And what a non-event..
Madeleine McCann's parents 'still believe in miracles' as 18th birthday approaches
Madeleine McCann would turn 18 on May 12 and the 14th anniversary of her disappearance, aged three is on May 3 - her parents Late and Gerry issued a hopeful message on their Facebook page
Madeleine McCann’s parents still think they will one day be reunited with their daughter, saying: “We still believe in miracles.’’
Kate and Gerry, both 53, have not given up hope as they approach the 14th anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance, aged three, in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007.
In a post on the Official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page, they said: “Never stop believing in hope because miracles happen ever day.
"Want to send a heartfelt thank you to all who continue to be by our side.”
Hundreds responded with prayer and love heart emojis.
Although German police insist they have evidence Madeleine is dead the couple believe she could still be alive.
She would turn 18 on May 12.
Christian Brueckner, 44, a convicted paedophile now in jail for raping a woman of 72 in Praia da Luz, was identified as a suspect in the Madeleine case by German police last June.
But a four-strong Met Police team say they have not seen any evidence Madeleine is dead and continue to treat it as a missing person inquiry.
The McCanns, from Rothley, Leics, share the British force’s optimism.
In their new message, the McCanns said of the investigation: “Nothing much to report.”

Are these the " heartbroken parents " you refer to Jerry Lawton ?
Of course they've had 14 years to practice their " heartbroken " faces this was obviously just a rehearsal !
They won't be happy if they have to take second place in MSM to the " virus " .
Don't think I can stand another two weeks of this , anyone fancy sitting in a tent outside a pub ?

Re: The McCanns 14th anniversary nonsense begins
On the 9th anniversary, a tour of Luz turned up CMTV, but that's all. CMTV is a major media network in Portugal.
The 10th anniversary was different. There was a BBC TV special, and a Sky TV special.
I think it's just round numbers. So I expect the 14th anniversary to be quiet. But I could be wrong.
So if anyone gets knowledge of a 14th anniversary TV special, kindly give a heads-up in advance in this thread. Many thanks.

I agree. I think this is as good/bad as it's going to get.
They've long since played out their theatrics, even the media have tired of it. Expect more of the same from a few die-hards over the next couple of weeks, the staunch tabloid adherents, but I think this is truly the final curtain - the end of the show.
It ends as is started - all about Gerry and Kate McCann without a single thought nor action for the true casualty - Madeleine McCann! Fourteen wasted years and still no justice.
Thank goodness for CMOMM and other genuine like minded folk who really care!

Re: The McCanns 14th anniversary nonsense begins
Quite so!
Realistically, you can't stick yourself in the limelight and expect people not to take notice - why else would you do it if not to attract attention.
Alas, when the gruesome twosome first embarked on their quest to fool the world, they clearly had no idea the police files would be made public and expose them for what they are!
From day one I didn't trust the story, something was very wrong with the media stories and the public appearances but millions were taken in - decent people who care about humanity. The years I believe have eroded that belief and people have tired of the prolonged saga, that simple fact is evidenced by the dwindling interest and fading commentary. Who can blame them, we've all got lives to live and our own trials and tribulations to cope with daily.
Not to say CMOMM will throw in the towel after all these years . The case will never go away until justice in the name of Madeleine McCann comes to fruition. If never, which is most likely, then we will never go away!
It's nothing akin to trolling, another grossly over and misused word. It's about standing up for the rights of a sweet little three year old child who has been so badly let down by those who should really care - her family and the authorities across the board.
I strongly advise they invest in a stock-pile of good quality flea collars - they're going to need them!
Remembering all those we have lost on the way ....

