Body dogs Jack and Charlie not to be sniffed at
June 20, 2014
When the Force’s new ‘body’ dogs were called upon to assist in the Wycherleys murder case, you would be forgiven for thinking their lack of experience and the time passed may not bring results.
But three-year-old spaniels Jack and Charlie indicated at the burial site in the back garden of Blenheim Close, Forest Town, almost immediately.
PC Leigh Whitehead is Cocker Jack’s handler and PC Gav Berry takes Springer Charlie’s lead.
PC Whitehead said: “Our dogs are chosen for their drive and work ethic. Jack and Charlie have this in abundance.
"I’m not surprised by their performance that day. They did exactly what they are trained to do.
"The circumstances posed a significant challenge for them but I’m proud to say it’s a challenge they lived up to and surpassed.
He trained the canine cops over an eight-week period before they were licensed by PC Terry Arnett from the West Midlands Police in August 2013.
Since September, Jack and Charlie have been deployed 22 times.

Good work doggies. Now we have another little job that needs verification.

I can think of a couple of people who won't be happy about this story.
Well done to jack and Charlie and their handlers.

Re: "Unreliable" dogs do it AGAIN! Double murder couple found guilty.
Last night's Holby City featured a sniffer dog able to diagnose c dificille in humans three days in advance of lab tests - leaving the staff with the thorny decision of whether or not to isolate a patient on the advice of a dog.... In fact, going by this I think they used the actual dog.
The same program also features a pair of doctors (one of them a simmering Scottish nutter) trying to conceive by IVF, only for the Mrs to become pregnant as a result of a one night stand with a colleague. That bit's completely fictional of course.

You'd think, as people of science, that Drs Kate and Gerry McCann would be better informed than most people on the effectiveness of well-trained sniffer dogs.

Which is why they have no choice but to try to denigrate their effectiveness, even though in Kate;s Autobiography, Exhibit KH 1 she got is spectacularly Wrong.
What is noticeable is how whenever the subject of the dogs is raised this site is immediately trolled and the thread is disrupted by people who suddenly appear, as if from nowhere,
and Twitter suffers in the same way.
The whole world knows knows that dogs are reliable.
They may miss things, but they never (OK almost never !) give a false positive.
The dogs alerting on all those places associated with the Mccanns AND TO NO OTHER PLACES, is a killer blow, and they know it.
They also know that the police of two nations use dogs in very much the same way
And they know that round the world there are many people serving long terms of imprisonment purely because a dog said a body had been in a particular place.

They most certainly became better informed than most people after Eddie and Keela were brought into the case, but I suspect they didn't have a clue about the work of EVRD dogs prior to July 2007,.
I sometimes entertain myself by compiling a list of 'experts' who will be called by the defence to refute the prosecution's case but when it comes to a professional witness who is capable of refuting the evidence of Mr Grimes' canines, I'm stumped.

Dogs don't make mistakes. They have no 'wider agenda'. They just know what they have to do, and do it. No second-guessing; no nonsense, just find and alert. Just as they did in a certain apartment at a certain seaside resort seven years ago. But (touch my ear and smirk) dogs are 'notoriously unreliable', aren't they?

Charlie Bothuell found after being missing 11 days
A 12-year-old missing for 11 days was found by police in his own basement, and his father was told of the discovery live on television.
Charlie Bothuell was feared dead after disappearing in Detroit on 14 June.
On Wednesday, officers found the boy behind a barricade of boxes in his family's basement.
His father, Charles Bothuell IV, was appealing to HLN viewers for help when presenter Nancy Grace said Charlie was found alive and well.
The father appeared to be stunned and said "What?"
He told the presenter his family, Detroit police and FBI had searched the basement several times.
"God, they brought dogs, everything... Everybody has searched," Charles Bothuell IV said. "Oh god, my son."
"I've never seen anything quite like this," Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters. "But the outcome - I couldn't be happier."
Charlie was removed from the home and was given medical attention at a nearby hospital.
He was medically cleared and released on Thursday, with Police Sgt Mike Woody telling US media the boy was "doing fine".
Police also confirmed to local media they had searched the family's basement with a cadaver dog, adding investigators were not sure Charlie had been in the basement for the full 11 days.
Mr Craig told the Detroit News Charlie "won't be put back into the home until we finish our investigation".

11 days in a basement hidden behind 'a barricade of boxes'? If that was true the EVRD dogs would have alerted to the body, jeanm.
Another case where the full story will only be revealed in the fullness of time, but it could be that this 12 year old may have had reason to stay out of the reach of his papa for a while.

