out a lot, those are very respectable deltoids showing.
So - going by the photograph meeting the Duchess of Gloucester she seems to revel in this environment. See the Expresso interview again - same thing.
No grieving mother she! (How does that work grammatically speaking?)

This piece from the Irish Evening Herald last evening Thursday 24th May 2012:
DIAL-IN AD AIDS HUNT FOR MISSING CHILDREN
An interactive cinema and TV advert has been launched to promote a new hotline to help find missing children.
This film is designed to raise awareness of a service operted by specialist support groups in 16 EU countries , including Ireland.
The film which will be shown on MTV , shows a young boy making a telephone call , apparently to his mother, who is waiting desperately for his return. After the woman answers his call , the film freezes and the audience is invited to phone a number to hear the conversation.
Those who ring the number will hear an exchange between the boy and a charity , which operates the 116000 hotline. For other viewers the advert will continue in silence.
The film for the charity Missing People is backed by Kate McCann , above , mother of missing Madeleine.
Could not get c/p to work so above is from piece in paper. ( Article by Sam Marsden/Evening Herald)

Yeah, I wouldn't feel like smiling for the cameras with the headlines from the DE last week.

She's TRYING......... period!
Missing people would have gotten a lot more money if they hadn't made a possible future suspect in a missing child case, their ambassador!
I know a lot of people that instantly STOPPED giving to them precisely because SHE was involved!

IMO Kate as ambassador has caused great harm to the charity. I am sure the charity are greatly aware of this also. I think the problem is a favour has been called in and their hands are tied.

Re: International Missing Children's Day
I think Kate's role as ambassador (not that I like or agree with it) is definitely good for the charity. People are interested in doing good - and that is an easy target audience. Kate loses a child, struggles, shows herself as a strong woman working against all odds and giving her time to others, pens a book, runs a marathon for other missing people, suffers at the hands of the media and still manages to bring up two well rounded children. Kate is dynamite for this charity's fund-raising. Kate is heavily marketed as the woman that fights against all odds and still looks good.
It's not how I feel about it, or would have it but in my opinion this is how things are in the fund-raising business.

In her first piece written for a newspaper Kate, whose daughter Madeleine was abducted in 2007, says: “The more of us who take part today, the greater the chance a child can be found. It’s that simple.”
KM urging people to Tweet to help find missing children. I hope those who Tweet just do it for a missing child and refrain from any libelous comments, imo she would be so quick to jump on that, just imagine the headlines!
I see the word abducted has raised it's head again.

If abducted hadn't been used I doubt she would have agreed to write the article. This is the Sun she is writing for.
Wonder if they are testing out her potential skills as a journalist, they do seem to think the sun shines out of her. Replacement for Becky Brooks maybe.

I really don't think you need to say "in my opinion" Cherry B!
The thought of Kate writing regular articles for a charity about missing people is stomach-churning. There can be few people in this world who would be more unsuitable and inappropriate than the sainted one.
She won't be pleased to merit only one sentence at the end of this article!

So, Madeleine WAS 'abducted' says the Sun.
Under the new press regulations, whether Leveson or the press themselves, we the people can challenged anything that is not FACTUALLY correct.
The papers can be fined up to £1.000.000 for printing something that is not a substantiated FACT.
As the Sun obviously has DEFINITIVE information that Madeleine was 'abducted' why haven't they passed on this information to SY?

I see the word abducted has raised it's head again.
Although the terms abduction and missing have become almost synonymous, they are not quite the same.
In long-term missing/abduction cases, the motivation is harder to evaluate, and the investigation usually focuses more on finding the "missing" child. Such cases are among the most difficult, frustrating and emotionally draining for law enforcement.
Children can be missing for a wide variety of reasons (e.g., runaway, throwaway, lost, injured, etc.) other than abduction and can be abducted for a wide variety of motivations (profit, ransom, custodial disputes, etc.)
What investigators are often presented with is simply the fact that a child is missing -- the child did not return home as expected. Family and friends want an immediate and aggressive response by law enforcement with the issuing of Amber Alerts.
Law enforcement, however, must consider and evaluate all possibilities.