Madeleine McCann's parents issue statement as her 18th birthday approaches
The parents, from the East Midlands, have never given up hope of finding their daughter alive

The parents of missing Madeleine McCann have confirmed they "believe in hope" and "miracles" as we approach her 18th birthday.
The parents, from the East Midlands, have never given up hope of finding their daughter alive.
Madeleine vanished in May 2007, from a holiday apartment in the tourist hotspot of Praia da Luz, in the Algarve, in Portugal.
The missing Brit turns 18 next month.
In a post on the Official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page, her mum and dad said: “Never stop believing in hope because miracles happen every day.
"Want to send a heartfelt thank you to all who continue to be by our side.”
Madeleine McCann has been missing since May 2007. She disappeared during a family holiday in Portugal as her parents Kate and Gerry were eating in a near-by restaurant. An international appeal for help finding Maddie has brought numerous reported sightings, none of them confirmed.
Her parents Kate and Gerry hail from Rothley, in Leics.
Madeleine would turn 18 on May 12 and the 14th anniversary of her disappearance, aged three is on May 3 .
Although German police insist they have evidence Madeleine is dead the couple believe she could still be alive.
In June 2020, the public prosecutor of the German city of Braunschweig ordered an inquiry regarding a possible involvement of a 43-year-old man, believed to have been living in a borrowed VW camper van in the Algarve at the time of McCann's disappearance.
The suspect's car, a Jaguar XJR6, was registered to a new owner the day after McCann disappeared.
The prosecutor's office started proceedings on suspicion of McCann's murder. Hans Christian Wolters, from the public prosecutor's office, stated that they are operating under the presumption that McCann is dead, due to the suspect's criminal record.

And I've got news for you Mr Regional Content Editor, this is simple fact - not fiction.
Miracles do not happen every day, utter nonsense.
There is no such thing as a miracle, for a miracle to happen would in itself be a miracle.

Madeleine McCann fund set up by parents has £750k for private search if police end hunt
EXCLUSIVE Parents Kate and Gerry McCann set up a fund 12 days after their daughter's disappearance on May 3, 2007, in the resort of Praia da Luz, in the Algarve, Portugal
ByJerry Lawton
20:52, 25 APR 2021Updated21:00, 25 APR 2021
A fund set up by Madeleine McCann's parents has more than £750,000 in it which could fund a private search if police stop looking for her.
Doctors Kate and Gerry were reportedly told by the Metropolitan Police that they are continuing to treat Madeleine as a missing person.
Brit detectives are said to have told the couple that they think it is "highly unlikely drifter Christian Brueckner – who German investigators have alleged killed Madeleine – will be charged over her disappearance 14 years ago as there is no evidence" linking him to it.
The McCanns are holding a cash reserve in case the police inquiry comes to nothing.
[Classy!]
Newly released accounts for Madeleine's Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Ltd – which was set up 12 days after she vanished to handle well-wishers' donations – has a balance of £773,629.
According to financial documents, the cash will be used to secure the safe return to her family of Madeleine McCann, "ensure her abduction is thoroughly investigated" and the culprits are identified and brought to justice.
Once that objective has been fulfilled any remaining money will be donated to help crack similar cases.
The McCanns, from Rothley, Leicestershire, were unavailable for comment on Sunday night.
But a pal said: "Kate and Gerry know the police investigation cannot go on forever. But they will never give up looking for Madeleine.
"When it is shelved, and if there is no result, Kate and Gerry will use money in the fund to continue the hunt.
"That is what it is there for. They paid for their own team of private investigators initially and when the official inquiry ends they will do so again although in the past it has proven to be extremely costly."
The fund was launched after then-three-year-old Madeleine vanished from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3 2007 while her parents dined with pals in a nearby tapas bar.
It is made up of donations from celebrities and well-wishers, royalties from a best-selling book Kate penned about the case in 2011, and the sale of merchandise designed to keep the public searching.
The book brought in £6,543 in the 12 months to last March, according to the accounts. The McCanns were reimbursed with £4,229 from the fund to cover legal costs for their "ongoing libel action in Portugal" against ex-police chief Goncalo Amaral who wrote a book accusing them of covering up Madeleine's death.
Both Kate and Gerry, who vehemently deny his allegations, continue to hope they will one day be reunited with their daughter.
Last week they posted a message on the Official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page urging supporters: "Never stop believing in hope because miracles happen every day.''
Drifter Brueckner, 44, was identified as a suspect in the Brit youngster's disappearance last June.
He is serving a seven-year jail sentence for raping a 72-year-old woman in the same Algarve resort.
German police said a call from his mobile was transmitted by a phone mast near the apartment where Madeleine's family was staying around an hour before she disappeared.
But Brueckner's lawyer has said his client had nothing to do with her disappearance and police should "expect to order holy water as a long drink in hell" before he will cooperate with their investigation.
Next week the McCanns face the grim 14th anniversary of their daughter's disappearance.
She would turn 18 on May 12.
A Home Office spokesman said they were giving "careful consideration" to a request for extra funding - understood to be £300,000 - from the Met to continue the UK police investigation which has so far cost £12.5 million.

