Brits already forking out en-masse for Maddie cop libel appeal

After what many consider the bombshell of a judicial decision last week, British supporters of the former Portuguese policeman ordered to pay the parents of Madeleine McCann €500,000 euros in damages are rallying to a “gofundme” online appeal for his legal defence.
Already widely reported is the fact that Gonçalo Amaral “will appeal to the last judicial instance” against the vast sum of damages awarded against him in the civil action for defamation taken out by Kate and Gerry McCann. But what few in Portugal may be aware of is that an online fund set up by a 22-year-old woman in Birmingham is already seeing money pouring in in Amaral’s defence.
At time of writing on Sunday morning, 315 people had donated over £5,000 to the Legal Defence for Gonçalo Amaral set up by Leanne Baulch, with all sorts leaving commentaries, including at least one introducing himself as a retired police officer.
Jill Parkin added her £10 donation to the fund, saying: “Please do not give up in your quest for justice and the truth. I believe you are a honourable man who has been badly wronged. I honestly do not know what happened in this case but someone is lying and someone out there does know”
Many donors’ comments allude to an article in today’s Sunday Sun that suggests Amaral is being funded by “British trolls”.
As Emma Mitchell, giving £100 commented: “Shame on you The Sun! ... Keep fighting GA , Madeleine deserves justice and so do you”.
Kirstene Glynn added her contribution, saying: “From yet another "nasty Internet troll" keep on fighting GA we're behind u all the way”.
While others stumping up for the appeal that hopes to raise £25,000 pointed out: “There is a battle going on in social media land to force this through to the mainstream” which, they claim, “for some reason” only publishes one side of this seemingly endless and long-running story.
Thus for now, Amaral is being buoyed by two online appeals both here and in UK as British media persist with 8th anniversary “Madeleine disappearance” stories, including “exposés” on Amaral’s so-called “fall from grace” and new “revelations about a string of burglaries on the Praia da Luz resort from which Madeleine went missing.
According to the Express on Sunday, a home Amaral had hoped to retire to in a “millionaires development” near Olhão has “been seized to to cover the McCann libel payout” and is now boarded up, the property of the courts.
The paper quotes an alleged friend, saying that everything Amaral has worked for “all his life, could be lost”.
As we wrote this article, another three people bolstered the gofundme appeal.
By the end of the day donations had leapt almost £500.

Des - The term *Troll* was once reserved for those who resorted to using threatening or extreme language on social media, now it's used to describe anyone who disagrees with the mainstream media & their friends. And, unfortunately, we're lumbered with a media that bows to the rich & powerful, regardless of the truth, whilst preying on soft targets, like the Portuguese detective, who cannot afford libel lawyers. The truth is, if you have influential allies & enough money to hire half a dozen top-notch lawyers, you can quite literally get away with anything in the UK. No wonder there's so many cover-ups involving children.

This fund is a fantastic effort because it is joining up more people who perhaps dont frequent forums such as this - collectively - the more we can network in these people the better

The comments are at least as good as the money accruing. Given the MSM will be reading them, it's all helping illuminate to those time-servers, we are not going to be dissuaded by a bunch of has-beens desperate to keep their dying medium from extinction.

We are so close to hitting the £7.5K mark thanks to all of you that has contributed, supported and/or shared the fund. Thank you so much for all you have done, you have been so generous and supportive. It fills we with joy to see so many amazing people coming together for such a wonderful, and hard working man. Just had a quick glance at twitter and was horrified to see that the girl who started up the fund has put up a photo of Gerry and Kate McCann taken from a guess their age app.  This kind of thing just ruins all the kind comments and donations that have been written/received.  I gave two donations over the weekend but to be honest I wish I had just donated via the portuguese account because quite frankly I do not wish to be associated with that.  Irony is that people are protesting about being called trolls yet here is the fund organiser doing her own bit of trolling.  :-(

I choose to ignore stuff like that, same as I do on here if people post pics of the two that are a bit below the belt. 

TBH I couldn't find the pics she was supposed to have posted in her Twitter photos so I wouldn't put it passed the pros to doctor things a bit. Also, the person who has circulated said picture has all of a sudden got friendly with Gurney and the debate group on FB whilst still protesting he's on the side of Madeleine and GA. Not naming names but I wouldn't trust him as far as I could through him!

I normally ignore that kind of stuff too but it just angers me that here is a great platform to show our support to Dr Amaral and also show the MSM and general public that we are not 'trolls' and have Madeleine's interests at heart of all this and yet it can be so easily ruined by one or two thoughtless people.

The fund now stands at £7,440.00.I know the young lady very well who started this fund. Ok as a Facebook friend, but very well. I know she wouldn't do anything at all to jeopordise the fund.

I wouldn't put it past certain interested parties.

I am glad that I was able to donate to Sn Amaral's defence fund and was happy to comment on it. Kate must be fuming that her campaign isn't getting anywhere near the coffers pouring in for Sn Amaral. She or her rotten husband couldn't even turn up for her daughter's 8 year memorial. She was probably terrified at showing up as she knows the public is now finally waking up to their scam and some might even look at this forum or the PJ online files. It was always money,money,money for the McCanns while Madeleine was just an afterthought. Sn Amaral is a honest gentleman who only wanted to get the truth and justice for a wee girl he had never even met.

It's possible.  I believe there was a couple of earlier attempts to derail it at the weekend.  Glad to see that it hasn't put people off in their support.  Over £8k! Fantastic!

It's not just Brits contributing. There are good hearts and souls from outside UK who are contributing too.

All these contributions are being made without the need for a cake sale, a coffee morning, a fun run or a poster campaign. No overheads. Just supportive people who are fed up of the media crap.


ETA: No candlelit vigils, no children's pocket money, no children's drawings, no sugar-coated appeal.

This is good.

I have met Goncalo through work when he was in Portimao a year before Madeline went missing. He treated my colleague and I to a meal the first night we arrived there and was always asking if his officers were assisting us properly in our enquiries which they were. I found the Police in Portimao extremely professional and thorough and IT was as a result of Goncalo and his officers that our enquiries were 100% successful. Good luck if you read this Goncalo as I once said to you that "we are the biggest gang in the World"

Today I made my donation to the fund for Amaral's legal fees.

We can see the current amount donated in stg£ and its great to see it well over £8,000 donated in only 5 days - is there anyway to know how much has been donated in euro? - or does the amount we see in stg£ include the euro donations converted to stg?
