It is arguable whether they have the right to life, let alone the right to vote

A person should not be allowed to have the privilege of having any say in the maintenance or development of a society from which they have already been removed. They gave up their right to do so from the moment they were convicted of a crime.

There will come a time when the Gamble approach to treating paedophiles at home and in the community will become obsolete.
Would we want thousands upon thousands of convicted incarcerated paedophiles voting on the age of sexual consent?
There was a point in Labour's history a couple of years ago where one was beginning to believe that we were moving towards a society that would no longer have any minimum age of sexual consent.

What about people convicted of harassing Brother Gerry McCann by suggesting Madeleine McCann is obviously dead, having a vote on free speech?

I saw this on the news earlier and John Hirst (jailhouselawyer) was being interviewed.

People who cannot behave like decent human beings should not have the right to any vote, this society is all about putting the rights of the criminals before the rights of the victims and is a disgrace imo.

Re: European Union orders child-killers like Ian Huntley and Roy Whiting to be given the right to vote
This is one of those silly questions.
Most people in prison are serving sentences meaning less than one year. There really would not be any point registering for a postal vote. De minimis non curat lex applies to David Cameron who said the idea makes him feel physically sick. Feel free to correct my spelling.
Of those serving 12 months or more, over half are too anti-social to do anything so community minded as vote. Arguably if you persuaded them to express a view on how society is run, that would be half the battle.
Like minorities in general, those prisoners who will vote, will mostly vote Labour, which is a paradox because the vast majority are, to put it mildly, enthusiastic adherents of free enterprise.
