Confirmed by journalist Len Port today, Gonçalo Amaral is set to appeal against the vast sum of damages awarded against him in the civil action for defamation taken out by the parents of Madeleine McCann.
As we revealed yesterday, Amaral told us: “We are in the face of a mere battle in a war that is far from over”.
But today, reaction from Portugal and elsewhere to the ruling by judge Emília Melo e Castro has started pouring in, both via mainstream and social media.
Sol’s columnist João Pinto Costa write: “Former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral was condemned to pay €500,000 to the parents of Madeleine McCann because of the publication of his book ‘Maddie: The Truth of the Lie’. Finally, we found one person who will not make any money from the disappearance of the English girl.”
Lawyer João Grade is quoted on Facebook as saying: “I read his book and I was convinced, as I had been before anyway, that it was not an abduction. The book does not defame the McCanns, Gonçalo Amaral does not express his opinion, but an investigative thesis.”

That is the best remark for a very long time.

There must be a few (at least) very wealthy people in Portugal.

Would be good if one or more of those would pledge BIG monetary support in Rocky's quest to get a victory with his appeal.

Yes,  I am always wondering why someone very wealthy cant just sponsor this very good cause - and give him the means to be able to continue fighting against this injustice.  Hopefully someone may step in - but it needs someone who doesnt just take the MSM at face value.

All he did was investigate this case properly - and he is ending up sacrificing so many years and suffering personal abuse and financial ruin as a result. It is very depressing

Dr Amaral should write a new book; now, outside the restraints of secrecy set by Judge CyM, he would be free to put out any theory he likes

I`m hoping he will - setting out the facts leading up to the present - maybe he will wait until after the Appeal.

or even someone well known, say a sportsperson, to show their support publicly for him. Once one did it, I`m sure loads more would.

As indeed WE all are!

'encouraged' and ASKED, to purport 'theorys/OTHER 'explanations' as to 'how' Madeleine is 'not here', by Madeleine's father G McCann!

To 'avoid' possible 'libel/slander' accusations from the litigious McCann's, one just has to pre-face one's 'theory/explanation' with the words 'My explanation, for Madeleine's 'disappearance', or, how/why Madeleine is 'not here',  is.............."