Re: The McCanns 14th anniversary nonsense begins
Well, if the Daily Star reports it must be true yeh?
Tabloid reportage is so slapdash, they don't give a kipper's do da whether the information reported is accurate or not, just as long as it's sensational - well it is to some folk. The sort who believe in miracles and everything they read in the gutter press.
This notional figure hovering around £750,000 has been floating about for years, if memory serves me well, about the time Sloperation Grange Hill took the reins.
The McCanns have not raised this money. It is a portion of the donations made by good hearted folk, tucked away for a rainy day and the Fund - originally named 'The Fight Fund' (food for thought) since articulated, has always claimed to be a financial resource to blah blah blah..
If the world's finest, the Metropolitan Police, can't 'solve' the case having spent well in excess of £12m smackeroonies, plus the £millions of hidden costs, what hope do the McCanns have of solving the case themselves on £750,000? Short of a trip down the local cop shop for a kiss and tell briefing but that doesn't cost anything but shoe leather.
Then again, I suppose they could hand over half a £million to abogus private detective agency to do the ground work for them, a la Bondesque! That is after all where most of the donations were apportioned, by all accounts ....

Madeleine McCann parents raise over £750,000 to continue search if Scotland Yard ends probe
They are determined to carry on their search...
Laura Hannam - 26 Apr 2021, 14:31
In the latest development to the search for Madeleine McCann, its been revealed that her parents have raised £773,629.
The funds are stored in Madeleine‘s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Ltd which is run by Gerry and Kate McCann.
Financial documents show that the fund is in case of the event that Scotland Yard end their probe to find the missing girl.
The Daily Star reports that the funds will also be used to ensure that culprits are served justice.
And any remaining money will be used to fund additional missing children cases.
A source told the paper: “Kate and Gerry know the police investigation cannot go on forever. But they will never give up looking for Madeleine.
“When it is shelved, and if there is no result, Kate and Gerry will use money in the fund to continue the hunt.”
Read more: German prosecutor believes ‘Madeleine McCann could still be alive’
As of now, Met Police are still treating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance as a missing person case.
What happened to Madeleine McCann?
Madeleine went missing on the evening of May 3, 2007, Praia da Luz, Portugal.
She was just three-years-old and has never been found.
She disappeared from her bed that evening, while her brother and sister slept.
Her parents, doctors Kate and Gerry were at a local restaurant with their friends at the time of the disappearance.
Initially the Portuguese police believed Madeline had accidentally died and her parents had covered it up.
However, her parents used private investigators to try and find their missing daughter.
Later in 2011 Scotland Yard opened their own inquiry – Operation Grange.
Has anyone been charged in connection to Madeline McCann?
As of April 2021, no one has been formerly charged in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
However, convicted paedophile Christian B was named by German police in 2020 as the person responsible for Madeline’s abduction and murder.
But there has yet to be a formal charge regarding this.
His lawyer, Friedrich Fulscher, said on a Discovery Plus documentary that he doesn’t believe his client Christian B will ever be charged for the crimes.
Speaking on Prime Suspect: The Madeleine McCann Case he said: “My client hasn’t been charged with anything.
”He is under investigation and under suspicion. I have to assume that they do not have any concrete evidence. I think that’s quite typical for us Germans.
“We think we are something special, at least in Europe, and think we can do things better than other nations. We will see if that is the case but I don’t think so.”
How old would Madeleine McCann be today?
As of April 2021, Madeleine McCann would be 17.
She would be 18 as of May 12 this year.
On the Official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page, an inspirational quote was recently shared.
It read: “Never stop believing in miracles because miracles happen every day.”
This was followed up with some downcast news – no further developments in the case to report.
The caption read: “Nothing much to report.Want to send a heartfelt thank you to all who continue to be by our side.
“We still Believe in Miracles.”

