GRAND TOTAL 11,782
As you can clearly see, there was not 30,000 pages released to the general public on the DVD. When Mrs Justice Hogg at the High Court of Justice talks about the 11,000 pieces of information, she is generalising IMO about the actual 11,782 pages that was in fact released on the DVD.
From ‘Case Files Released Portuguese Reports (1)’
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
“The process, which was archived on the 21st of July 2008, was made available during the afternoon today, and is composed of approximately 30 thousand pages, distributed over more than fifty volumes, appendixes, rogatory letters and reports, among other documents”.
From the PJ final report:
“Regarding the enormous scale of this investigation, one must note that it evolved into a main body of 17 volumes, and the further organisation of 55 volumes integrated into 9 appendices. In total, 12,000 pages and other relevant elements were examined and analysed. Besides this, 22 dossiers were also created, consisting of more than 5,000 pages that refer to fanciful and disproven theories/leads.”
From MY physical check on the DVD:
The total number of pages released on the DVD appears to be just over 11,000 pages, divided into these sections:
Processos - 17 volumes (4,713)
Carta Rogatories - 55 volumes divided into 9 appendices (548)
= which might be the 12,000 pages according to the PJ final report.
Apensos - 22 dossiers (6,521)
= which might be the 5,000 pages according to the PJ final report.
The figures in red represents the pages hand counted as seen on the DVD. You can clearly see that the Processo and Carta Rogatories is the section which seems to be where the missing pages are. The Processo and Carta Rogatories is supposed to come to a total of 12,000 pages, but the DVD for that section only contains 5,261.
The Apensos according to the PJ final report, contains approximately 5,000 pages, but the DVD for that section actually contains 6,521. Which is by far the most similar in comparison.
IMO, I think we can clearly see that it is the Processo and Carta Rogatories, in the main body of the process has 6,000 missing pages and I tend to think now, there is a whole other section completely missing.

interesting
thanks for this work....
all this written info, and much not released into the public domain...
a mountain of work... from a police force that were not doing enough to find a missing child.
I would laugh if it were not so serious.

Re: Missing pages from the released case files
I have just updated the first list with indications as to which volumes contain what information.
Having just cross referenced each section, with what is currently available to see on PJFiles, my initial analysis is fairly correct. I say fairly, because a lot of the pages inserted into the released files are blank, so in theory there is less pages released then the 11,782 that I have reported.
If roughly 11,000 out of the reported 30,000 pages have really been released, it means approximately two thirds have been witheld !!!!
We should bear this in mind when considering how much the PJ still have on them. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Admin, can you make this thread a sticky please.

Re: Missing pages from the released case files
Stella - do we have an official source to verify that the complete PJ report was 30000 pages long?
The link you put in your post ( from the Mccann files) is to an article from SOL. Is it possible that it is simply a mistake or a typo?
This is from the introduction to the final PJ report:
1- Introduction
Before actually entering the appreciation of the present inquiry, it is useful to take a summarised look at the enormous dimension of the inquiry which is constituted of 17 Volumes, with a global processing of approximately 4500 leafs, 9 appendixes that are integrated by 55 Volumes, in which 12000 leafs and other relevant pieces were gathered, analysed and treated; further 22 dossiers were constituted, with more than 5000 leafs, concerning fanciful or senseless news, yet organised out of mere caution.
I`m not suggesting for a moment that statements and other information has not been withheld. We are certain they have. But perhaps the discrepancy is not as much as the difference between 11000 odd items and 30000. If we look at the statement above that would suggest 16500 pages plus 5000 in the 22 dossiers of fanciful information.

Re: Missing pages from the released case files
Now this is very interesting Alison, let's see if we can get to the bottom of this claim about 30,000 pages. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I have found it mentioned in a C4 documentary.
"In the documentary, two former British police detectives investigating Madeleine's disappearance say they have found important new leads in the 30,000 case files released by Portuguese police last summer and now translated into English, at a cost of £100,000 to the Madeleine Fund".

Cutting Edge, Madeleine Was Here, 7 May 2009, C4
K: I don’t think so. It’s funny, cos, you know, going back a few years, if I hadn’t been in paid work, I’d have probably felt, a bit guilty. But, now, what I’m doing is the most important job that I’ll every have to do and I think my work is incredibly valuable.
Voice over: When the Portuguese police shelved the case last summer, they released 30,000 case files, K has spent the last six months going through every document.
K: The vast bulk of it was in Portuguese. So, we then, had to get it all translated, which probably cost us about £100,000. I don’t believe anybody’s got the motivation that I have and I was desperate to go through this myself, because I knew that I’d be going through it with a fine toothcomb and I have spent months and months and months and months going through it, evenings, weekends. You know, you wanna go through it really, really quickly because I wanted to get all the information I can and know what I can do, to help find her, as quickly as possible. So, obviously, I just worked really hard, just to get through it. Often, you know, police do say the name’s in the files. It was always there, but you just need other bits of information, really, to come in to basically highlight the name. At the moment, there isn’t a big arrow and an astrix (sic) by the name.

Re: Missing pages from the released case files
Stella - thanks for posting these reports. But we are still largely in the area of press statements. I presume that the PJ`s original work was scanned onto a DVD ( not sure how it`s done!)?
Is it possible that the pages on the DVD are longer than the original paper pages?

Re: Missing pages from the released case files
Yes Alison, so far, all I can see is the press and tv claiming 30K pages. Nothing coming out of anything from Portugal yet.
As for longer pages, I very much doubt it. I know that the American's A4 page size is slightly shorter and slightly wider than UK A4, but I don't know about Portugal. France have the same size as UK A4 paper and from what I have seen on the DVD, it looks to me like Portugal probably have the same size pages as the UK too.

Re: Missing pages from the released case files
So, St Kate wants us to believe that she has waded through 30 thousand pages of the report does she.....pull the other one. She could not bother to go and look for M saying 'we have worked so hard' perhaps that is what she was referring to? Sorry, imo another BIG FAT LIE! I hope the Portuguese DO have more evidence on them. I do not know why they have kept that secret but they must have a reason. Didn't Mr Amaral refer to the missing pages in his book? Isn't the second book, due out, supposed to be quite revealing?
This whole case reminds me of the true case in America of the little 6 yr old girl who was being tutored to be a fashion model....'An American Murder, on channel 253 ID. Jon Benet...still on and about 4 more of the series to go'. Has anyone been watching it? So many similarities and the parents are in the frame for their bizarre behaviour just like the McCanns, except that in this case she was found strangled in their own basement. Only the parents on the premises apart from the daughter and little son.

Such a lot of work gone in to finding all the missing pages. Someone has done a LOT of research, so thanks from me, no doubt there have been others.
