Madeleine McCann's mum Kate ploughs £170,000 from book sales into search

Madeleine McCann's mum wrote a book - called Madeleine: Our Daughter’s Disappearance And The Continuing Search For Her - after the girl vanished aged three in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz

ByJerry Lawton and Chris Kitching

21:21, 26 APR 2020

Madeleine McCann's mum has taken £170,000 from sales of her book and put it towards the search for her missing daughter, it is reported.

Madeleine was just three-years-old when she vanished from her family's holiday flat in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007.

Her parents, mum Kate and dad Gerry, left her sleeping with her other siblings and went for dinner with friends at a tapas restaurant.

Former GP Mrs McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, later wrote Madeleine: Our Daughter’s Disappearance And The Continuing Search For Her.

All royalties from the book, published in 2011, are donated to Madeleine's Fund.

Since March 2017, Mrs McCann, 52, has ploughed £170,000 from sales into Madeleine’s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Ltd over the past three years, the Daily Star reported.

The fund is run by the McCanns to handle donations for the search which is still ongoing 13 years after Maddie vanished in the Algarve resort during a family holiday.

She would now be 16.

It has £844,573 in cash and assets, up £20,000 on last year, according to its latest accounts.

The couple launched Madeleine’s Fund to pay for private investigators they had hired to find their daughter.

The McCanns hold a service every year on May 3 to bring awareness to the case, but this year's event has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The couple, who have never given up hope that Madeleine could still be found alive, will mark the grim anniversary at home while the country is in lockdown.

Their most recent post on the 'Official Find Madeleine Campaign' Facebook page came on Christmas Day last year.

It read: "Christmas 2019. Nothing has changed... we love her, we miss her, we hope as always.

"The search for Madeleine goes on with unwavering commitment."

In February, it was reported that British detectives investigating Madeleine's disappearance had applied for more money to continue their hunt.

The Metropolitan Police has already been handed £12million to investigate the case and were set to ask the Home Office for more, according to the report.

It was understood the Home Office had received details of the Met’s anticipated spending on Operation Grange for 2020-2021 and the request would be considered in due course.

It  was not known how much the force had asked for but a further £300,000 was awarded to the investigation in June 2019.

Portuguese police have archived the case as an unsolved mystery.

Blimey - it's contagious..

Maddie McCann's mum Kate ploughs in £170,000 from book sales to find daughter

Madeleine's mother Kate McCann has spent tens of thousands of pounds of her money to help the search to track down her daughter who went missing aged three in 2007

ByJerry Lawton

   20:48, 26 APR 2020

Madeleine McCann’s mum has ploughed £170,000 from the sale of her book into the search for her over the past three years.

Former GP Kate wrote Madeleine: Our Daughter’s Disappearance And The Continuing Search For Her nine years ago.

But it continues to sell well and since March 2017 has brought in royalties worth £169,431 after tax.

The cash was paid into Madeleine’s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Limited which is run by Kate and her heart specialist husband Gerry to handle cash donated by the public to help look for the youngster who vanished on holiday in Portugal in 2007.

According to its latest accounts the firm boasts more than £844,573 in cash and assets - £20,000 up on last year.

Then three-year-old Madeleine disappeared from her family’s holiday apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz while her parents dined with pals in a nearby tapas bar.

Kate, 52, and Gerry, 51, launched their fund to pay for teams of private investigators to search for her.

Though Portuguese police archived the case as an unsolved mystery in 2008 the Metropolitan Police launched their own investigation seven years ago.

Its on-going Operation Grange probe has so far cost Brit taxpayers £12m.

Police has asked the Home Office for more funds to continue the inquiry.

The McCanns have never given up hope that their daughter could still be found alive.

She would now be 16.

A service to remember her due to take place on May 3 – the 13th anniversary of her disappearance - has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Instead the family will mark the grim memorial at their home in Rothley, Leics, and will be sharing prayers and readings online.

Madeleine’s great uncle Brian Kennedy, 80, who lives near the couple, said: “Present circumstances make our usual gathering impossible so it will all have to be done at long distance.

“We are asking members of our own churches here in Rothley as well as some others to remember the day with some short prayers and readings via email and the various internet sites.’’

Contagious !!

We have another " pandemic " on our hands !

McCann virus !

This one is even more lethal , it's been around for the past almost 13 years with no sign of letting up . So far it's cost the British taxpayers more than £11 million and no sign of a vaccine .

Will there be a " lockdown " to stop people gathering to talk about the " abduction " especially those who say it never happened ?

Groups like CMOMM will be warned against the " spread of infection "

No " reasonable excuses " will be accepted .

You will now  able to buy paint , because that will keep you busy and stop you " trolling " the internet spreading hate against the McCanns ( heart doctor Gerry 51 and exGP Kate 52 )
You will clap for Madeleines safe return to her grieving parents , particularly on the anniversary 3rd May at anytime between 9.15 and 10.00 pm ( thinking about Tannerman and Smithman the abductor seen heading in different directions at different times , but that doesn't matter ! )

Buying a few more loo rolls may be necessary , to deal with all the b/s flying around though using the Star , Sun , Mirror , Mail etc is possible it's not advisable .

Remember " there's no evidence Madeleine is dead ." And dogs are still " incredibly unreliable "

Has the case been archived in Portugal again?

