Re: Digging to start next week (continuation of automatically locked thread) - UPDATE... starting today 2/6/14
The to-ing and fro-ing about whether the McCanns promoted Smithman or not seems quite obvious to me. The Smithman sighting became a focus for McCann sceptics thanks to Amaral's book and various comments, especially in regard to the Smith family's claim they were fairly certain it was Gerry. Like many things that the McCanns have glossed over with flip excuses (rotting meat and nappies in the car, Kate being present at various deaths etc) they had to cover this somehow. IMHO they did so by focusing (erroneously given Redwood's identification of Tannerman) on whatever resemblance they could get to Tannerman.
The fact that SY want to ID Smithman and have NOT claimed him to be the same as their ID of Tannerman is, perhaps, a positive sign that SY is not entirely in cahoots with TM.

Oh yes, I see what you mean - ornate iron railings are now guarding the window. I wonder what that is about!

Not on any news channel or in any press I have read in the last few days has been the word abduction.... disappeared or went missing are the expressions used.

Bless little Madeleine. :-(
I have changed my post MrsC, to something is happening, I may be a bit premature with the announcement bit. Just read the tweets in a hurry and got confused
OK, thanks for that, candyfloss. x
I don't believe Madeleine is alive but the thought she may be buried somewhere like that is just heart-breaking.

That's it, IGNORE British sniffer dogs Eddie and Keela, in 2007.
And bring in 7 years later! the same type of dog as Eddie and Keela (British sniffer dogs).
Are we meant to believe the new British dogs ?

Sorry if I have put this on the wrong thread so please remove if I have,
I was reading a post recently ( cant remember exact words ) which mentioned the recent comment via a friend of the Mccann's that unless Madeleine's DNA is found they wont be returning to Portugal..... the poster thought it was an odd comment for parents of a missing child to make, and so do I, you would think they would have said if they find her body - not her DNA
When you think about it, imo, it really is a very odd comment and ranks among some other seemingly odd comments they have made...ie, The one where Gerry Mccann snapped " find the body" seemed odd at the time but it doesnt seem so odd now if you think about the more recent odd one about not returning to Portugal unless Madeleine's DNA is found.... unless her DNA is found ? Why say that ? imo, if the Mccann's know for sure there is no body to be found, then these two odd comments when put together would make sense ..... was Gerry Mccann's subconscious mind coming to the front when he said DNA and not body ?

What a grubby pair (in all senses imo).
Who´d take dirty rubber gloves on holiday with them and why? Car boot with dirty nappies and rotting meat left in long enough to stink the car out. One toothbrush between three kids. Odd bedtime reading choices.

Madeleine McCann Police Want To Extend Search
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
British police searching for Madeleine McCann have asked Portuguese authorities for another week to search scrubland.
Officers had originally been given until Friday, but it is thought they will get the go-ahead to continue.
The search entered its third day on Wednesday and saw police use ground-penetrating radar for the first time.
They also used sniffer dogs and erected tents over several locations they have deemed significant. Two forensic officers were seen entering the tents to examine what was hidden below.
One of the tents is covering a hole concealed by corrugated iron which was exposed on Tuesday after trees and shrubs were cut down.

Earlier, the detective leading the investigation, DCI Andy Redwood, examined the area which it is thought had been covered by the iron for a number of years.
The radar scanners being used can examine the sub-surface of the ground several metres down.
Experts will then look for any anomalies in the ground that may signify the earth has been disturbed.
Former Metropolitan Police search advisor Keith Farquharson told Sky News: "It will show anomalies within the earth structure (but) it won't show a skeleton like an X-ray would.
"It would just show the anomaly in the ground. That would have to be investigated and the best way to do that initially is (with) victim recovery dogs."

Police have not revealed what intelligence they have that leads them to the scrubland, which is a five-minute walk from the Algarve holiday complex where three-year-old Madeleine had been staying with her family.
The youngster disappeared from her family's apartment in the Ocean Club resort in May 2007.
She had been enjoying a holiday with her parents Kate and Gerry and younger siblings.
The renewed searches are a joint effort between the British and Portuguese police following a Metropolitan Police review of the case.
It is understood officers have been given permission to search two other sites in and around the town.

Because SY must have totally ignored Eddie and Keela. That must be why they are digging holes in PdL looking for dead bodies.

Maybe SY/PJ already have what they were looking for.
SY extends stay because PJ and SY want to finish this case together and welcome Gerry to Portugal on June 16.

As I replied to those other posters, the quote actually reads like this:
But Kate and Gerry McCann have decided to stay away, a close pal has revealed.
The friend said: “They welcome the new phase of the investigation and hope it may lead them a step closer to finding out what happened to their daughter. They will be kept informed by Scotland Yard of any developments but they have no intention of going there. It is the last place they would want to be while digging takes place.
“It will be a hugely emotional time for Madeleine’s parents but it is a scenario they know needs to happen. They will only go to Portugal, God forbid, if any remains matching her DNA were found.”
Something over nothing.

Don't think this has been posted before. Apologies if it has
A couple of interesting points I noticed upon reading this.
'Officers said they were looking for objects that may have been abandoned soon after the youngsters disappearance'
'Local media reported that bones had been discovered inside the cordon on Tuesday but later analysis revealed that belonged to cows and pigs.'

They warn the abductor through the media, that they're planning on digging soon, makes sense! And then secretly wait and watch in the night to see if he goes there to dig out the evidence, hoping to catch him in the act.
They do this usually? Warn in advance?

There was a very interesting Crimewatch a couple of years back called "Catch me if you can" where police did exactly that. They suspected the body was in a rough area so they staged a bit of a dig (announced it very loudly) then the police watched the culprit watch the diggers. He was understandably anxious in case they found it.
He then moved the body in the dead of night. The trap worked.

Early reports say the bones were either pigs or cows.

Was just guessing !
Only thing is they're still digging away probably for a week now, with their buckets and spades, so they can't be thinking that way. Just have to wait and see.