Madeleine McCann’s parents have more than £750,000 in a fund to pay for a private search if the police hunt ever ends.
The latest accounts for Madeleine's Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Ltd show a balance of £773,629 for the year ending 31 March 2020.
According to the publicly-available documents, the money will be used to “secure the safe return to her family” of Madeleine McCann and to ensure her “abduction is thoroughly investigated” and her alleged abductors “are identified and brought to justice”.
Madeleine was three years old when she went missing from her family’s holiday apartment in the Praia da Luz resort on the Algarve, in Portugal, in May 2007.
Doctors Kate and Gerry set up the fund 12 days after their daughter vanished as donations from well-wishers flooded in.
According to the accounts, a book written by Ms McCann about her daughter’s disappearance, which was published in 2011, brought in £6,543 in the year to last March.
The documents also show the McCanns were reimbursed £4,229 from the fund to cover legal costs for an ongoing libel case in Portugal against former police chief Goncalo Amaral.
Mr Amaral wrote a book in 2008 that alleged their three-year-old daughter had died in their holiday flat and that they had faked her kidnapping to cover up the tragedy – allegations they have always strongly denied.

In June last year, German police identified a convicted paedophile as a suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance.
Investigators said the man, later named as Christian Brueckner in reports, lived in Portugal between 1995 and 2007, apart from brief spells in Germany.
Christian Wolters, of the Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office, said German investigators believed Madeleine was dead.
But London’s Metropolitan Police, which opened Operation Grange in 2013 after the Portuguese police probe into the missing youngster failed to make any progress, reportedly told the McCanns they were continuing to treat their daughter as a missing person.
According to the Daily Star, a spokesman for the Home Office said “careful consideration” was being given to a request for more funding - believed to be about £300,000 - to continue the UK police investigation, which has reportedly cost more than £12.5m to date.

For years I thought notions that the McCanns killed Madelaine (accidentally or otherwise) couldn't possibly be true and dismissed them out of hand. After all, what sort of parent would do such a thing? Almost certainly not ones which present the way that Kate and Gerry do. But after watching one expert who dared disputing the establishment narrative I ended up consuming everything I possibly could on the subject, perhaps watching 20 hours of expert testimony, and for me the real mystery now is not where is Maddy? Or who killed/abducted her? But why the establishment has gone to such lengths to protect the McCanns who the Portuguese police correctly identified as the prime suspects? What connections tho power, what secrets of more powerful people did they have, for the British mainstream media, the security services, and senior politicians, to go to such lengths to present them as being innocent, when all the evidence points in the other direction?
The case absolutely stinks. There will never be justice for the poor little girl. Sadly, there will be no justice for the parents either. They will be greatly relieved.

I can see no reason why the police have spent so much money on this investigation over all these years, when many other children have gone missing and their cases were left open indefinitely when the police drew a blank. Maybe the police enjoy their little breaks in Portugal.