If it has it means I can do a bit of sniffing around.  Once lockdown is lifted, of course.

Lawton slash Towers slash Kandohla, of the lowest of low gutter press, are living in a time warp.

They get their recycled information from the gutter.

The wisest decision is to take what they say, multiply it by zero, add 200,000 in line with the worldometer coronavirus death count, then subtract 200,001 in line with the most probable outcome of the coronavirus headcount, multiply that by zero, add a few turns of good quality milled sea salt and wash it down with copious quaffs of complimentary New Zealand wine.

Et voilà!  You have an indigestible exclusive tabloid news report.

Tearful Kate McCann is 'overwhelmed' at poignant prayer service to mark 12th anniversary of daughter Maddie's disappearance as Portuguese police say they're 'closing in on kidnapper'

Kate McCann warmly welcomed at prayer service to mark the 12th anniversary of Maddie's disappearance
Mrs McCann, 51, said she was 'overwhelmed' by the support she received today at the church prayer service
It was the first time husband Gerry hadn't been at her side during an anniversary, he was busy working in Italy
The emotional photos of Mrs McCann come as Portugese police say they are closing in on Maddie's kidnapper

The mother of Madeleine McCann joined friends and well wishers to remember her daughter on the 12th anniversary of her disappearance, as Portuguese police revealed they could be closing in on her kidnapper.

Kate McCann and her 14-year-old twins Sean and Amelie were warmly welcomed during a poignant prayer service in their home village of Rothley, Leicestershire, while her heart doctor husband Gerry was busy working in Italy.

A visibly emotional Mrs McCann, 51, was 'overwhelmed' by the support as she joined in prayers and readings to mark the occasion - the first anniversary without Gerry by her side.

Her uncle Brian Kennedy said before the half hour service that the family 'still had hope even after all these years'.

The retired head teacher, 80, declined to discuss detectives' potential new leads which they have yet to be informed about, saying: 'We're just grateful that police are still searching. It gives us hope.'

Mrs McCann, wearing a purple puffa jacket and black jeans and with her hair freshly highlighted and trimmed, fought back tears during as children, including her twins, lit candles for Maddie and other lost children.

The gathering had been due to take place at the war memorial in the McCann's home village of Rothley, Leicestershire, where a candle burns around the clock as a beacon of hope for the world's most famous missing child.

But it was moved into the nearby local Baptist Church to avoid expected rains showers.

Is it generally acceptable for a devout catholic to use a Baptist church as a place of worship?  Or is it like the church in Luz - open doors to all denominations or is it like Wimbledon - rain stop play.

Yes it is generally acceptable.

Catholics ain't what they used to be since.... 8th December 1965 (Closing of the Second Vatican Council).

They changed all the rules whilst pretending they didn't (a "re-presentment" of traditional doctrine).

Anything goes these days.

Popes can even kiss Qurans.

For Paulo Sargento, the thesis that Gonçalo Amaral revealed at first hand to "SP" that the blanket could have been used in a funeral ceremony at the Luz chapel "is very interesting".

And he adds: "In reality, when the McCanns went to Oprah's Show, the blanket was mentioned. At a given moment, when Oprah tells Kate that she heard her mention a blanket several times, Kate argued that a mother who misses a child always wants to know if she is comfortable, if she is warm, and added, referring to Maddie, that sometimes she asked herself if the person who had taken her would cover her up with her little blanket (but the blanket was on the bed after Maddie, supposedly, disappeared!!!).

IF I THOUGHT IT WOULD HELP, I WOULD CLAP FOR MADDIE TILL I DROPPED.  WHILST I WAS AWAY, I VOLUNTEERED WITH A WELL-KNOWN SEARCH AND RECOVERY GROUP IN MY AREA.  DIDN'T DO MUCH - JUST PLAYED WITH PUPPIES TO SOCIALIZE THEM A BIT AND OCCASIONALLY WAS ASKED TO GO INTO THE WOODS SO THE DOGS COULD "FIND" ME.  DIDN'T LAST LONG AT IT, AS LOCAL VENOMOUS SNAKES PROVED BETTER AT FINDING ME THAN THE DOGS DID.  TALKED TO ONE OF THE TRAINERS AND SHE TOLD ME MOST POSITIVELY THAT IF A CADAVER DOG REACTS, THERE HAS BEEN A CADAVER THERE - NO MISTAKE BY A DECENTLY-TRAINED DOG IN THAT REGARD.  SHE SHOWED ME SOME STUDIES VALIDATING THAT,  SHE HAD HEARD OF EDDIE, KEELA, AND MORSE AND SAID THEY ARE SIMPLY THE BEST ON THE PLANET.  END OF.

The McCanns had a nice extension built on their house as well, apparently they were broke before they went to PDL as they had to take 2 mortgage payments out of the Find Madeleine Fund.

think Firstly, on the cover of the book, it does state "All royalties donated to Madeleine's fund"

Secondly, the money has not been used for a search, it has been tied up in a fixed asset investment.

One of the terms and conditions of "Madeleine's Fund" is that the money can be used to help the "wider family".  I wonder how "wide" the family spreads?

I wonder how many of the "wider family" have benefited from it and what they've spent their "share" on.

I haven't looked at their accounts on Companies' House for a while but what I have seen over the past years is that there is no real detail as to where the money goes, please correct me if I've wrong.
