The lawyer for Madeleine McCann's kidnap and murder suspect Christian Brueckner has insisted his client is 'no psychopathic monster'.
Friedrich Fulscher described the 43-year-old serial paedophile as a 'friendly conversationist'.
He went on to claim: 'The prosecutor's office seems to have shot at our client and is now trying to correct their lack of evidence by any means possible.
'I experience him as a very calm and friendly interlocutor, and the atmosphere between us has always been very pleasant.'
He said Brueckner has not spoken about the case 'and he has a right to silence', which does not infer guilt.
Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner (pictured) may not face charges for the three-year-old's disappearance, German prosecutors have said
German prosecutors have repeatedly claimed they have 'concrete evidence' that the three-year-old - who vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal in 2007 - was killed.
Last month they insisted they had shared this information with Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry McCann in a letter.
This was despite the McCanns' furious insistence that they had not received a letter.
Fulscher has in the past claimed the prosecutor's office have not shared Brueckner's case file with him to indicate what proof they
allegedly have against him.

Brueckner is said to have logged into a radio cell tower close to Madeleine's hotel on the night she vanished.
Fulscher criticises the fact that it is not clear how large the radio cell was at the time or whether Brueckner had even had the alleged conversation with an unknown person.
Brueckner is currently serving a 21-month sentence in Kiel, Germany for drugs offences, and it was reported last this month that he could soon be out of prison on parole.
Lawyers have reportedly filed a request for him to be released after serving two-thirds of his sentence, but prosecutors fear he may flee the country after his release.
In 2011, Brueckner was sentenced to 21 months in jail for his part in a drugs trafficking ring that supplied marijuana to VIP clients.
The serial sex offender is also facing a separate sentence for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman on a waterfront villa less than a mile from where Madeleine went missing in Portugal in 2007.
Although he was convicted in December 2019, he appealed against his seven-year sentence and so it cannot be imposed until his appeal avenues are exhausted.

Police previously said a phone linked to Brueckner had received a 30-minute call between 7.32pm and 8.02pm on the night Madeleine disappeared from the Ocean Club apartment complex.
Scotland Yard took the unusual step of releasing two mobile telephone numbers as part of an appeal to end the 13-year mystery on June 4.
The first number +315 912 730 680 is believed have been used by the prime suspect.
He received a call from another Portuguese number + 351 916 510 683 while in the Praia de Luz area.
Mr Wolters confessed last month 'the investigation may not lead to a charge for the murder of Madeleine McCann,' as it 'could be stopped if we fail to find the missing evidence.'
Brueckner moved from Germany to Praia da Luz in 1995 after serving part of a two-year sentence for molesting a six-year-old girl in Wurzburg.
At the time of Madeleine's vanishing he was living in the area about a 10-minute drive away.
Following his identification as a suspect in the case, he has further been linked to the disappearances of six-year-old boy René Hasse in the Algarve, 1996, and five-year-old girl Igna Gehnricke in Germany, 2015.

Bungling Portuguese police 'unwittingly destroyed Christian Brueckner's van before it could be searched for evidence'
Vital clues to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann may have been unwittingly destroyed by Portuguese police, it has been reported.
A blue Bedford van that prime suspect Christian Brueckner owned at the time she went missing was impounded for the non-payment of a fine for stealing fuel and reportedly later crushed before it could be searched for evidence.
German drifter Brueckner used to live and sleep in the van on the beach near Praia da Luz between February and April 2006 while he was unemployed and homeless.
Crucially he still owned the van in May 2007 when Madeleine disappeared in the coastal resort, according to the respected Portuguese newspaper Expresso.

It reported: 'Madeleine Case: A van the German suspect owned when she disappeared was dismantled in 2009.
'Christian Brueckner used to sleep in an old Bedford van when he was stealing fuel in Algarve.
'He still had that van in May 2007 the date of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.'
Brueckner, who was 30 at the time, bought the van with an Austrian friend Michael Tatschl in 2006.
The pair worked together stealing diesel from trucks which they later sold.

But Brueckner and Tatschl were caught red handed in April 2006 after they had already stolen 300 litres of fuel and were jailed for seven months.
They were released in December 2006 but were ordered to pay compensation for the stolen fuel in the form of a fine.
But Brueckner never paid the fine and when police tried to enforce payment in November 2007 he had disappeared from the address in Barrocal that he had given the court.
It is at that point that the Bedford van is believed to have been impounded by the police in lieu of the unpaid fine.
But the vehicle was in such a bad state of repair that the authorities could not sell it at auction to recoup the cost of the fine.

Brueckner also boasted how he could hide and transport children in a camper van just months before Madeleine disappeared.
The German drifter allegedly made the comment to the father of a female friend who lived in a village 40 miles from Praia da Luz.
Showing off his van Brueckner bragged: 'I can transport children in this.
'Nobody can find them, nobody can catch you.'
Bruecker was already known to have owned one camper van – and a Jaguar car – while he was in Portugal.
Later it was revealed that Bruecker bought another van, a Tiffin Alegro, and that German detectives found young girls' clothes in it, according to Germany's Spiegel TV.
German authorities released pictures of the VW Westfalia T3camper van and a dark coloured Jaguar urging anyone who had seen the vehicles in the Algarve to come forward to help solve the Madeleine McCann case.

Golf link
Little reported is that there is a connection to Golfers in the area.
Apparently Brückner would find old Golf balls that had been lost by players, and clean and re sell them.
It may explain why his chosen form of disguise on breaking and entering was a diving mask. Maybe he was a ‘Golf snorkeller’ and retrieved Golf balls from water obstacles.

There is an article somewhere on this blog that shows G Amaral with the original photos of Brueckner's camper van covered in cartoon characters. He was interviewed by the PJ in the early days. I saw it within the last few days.

Thanks. The forum moves so fast it's hard to remember where I've seen things. I don't know how you keep up with it.

Re: Madeleine McCann suspect is 'no psychopathic monster' and prosecutors have a 'lack of evidence', claims his lawyer
The photos of the VW van circulated by the BKA and UK OG are quite possibly different for three reasons;
1. They were taken before the Cartoon artworks were put on.
2. They were taken afterwards (looks more likely) Some showing through is evident, and parts have been changed.
3. It’s a ploy to tease out real from false providers of info.
CB did try doing a Mechanic apprenticeship once. May be that’s relevant?