Madeleine McCann’s parents have £750,000 for private search if police end hunt

The family of missing Madeleine McCann could fund a private £750,000 search for their daughter if the police hunt for her ends. The search for Madeleine, who vanished almost 14 years ago, has so far cost £12.5 million and a decision is currently being made on whether it will be funded further. But sources say parents Kate and Gerry are prepared to continue looking for their daughter if the official police investigation ends. A friend of the family told The Daily Star: ‘Kate and Gerry know the police investigation cannot go on forever. But they will never give up looking for Madeleine.
‘When it is shelved, and if there is no result, Kate and Gerry will use money in the fund to continue the hunt. ‘That is what it is there for. They paid for their own team of private investigators initially and when the official inquiry ends they will do so again although in the past it has proven to be extremely costly.’ Accounts for the year ending 2020 show a company called ‘Madeleine’s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Ltd’ has a balance of £773,629. It was set up in 2007 after the three-year-old disappeared in Praia da Luz, Portugal, to handle donations from well-wishers.
It comes after the couple have been warned it is ‘highly unlikely’ Christian Brueckner – who German investigators have earmarked as a suspect – is going to be charged due to a lack of evidence. And despite the Metropolitan Police still treating Madeleine as a missing person, the hunt for her may be ended if there are no more fresh leads. A Home Office spokesperson said they were giving ‘careful consideration’ to a request for extra funding for the police investigation. The McCanns are said to be reserving their fund in case they need to pay privately for the search for her to continue. The Find Madeleine website describes the fund as ‘a not-for-profit company which has been established to find Madeleine McCann, support her family and bring her abductors to justice’.
If she is found, any remaining money will be donated to help with similar cases. The couple, from Rothley in Leicestershire, have not yet publicly commented on the fund. But they posted on the Official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page last week that they had not given up, saying: ‘Never stop believing in hope because miracles happen every day.’ Brueckner, from Germany, is currently serving a seven-year jail sentence for raping a 72-year-old woman in the same resort in the Algarve, and is also a convicted paedophile. His lawyer has insisted Brueckner had nothing to do with Madeleine’s disappearance and police should ‘expect to order holy water as a long drink in hell’ before he will cooperate with their investigation.

Of that £750,000 fund, £542,000 is tied up in fixed asset investments. Let's see what happens there.
I notice the gutter press don't mention this investment.
IMO the Brueckner tale had a part to play in the run up to McCanns' appeal in Portugal.

Madeleine McCann's parents to mark sad milestone ahead of daughter's 18th birthday
EXCLUSIVE: Maddie McCann went missing a few days before her fourth birthday and her 18th is on May 12 - making this year's anniversary of her disappearance particularly poignant for Kate and Gerry McCann

Madeleine McCann’s parents will mark the 14th anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance with a “low-key” Bank Holiday ceremony.
Kate and Gerry McCann will attend a local church this weekend to pray for Madeleine, who disappeared in Portugal on May 3, 2007.
This year’s anniversary is particularly poignant because it comes just a week before Madeleine’s 18th birthday.
Prosecutors want to quiz Christian Brueckner over her disappearance and claim to have evidence she is dead.
But Kate and Gerry, 53, of Rothley, Leics, refuse to give up hope that Madeleine is still alive and will one day be found.
A family friend said: “Every anniversary is tough because it brings back all the memories of the night she was taken.
“But this year is different because Madeleine would be reaching adulthood.
“It’s a big milestone in every child’s life. For Kate and Gerry to not to be with her on such a momentous occasion is heartbreaking.”
The couple will spend Bank Holiday Monday - the day of the anniversary - with their teenage twins Sean and Amelie.
Scotland Yard’s hunt for Madeleine’s abductor continues, with four detectives still working on Operation Grange.
A top-level summit between German, British and Portuguese detectives is due to take place in Lisbon this summer.
The Mirror revealed in January that cops are launching a push to find what they have referred to as the “missing piece of the jigsaw” that they say could snare Brueckner.
German and Portuguese investigators are to carry out new interviews of key witnesses in the Algarve who knew him.
Brueckner, 44, was named as the prime suspect for Madeleine’s disappearance by German prosecutors last June.
He is currently serving a seven-year term in a prison in Hanover for raping a pensioner in Praia da Luz in 2005.
His lawyer Friedrich Fulscher insists the German has nothing to do with the youngster’s disappearance.

German and Portuguese investigators are to carry out new interviews of key witnesses in the Algarve who knew him.
Brueckner, 44, was named as the prime suspect for Madeleine’s disappearance by German prosecutors last June.
They say they believe he abducted and killed the three-year-old.
His lawyer Friedrich Fulscher insists the German has nothing to do with the youngster’s disappearance.

Kate and Gerry McCann will mark 14 years since their daughter disappeared this Bank Holiday weekend with a "low-key" ceremony.
Madeleine McCann disappeared in Portugal on May 3, 2007 and her parents will pray for her this weekend at a local church - a poignant moment just one week before her 18th birthday.
The heartbroken parents refuse to give up hope of finding their daughter alive despite prosecutors claiming to have evidence she is dead, reports the mirror.
Detectives also want to quiz convicted rapist Christian Brueckner over her disappearance.