I'm thinking the cadaver dogs didn't alert because they are notoriously unreliable, nothing whatsoever to do with the lad being alive, and there being no cadaver for them to find. Their only unreliability is in the fact that they can't be relied upon to support Our Gerald and his abduction hypothesis.
Looking forward to see the McSpin on that one.

Re: "Unreliable" dogs do it AGAIN! Double murder couple found guilty.
Someone posted a link to a news interview about this on facebook yesterday. The father was being intervied live , when the police told him they had found his son alive. Odd story, maybe the boy had ran away and the snuck back home but 11 days is a long time for a child of that age to fend for himself, so it's possible others were involved and he may have been harmed. As least he's still alive.

Before the McSpinners get to work:
CADAVER dogs ONLY 'alert' to 'cadavers scent' (dead bodies)
Nothing 'surprising' there, that's what they are trained to do.
But a cadaver dog 'alerted' to a scent in apartment 5A. McCann's holiday apartment.
Shouldn't the McCanns be screaming from the rooftops 'If it wasn't Madeleine's scent, because there's no evidence she has come to harm, then who the fcuk's cavader scent was it, that UK EVRD dog 'alerted' to, in our holiday apartment?"

Ah!
Just noticed 'our Nance' was the one to tell the father 'live' on air!
HMMMMMM.
So that would be the same sychophantic McCann 'supporter' who knew nothing about the Madeleine case the last time we saw her.
Who, no doubt, will be spinning this latest 'coup' as 'see, missing people can be 'found' live on my TV show' "It's a miracle"
Just another 'case' of a 'missing person' being found, just in time for libel case!
Good ol' Nance!
Cheque's in the post!

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Take the case of Polly Klaas, who was abducted from her home in 1993 and was found dead months later. Her father, Marc, said he and other family members were questioned by police and cleared within a week of Polly`s disappearance.
MARC KLAAS, KLAAS KIDS FOUNDATION: We took polygraph exams. We answered all their questions until they were satisfied that we had nothing to do with it, and then they moved on.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Come on K&G, make my day, and take those polygraph tests!
Just like Carl Probyn, the step father of your ALWAYS quoted 'missing' Jaycee Duggard, did!
HE took and passed FOUR (4) lie detector tests, related to Jaycee's 'disappearance'!
So G&K take the 'polygraph/lie detector tests' and prove us all wrong!

Or they could try a different tac of. The bent coppers made the dogs alert by given them a command.
Did Kate allude to this in her novel?

Re: "Unreliable" dogs do it AGAIN! Double murder couple found guilty.
She relaxed a little and referred to it as not being an exact science. Like the rest of 'KH1', her recollection of the dog video is very incriminating. She is completely on the defensive and shows no concern whatsoever that her child may have been harmed or killed. Her priority is proving the dogs were wrong, not the discovery of what happened to her daughter.MRNOODLES wrote:jeanmonroe wrote:Before the McSpinners get to work:

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after police searching for a missing pensioner discovered a body at her home.
Cynthia Beamond, 80, from Howley Grange in Halesowen, West Midlands, was reported missing after she was last seen on Friday morning.
West Midlands Police said the body, which has not been formally identified, was found after an 'extensive and thorough search' of Mrs Beamond's home.
A 23-year-old woman and 32-year-old man are being held on suspicion of murder.
Detective Superintendent Tim Bacon said: 'Mrs Beamond's property has been searched by specialist officers in a bid to preserve as much evidence as possible.

I think Gerry meant Eddie didn't smell blood when he said 'the dog didn't smell blood'.
He's quite right, it was Keela .... She did smell blood in 5a Ger and there were two dogs so the dog which didn't smell blood must have been the only other dog who smelled cadaver!
I hope that's cleared that up Dr. Gerry, you were absolutely not telling a lie - perhaps not the whole truth..

Being a complete dog-lover (the more I see of men, the more I love my dogs - OK misquote!) aren't they the most wonderful creatures.? Used to diagnose serious medical problems, to detect drugs, to find blood, find cadaver scent, search for lost people - and they give love and loyalty unreservedly and NEVER LIE. Now I read they can detect electronic gadgetry - marvellous. Re: "Unreliable" dogs do it AGAIN! Double murder couple found guilty.
With all the focus on the libel trial today, I wonder what the dogs are up to... Surely if the remit for OG is to conduct a full review, then the dogs evidence should also be reviewed, especially as these dogs have found remains that were over 25 years old (source http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/the-csi-death-dogs-sniffing-out-the-truth-behind-the-crimescene-canines-835047.html) - does anyone know what happened to the scenic?
