PeterMac's Ebook 'chapter discussing possible drugging of the three children has this passage:

• Two children aged 2 years were left comatose for 10 hours - they slept thorugh screaming, talking, lights switched on, furniture moving, being taken into other room and beds...
* When they woke no after effects were recorded. [2.7]

Then he writes:

So far as can be ascertained - there is NO substance or technique known to medical science which can do this.

That is wrong! The Original CALPOL NIGHT mixture was a strong sedative:

ORIGINAL CALPOL NIGHT and similar MEDISED contained sedatives and caused drowsiness!

CALPOL NIGHT oral solution contains two active ingredients, paracetamol and diphenhydramine hydrochloride.

Paracetamol is a simple painkilling medicine used to relieve mild to moderate pain and fever. Despite its widespread use for over 100 years, we still don't fully understand how paracetamol works to relieve pain and reduce fever. However, it is now thought that it works by reducing the production of prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord.

Diphenhydramine is a type of medicine called a sedating antihistamine. It enters the brain in sufficient quantities to cause drowsiness.

CALPOL NIGHT was discontinued in 2009 due to worries about addiction.

Kate's father, the grandfather of the minor, Brian Healy, admits to the press that Kate could have administered some medication to the little girl, Calpol, to help the child (children'') to sleep, contrary to what his daughter Kate had stated.

Family fury at new claims

POLICE found a syringe in the holiday apartment where Madeleine McCann vanished, it was claimed last night.

Detectives are probing whether it was used to administer sedatives to the four-year-old and her twin siblings Sean and Amelie, according to a Portuguese newspaper.

Last night Madeleine's heart surgeon dad Gerry and GP mum Kate, both 39, were unavailable for comment on the alleged discovery.

But their spokesman Justine McGuinness said: "This is yet another piece of ridiculous speculation without any base in fact.

"Kate and Gerry are responsible and loving parents.

"They have said in the past they have never used sedatives on their children." Police declined to comment on the paper's claims.

Though they have stated the McCanns are not suspects, detectives are baffled that their twins never stirred the night Madeleine vanished from the apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.

They had hoped the two-year-olds, who were asleep in cots either side of their sister's bed, could be key witnesses.

But the pair were carried still sleeping from the apartment by police officers.

The mystery has fuelled speculation in the Portuguese media that Madeleine and the twins were given drugs to help them sleep while their parents went out.

The McCanns were dining in a tapas bar 40 yards away when their daughter vanished on May 3.

Last night a friend of the couple said the barrage of allegations by the Portuguese media had prompted the McCanns to decide to return to Britain within a fortnight. The pal said: "They've had enough." Gerry yesterday begged his daughter's abductor to hand her back.

He said the kidnapper may have taken her in an "act of madness" which they might not understand themselves.

On his daily internet blog he said "like everyone else" he and Kate were awaiting the results of DNA tests on the blood found in their apartment.

Around 2005 there were several different versions on administering Calpol-
One set had a Bottle where the Cap gave drops of the liquid formula.
The other had a Syringe (without a needle) to measure the Dose.

The Calpol thing always bothered me. The antihistamine in Calpol Night was sufficient to give a child a good sleep but it wouldn't keep them "out" if disturbed in the middle of the night. It is also difficult to overdose on antihistamines but also the dose is linked to the paracetamol dose to prevent overdose.

So much was made of Calpol (less so Calpol Night I agree) by the media I felt it was a bit of a red herring. KM was an anaesthetist and that was of far more interest. I remember people regularly using Phenergan Elixir exactly to make their kids sleep. The cover up in the apartment re photos and other items hinted at a real staging.

The need to keep the Twins KO whilst the Adults told the Police their cover Story would be a better explanation for any form of Sedation.

It seems Calpol Night didn't yet exist, the antihistamine in Calpol, like in Phenergan (very much used in the fifties) is not what one would call a sedative. It's calming, like a painkiller. The twins slept like logs, Calpol could never achieve that.

Dr’s who are anaesthetists and others with an interest or qualified in pharmacology, sports science would have the knowledge and know how to mix substances to create differing effects if they so wanted to!

Peter, you could use a digital camera and look at the view screen after which people did for selfies,. I know, wrong thread but just noting possibilities.

Apologies. I wasn't aware talking about it being highly unlikely it would have been Calpol/Calpol Night or anything over the counter used was forbidden.

Am I to gather the site gate keeps discussion? I'm always happy to be corrected politely but referring to facts getting in the way of posters "fantasies" is a little presumptuous and incredibly pompous.

All I can do is provide the facts, the sunshine records, the weather charts, the Tapas' own statements, the contemporaneous diary kept by a retired RAF Navigator, the photos of the sea and wind conditions for the windsurfing competition, the photos from Flickr, and the EUMESAT images

If you choose to ignore them I can do no more.

But to argue they are all wrong means you should produce equivalent evidence of your own which we can analyse

I'm not saying the weather charts for that day are wrong, I'm going off the video evidence in the Paraiso bar.
The people in there were not dressed for cold weather, one had I assume been swimming because she had a towel wrapped around her head and her shoulders were uncovered.
People were in shorts and tee shirts and the sun was out because you can see the shadows.
I wouldn't dare contradict PeterMac, all I'm saying is at the time of the video it was sunny and I guess quite warm.
We know that the date had been changed on the McCann camera and I'm not saying the photo of Madeleine was taken when they say it was, I am just saying, in my opinion, at some point on 3rd May 2007, it was sunny and warm.

Yes the majority of diners are wearing summer attire, I’d imagine the majority would be holiday makers like myself who think Algarve = Sunshine and probably packed their case accordingly, I suppose it comes down to what we are used to at home, in the sense that if you live in a colder climate like myself the weather in the Algarve in May would be a lot warmer in comparison, during the day if cloudy it can still feel pretty warm in the day time although pretty chilly at night
