It occurred to me * bingo  * every year when similar news is reported about the continued funding of Operation Grange granted by the Home Office, the sum is always £300,000+.

Bearing in mind the Home Office allegedly grant funding to the police only when good reason has been established for continuing any one high profile investigation and can be paid in retrospect - the annual funding of Operation Grange appears to be a routine rubber stamp authorisation.

Neither Operation Grange nor the Met Police can provide good reason to continue investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for the simple reason .... there isn't a good reason!

Technically, the British police have no authority to investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, it is out of their jurisdiction - unless of course it relates to a crime committed on UK soil, like the questionable Find Madeleine Co Ltd, in which case fill yer boots!

By popular demand Operation Grange was established to collate and review all the documentation relating to the case back in 2011, two'ish years later they took it upon themselves to up-grade the unit to an investigation.  Not strictly legal without transparent justification for so doing.

The unit is there to assist the official Portuguese investigation, a point of liaison between the two countries - not to open or re-open an investigation of their own making, confirmation of that simple point can be attained by closely observing their conduct since the unit was formed.

There are no suspects other than the two identified by the Portuguese police back in the summer of 2007, they were and remain the prime suspects until such times as something crops up that might exonerate them.  The likelihood of that happening after all this time hovers around net zero.

The Home Office grant is a cosmetic exercise, just to keep the case open on paper.

Truth is dead !!!

Operation Grange

On 12 May 2011 the Met announced that, at the request of the Home Secretary, it had agreed to bring its particular expertise to the Madeleine McCann case.

The then Commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson, considered the request and took the decision that on balance it was the right thing to do. This was subject to funding being made available by the Home Office, as this case is beyond the Met’s jurisdiction.

Investigative review

The Met’s involvement, known as Operation Grange, is led by the Specialist Crime Command unit and involved, in the first instance, an ‘investigative review’. This was a review of all of the investigations that had been previously conducted into the circumstances of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.

Ongoing investigation

In July 2013 the status of the Met’s enquiries changed to that of an investigation, working with the Portuguese authorities to pursue specific lines of enquiry.

The Portuguese authorities retain the lead and the Met continues to work in support of them.

The Home Office continues to fund Operation Grange.

$16m = £13m.

confused

Operation Grange must have some very important leads to follow for the Home Office grant to go from £300k to £13m overnight.

So much for press and media ethics.

Madeleine McCann's parents saved nearly £1m to continue search if police call off probe

Kate and Gerry McCann have almost £1million in a fund to continue the search for missing daughter Madeleine, should the police stop their probe into her disappearance

Madeleine McCann's parents have saved nearly £1million in a fund to help find their daughter in case police call off their probe.

Kate and Gerry McCann have £970,767 - an increase of nearly £40,000 in the past financial year - according to latest accounts filed with Companies House.

The vast sum is made up of donations from celebrities and the public, plus royalties from Kate's best-selling book about the case.

The Metropolitan Police has applied to Home Office for more cash to keep its Operation Grange probe into Madeleine's 2007 disappearance running.

But the 12-year investigation has already received £13million of taxpayers' cash without cracking the case.

If the Home Office rejects the police bid for further funds the McCanns are likely to recruit their own private investigators to continue the search.

Wednesday (May 3) is the 16th anniversary of then-three-year-old Madeleine's disappearance from her parents' rented holiday apartment in the Praia da Luz, Portugal.

Kate and Gerry, both 54, are expected to join well-wishers for an outdoor prayer gathering in their home village of Rothley, Leics.

Newly-released figures show that the not-for-profit Madeleine’s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned company boasts £970, 767 in its coffers.

A Home Office spokesman said: "We have received an application from the Metropolitan Police Service for the funding of Operation Grange for the 2023/24 financial year.

"It will be considered, as usual, in line with our Special Grant process which is approved on an annual basis."

Jailed paedophile Christian Brueckner, 45, was sensationally named as Madeleine's alleged kidnapper by German police in June 2020.

Prosecutors said they were convinced the youngster - who would now be 19 - was dead and Brueckner responsible.

But he vehemently denies any involvement, has never been charged and a probe by Brit TV investigator Mark Williams-Thomas, who exposed Jimmy Savile as a paedophile, discovered Brueckner has an alibi.

That 'fund' should have been spent by now, if this were a genuine case of looking for their daughter.

Weak!

This is repeated every year since Operation Grange hit the scene - no wait a minute, long before that when no one was proactively 'searching' [sic] Gerald McCann!

Year by year the claim loses another climatic thrust, it weakens and is diluted by lack of evidence which takes it back to the year 2008, when the case was archived by the Portuguese judiciary.

Don't try to pull the wool over the eyes of the more discerning Lawton, the McCanns never searched for their own beloved daughter - by their own admission.

Why would they start now .... because they already know it's pointless per chance?

I don’t believe the police are getting more money and haven’t been for a long time,I believe it’s all a smokescreen.I think it’s obvious the
McCanns have someone under their thumb,my opinion anyway.

Well, certainly there's a lot of media hype surrounding the continued funding of Operation Grange - how much of the information comes from an official source is a matter of conjecture.

I think the answer is covertly covered in the Home Office's wording a few years back..

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I don't profess to know exactly how Home Office police funding is administered, apart from the vague information they publish. Whatever, it doesn't look like an annual fixed sum is allocated to Operation Grange, more a case of it's there if needed - if you get my drift.

Madeleine McCann: Met reduces officers on case from 29 to four

Wed 28 Oct 2015 15.58 GMT

Police are to scale back the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, with the number of officers on the team cut from 29 to four.

The Metropolitan police said Operation Grange would now only focus on a “small number of focused lines of inquiry that have allowed them to reduce the size of the Home Office funded team”.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The grant is probably funding the shredder, the tea trolley, Bert at the door and Officer Dible at the desk and a fresh supply of brooms as and when required.

They certainly ain't 'searching' nor 'probing' the case of Madeleine McCann's disappearance. The Portuguese police did that back in 2007/2008!

And then something went very wrong ....

It hadn't occurred to me that this renewed funding may not exist; it's quite possible that the McCann's are still being protected. Interesting.
