Thinking of you today Madeleine as always. I only hope that one day Justice will be severed. You deserved a lot better than what you got.

Rest in peace little one. You may never have had a dignified funeral or burial, your short time on this earth may have been eclipsed by the media circus bought to avoid the consequences of your death, but there are those who fought for justice for you. R.I.P Linda, Dawn and Brenda, well done to Eddie and Keela no longer here and continued support and good wishes to PeterMac, Dr. Amaral, Jill, Tony, Richard and all who defy the consequences in your memory.

Re: WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON Sunday 29 APRIL 2007? - Today marks the 10th Anniversary of what many of us, sadly, believe to have been Madeleine's last day.
So what really happened to Madeleine on Sunday 29 April 2007?
It seems we have 4 choices:
1. Sunday was a normal, happy, family day on holiday, and Madeleine was abducted between 9pm and 10pm on Thurday 3 May, as the McCanns have always claimed
2. Sunday was a normal, happy, family day on holiday, but she suffered a fatal accident after 6pm on Thursday 3 May, the Mccanns rapidly hid her body, sat down for dinner after 8pm and they all faked an abduction
3. Sunday was a normal, happy, family day on holiday, but she suffered a fatality some time after 11.45pm on Tuesday 1 May when Mrs Fenn ALLEGEDLY heard Madeleine crying for 75 minutes, and then they all faked an abduction two nights later
4. Sunday was anything but a normal day. Madeleine was sitting by the pool Sunday lunchtime, when she was also seen by Fatima, the cleaning lady. She was dressed up in a pink smock. If the Make-Up photo was taken later that day, she was further dressed up with eyeshadow, necklace, lipstick and a hair-bow, maybe plus eyeliner. Later that evening the Tapas groups made a hasty booking of the Tapas restaurant for the rest of the week, giving very unconvincing reasons for this sudden change of plan. After Sunday, there was no credible, independent, verifiable sighting of Madeleine for the rest of the holiday. So what really happened to her that Sunday? Did they arrange - maybe with the help and assistance of MI5? - a fake abduction of her 4 days later? - with the help of one or two of the crèche nannies?

I'm of the belief that today or possibly the early hours of tomorrow represents the 10th anniversary of Madeleine's dreadfully sad passing.

I believe a maid saw all five going upstairs to the apt. above for lunch, carrying some food, on the Monday? I think this is the sighting that Richard D. Hall calls 'the last confirmed sighting' but I may have that wrong from memory. The actual last photo is timed for the Sunday by him, by the pool, because of weather conditions.

No, the sighting by the maid was SUNDAY lunchtime.Searcher wrote:I believe a maid saw all five going upstairs to the apt. above for lunch, carrying some food, on the Monday? I think this is the sighting that Richard D. Hall calls 'the last confirmed sighting' but I may have that wrong from memory. The actual last photo is timed for the Sunday by him, by the pool, because of weather conditions.
It was a very detailed decription of all five members of Madeleine's family, leaving their apartment, and walking up to the Paynes' apartment carrying some food. She observed that Gerry Mccan was the last to leave the apartment, a bit behind the others.
The maid noticed what Madeleine was wearing and it matches very well with what we see on the 'Last Photo'. The maid times her sighting just before 1.30pm, allowing time for them to have a picnic-style lunch, and then come out to the pool in time for Kate McCann to take the Last Photos at 2.29pm, Sunday.
No other independent staemnt comes anywhere near close to this in its detail. Look for example at what Cat Baker, the nanny, said about her alleged high tea at 5pm to 6pm on the Thursday, and it is vague, lacks specifics, and is contradictory as between her two statements.
Something seems to have occurred later that day to make them suddenly demand, and with some degree of insisteece, that they be allocated a table in the Tapas restaurant for the rest of the week. Besides that, the McCanns hastily changed their plans about breakfast and lunch and now decided to take both meals on their own in their apartment. Any researcher or investigator would be bound to question what pompted these sudden changes of plan.

Thank you Tony; I wonder if you would have a reference from one of the Richard D. Hall films? Just my curiosity! I emailed Richard earlier to see if he could clarify. All very best.

