[quote="Ayniiamaybe the PJ /GNR were so sloppy that that first night the "abductor " came back, got into the apartment while the officers were munching on sardines and smoking [/quote]

But there is an explanation for everything the police found, or did not find.
Part of the standard evidence planting kit issued on pass out from Training School includes human blood (or use your own if you choose to), a small rotting sea bass, and bunches of fibres of different colours and types, depending what the suspects say in their statements - (so difficult when suspects change their minds)
A small vial of human cadaverine is also included in the Detective Training kit, but is not issued to Uniform officers.
More Senior Officers are issued with explosive and firearms residues in handy "use once and throw away" sachets. The previous glass phials were found to be unreliable.
And a handwritten but unsigned all-purpose confession is carried at all times by all officers, in case of emergency.
Sorry, I know this is serious stuff, but this did make me actually laugh out loud... Partly because you can imagine Clarrie or the McScams coming out with something not so different

Re: The missing blanket
Just found this thread while looking for something else.
I didn't know that there had been an independent witness who saw a man carrying a child 'wrapped in a blanket', by the church, heading towards the beach on the night Madeleine went missing. Apparently the dogs detected the scent of death on this route.
Please see in first post.
This got me thinking. Jane Tanner said in her original statement that the child she saw being carried on the night was wrapped in a blanket. Did she later have to omit the blanket from her story as Madeleine WAS removed from the apartment and carried off towards the beach wrapped in a blanket?
I have little doubt that Madeleine was taken to a house/apartment/ building nearby and stored there until a proper plan was formulated. GM came back to the apartment with the blanket and placed it on the bed to set the scene that Madeleine didn't just wander off with her blanket, she was snatched quickly and taken. Imo.
I believe it is possible that the blanket disappeared due to the fact the McCann's realised that it had become contaminated as the dogs had picked up the scent of death on the route Madeleine's body HAD been taken. They probably destroyed it.
The blanket is perhaps central as one appears on a child being carried as seen by Jane Tanner. Oops JT dropped GM in it there. A blanket on another child being carried near the church as seen by an independent witness. Pink blanket on the bed, photographed by the PJ. Pink blanket on the shelf, as said by the McCann's . Pink blanket gone!
Due to the above reasoning I now think that the Smith sighting was a red herring, perhaps just an innocent father carrying his sleeping child home. The Smith sighting never really did seem to fit in well with the events that evening.

In this clip from 'Madeleine Was Here', Gerry talks about seeing Madeleine asleep with her toy and her blanket.
From the way he says it I am guessing it belonged to Madeleine and was her comforter.
At what point was it requested by the PJ?

I have read here 'dottyaussie' that that was actually a white fleece type cardigan that KM was carrying over her arm.
