Anniversary

Today marks the 16th anniversary of Madeleine’s abduction.
Still missing…….still very much missed.

It is hard to find the words to convey how we feel.
The poem below, by Clare Pollard, resonates strongly with us:

The Contradiction

The absence contradicts itself:
the missing conjures what we miss.
You are not here, I’m not myself,
but still I talk to you like this.
You’re in the crowd, the news, the glimpse -
I make you there when you’re not there.
I trace your steps, I map your face,
I say your name, see you in air.

You’re all I know and so unknown.
I cannot hold you, yet I do:
please let me hold you in my head
and where you are now, hold me too.
How can you be so near and far?
You are not here. But here you are.

The police investigation continues, and we await a breakthrough.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear - never mind..

I am writing this message to the media in general. I expect it may not appear in print or on-line but hope that it will spark a conscience in some.

As we do every year, we gathered in our village yesterday evening to mark the anniversary of our daughter Madeleine’s abduction. It was a special event and lovely to sense the hope and warmth of those who were there.

I was dismayed, however, that this sadly provided an opportunity for a local journalist to exploit the presence of our younger daughter who does not wish to be photographed or interviewed and was made to feel uncomfortable, especially at such a special moment of hope for Madeleine.

Our son and daughter turned eighteen this year - but I truly hope this will not make them targets for those journalists looking to make financial gain.

Please can I appeal to you that you respect our children’s privacy and let them live their lives.

Too late I fear, the gate was open the horse has bolted.

And every year your little local gathering in Roafley is widely covered by the press - in particular your friend and neighbour Tracy 'Olive Oyl' Kandohla

Sorry madam, you invited the press, media and public into your lives, you can't complain when they take you on board.

As they say, no publicity is good publicity and no publicity is bad publicity.

Does she see the opportunity to sue newspapers? The girl was out in public; this was not a long lens trained on a bathroom window situation.

As Amelie is now over 18, and no longer a 'Child' she will have to Sue someone herself as a Person in her own Right.

Any Reporting or Photographing Restrictions should have been announced before the Event.

As it took place in a Public space, no Laws have been broken as far as I can see.

Where was Sean?

Probably being wise and avoiding the publicity.

These two pictures show a man carrying a child away from the family's apartment. This sighting was seen by a witness at 21:15 on the evening of Thursday, May 3rd, 2007.

Based on more recent information, the Metropolitan Police now believe this man may represent a guest at the Ocean Club who was carrying his daughter back to their apartment.

The picture shows a man that was seen several times by different witnesses during the days leading up to Madeleine's abduction on the 3rd of May. He was described as ugly with pock-marked skin and was said to be watching the family's apartment intently.

If either of these men appear familiar to you in some way, please contact our investigation team as soon as possible.

This is an e-fit picture of a woman aged 30-35 years,approx. 5ft 2" tall, who was behaving suspiciously in the area of the Port Olimpic Marina in Barcelona in the early hours of May 7th 2007. She is a person of interest to the inquiry - as yet, unidentified.

Investigation:

Do you have any information that could help our search for Madeleine? Did you see or hear something around the time of Madeleine's disappearance (3rd May 2007) that aroused your suspicions or seemed out of place? Did anyone tell you something which may be relevant to Madeleine's disappearance? Did somebody you know of suddenly leave the area soon after Madeleine's disappearance?

1) Report to the local police IMMEDIATELY !!

2) Is there CCTV at the location? Ask for it to be retained.

3) Did the individuals purchase anything (electronic payment) - thereby leaving a 'footprint'?

4) Did they leave in a vehicle? Try to take registration details.

5) If possible, discreetly take video or photo evidence to be examined by the police.