Witness statement
Taken by officer Jose Luis, Inspector
Date : 2007: 05: 08
Name: Fatima Maria Serafim da Silva Espada
Profession: Cleaner
Place of work: Luz Ocean Club
She has worked at the Ocean Club for approximately eleven years. She is a permanent employee of the Club and works all year round. She has a day and a half off a week. She has fixed working hours from 10.00 AM to 18.00 with a break for lunch from 13.30 to 18.00 and remains at the club during this time or goes to attend to personal matters near to the Club. She has a fixed day off on Tuesdays and had a day off on May 1st (national holiday) as well Sunday afternoon 29th April.
When asked how her work was organised in the club, specifically in the cleaning areas where she worked, she said there are norms pre-defining the areas where each employee worked, with the aim of delivering an efficient service. This principle does not imply that in times of work overload for any colleague, that they could not help out even in areas that were not allocated to them. She knows because she has heard that the missing English girl was staying in block 5 apartment A, which is referred to as 5A out of habit. This apartment is situated in a zone that was not allocated to her, but to a colleague, in this case her mother Maria Julia Silva.
She knows that the little girl disappeared on the night of 3rd May and is sure that she only heard about this on the following morning when she arrived at work, as it was the only subject being talked about.
She had the opportunity to observe the photos of Madeleine that were being circulated everywhere and has no hesitation in confirming that she saw the child before her disappearance in the company of her siblings and mother and father, although in the latter case she only observed him from a distance.
She states that this took place on Sunday 29th April, just before she finished her morning work shift (13.30) as she had the afternoon off that day. At about 13.15 she went to help her mother, who was cleaning apartment I of the same block (5) situated on the first floor. She clearly remembers seeing the girl accompanied by her siblings and mother leave their apartment (5 A) and walk to the stairs leading to the floor above. She was very close to them at a distance of about 1 metre, observing their movements for a few moments because she was charmed by them. Madeleine led the way with a plate (perhaps plastic) in her hand bearing a piece of bread. As regards the clothes she was wearing she only remembers a skirt but cannot recall its description. She noted, because she thought them nice, the type of shoes she was wearing, tennis shoes, light in colour she thinks, which had little lights along the soles, which lit up each time she stepped on the ground. Her siblings followed behind her, wearing the same king of shoes and each holding a piece of bread in their hands, their mother followed behind them without holding their hands. She seems to remember that the mother was also carrying a plate. Moments afterwards, perhaps the time it took to close the apartment door, the father came out and also headed to the apartment upstairs. When asked, she does not remember whether the father pulled the door closed or locked it with a key.
After she chatted to her mother about there being many children in the apartments, she had the idea that the family in 5H were friends of Madeleine's family who were staying in 5 A.
She never cleaned any of these apartments referred to as they were allocated to her mother. Her mother never mentioned anything strange to her, either before or after the girl's disappearance that could be related to the disappearance. The only comment she remembered concerned the clutter in the apartments, mainly clothing which was left all around the place. She thinks that her mother cleaned the apartments in that block on Monday and Wednesday (02-05).
When asked if she observed anything in the apartments where she cleaned that indicated a person particularly interested in children, such as objects, photos, videos or anything else, she replies no. She has no knowledge of any fact that could contribute to discover Madeleine's whereabouts and pledges to contact the authorities if anything should happen.
No more is said. She reads the statement and finds it in conformity, ratifies it and signs it together with me, the officer who drew up the statement.

When did the McCanns have their row after Gerry got cosy with the female quiz mistress? We have the Team McCann version on that but not sure if it has been verified. There was rather a lot of "got to make it match with what the maids might have noticed" going on, I've heard some people suggest.
Sorry - that seemed a rather key day...but I can't recall now the exact date.

@ Okeydokey And that (bolded bit above) is surely the key to understanding the issue of the alleged row between Kate & Gerry McCann on the Wednesday night (2 May). We simply have zero corroboration from any other witness of what Kate McCann has said about that night - and the same goes for the rest of the week. Any corroboration comes from the Tapas 7 group and Cat Baker, none of whom were independent witnesses.Okeydokey wrote:When did the McCanns have their row after Gerry got cosy with the female quiz mistress? About the only independent corroboration we have for the week comes from the four photographs - which are good forensic evidence - and the clearly reliable statement of the independent witness, Fatima, the cleaner. We have the three playground photos of Madeleine on the Saturday, one of which we can time at late afternoon or early evening by the length of the shadows.
Then we have the 'Pool Photo', which by (a) the weather conditions and (b) the length of the shadows we can date with near-certainty at between 12.30pm and 2.30pm on Sunday 29 April.
Thus, in summary, we have FIVE very reliable pieces of evidence about what Madeleine was doing that week up to Sunday lunchtime (in addition, we have several indications that the Make-Up Photo was taken later on Sunday).
But after that, nothng independent and reliable (as per, e.g., HideHo's long and comprehensive post on the subject here two years ago).
The story about the Wednesday night was that the quizmistress got friendly with Gerry (even though the quiz evening was supposed to have been on the Tuesday night, 1 May), Kate left early in a huff, Gerry returned later, flopped into bed and started snoring, and Kate went and slept on one of the two beds in the children's room.
It has been suggested that this tale was developed in connection with what Inspector Tavares de Almeida firmly suggested in his interim report of 10 September 2007 - namely that the 'crime scene' (in the children's bedroom) was pre-arranged.
Personally, I don't believe a word of it.
SUMMARY
We have five, possibly six, pieces of good, reliable, independent evidence of what Madeleine was doing that week until Sunday afternoon.
WE HAVE NONE AFTER THAT.
.

Textusa wrote a 'tongue-in-cheek' blog post about Quiz Night.
It's worth a re-read for the humour - but also confirms the total confusion about whether it did/did not take place; which night it happened/did not happen; and who might/might not have been playing on the tapas team:
