Maybe Kate's got one of those strings attached to her lip that makes her do this:

Ah well. I love how Richard D. Hall says "puppets", though -

Interesting to revisit this Mail story from Feb 2013 in view of Rowell’s sacking yesterday.

Leveson, the police and a gag on whistleblowers that threatens democracy

By [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , POLICE AND CRIME COMMISSIONER FOR SURREY

‘So I find the latest arrest alarming, particularly because no money, no corrupt payment, was apparently involved.
Now I’m not going to get bogged down in the right and wrongs of an individual case — there may still turn out to be good reasons why Rowell has been arrested.
Yet the clandestine passing of information to the Press by concerned whistleblowers is one of the main ways that significant wrong-doings, particularly in the public sector, become widely known.’

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Yesterdays Met Police Press release:

Following a Misconduct Hearing lasting six days, Detective Chief Superintendent Andrew Rowell was today [16 January] dismissed without notice from the Metropolitan Police Service.

The panel, consisting of two senior officers and one lay member, carefully considered all of the evidence put before them and found the case of gross misconduct proven.

In total the panel heard evidence in relation to six allegations. Of the six allegations the case was found proven in four and not proven in two .

The case of gross misconduct against DCS Rowell was found proved, that his behaviour lacked honesty and integrity, that he had abused his position and his behaviour could have brought discredit on the police service. The panel heard evidence that DCS Rowell kept a copy of a statement, which included sensitive details from a serious crime investigation. He then allowed a journalist to see it and photograph it.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Fiona Taylor, of the Directorate of Professional Standards said "Andy Rowell had a long and successful career, rising to the rank of Detective Chief Superintendent, he was respected by staff across the organisation as well as the community he worked with. He let all of those people down when he took the decision to leak police information in a significant and sensitive case - going against everything that he knew would have been the correct thing to do. His actions lacked the integrity required to be a police officer."

So no money involved and his behaviour ‘could have brought discredit on the police service’.

Now that he has been kicked out, I wonder whether we will get his side of the story, (on my assumption that it was an attempt at whistleblowing, rather than just stupidity) or will he be tied up with the Official Secrets Act and Confidentiality Agreements etc?

A leading member of the notorious Paedophile Information Exchange, which campaigned to legalise child sex in the 1970s and 80s, has joined the supporters of the media pressure group Hacked Off.
Tom O’Carroll, a former Open University information officer and formerly a key activist for PIE, attended a Hacked Off rally in the Houses of Parliament on February 25 to lobby MPs for state involvement in media regulation.
The organisation, set up in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal, is campaigning against what it sees as the ‘biased and unfair’ Independent Press Standards Organisation.
It wants MPs to set up a statutory body to regulate the press, as recommended by the Leveson Inquiry.
The news that O’Carroll is a backer of Hacked Off will be an embarrassment to the group.
PIE was formed in 1974 to campaign for sex with children to be legalised and formed an alliance with the National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL).
The NCCL lobbied parliament for the age of sexual consent to be cut to ten as long as the child 'understood the nature of the act' and apparently consented.
The group also wanted incest to be legalised.
O'Carroll was on the NCCL's gay rights sub-committee. The 69-year-old was jailed in 1981 for ‘corrupting public morals’.
He wrote a blog after the February meeting, chaired by comedian John Cleese, confirming his attendance.
A Hacked Off spokesman said that the meeting was ‘open to and free for all members of the public to attend’.

The whole thing becomes more weird as time goes on.
Or perhaps not.
Only those with things to hide demand privacy and secrecy and censorship.

Ref. red highlighting.    Yes I believe that too.

Have to say that if I had been a member of Hacked Off and having read the above article, I would discontinue membership PRONTO.

And if you were the parent of a genuinely abducted child and discovered that some of your supporters were perverts who made indecent images of young women drowning in swamps, or that other supporters were apologists for incestuous murderers of the own daughter / niece, and were serving a long term of imprisonment for that crime, and a further long term for committing perjury about being beaten by the officer who brought them to justice, and if you also discovered that some of your supporters had prepared a lying "Dossier" which had lead to the death by apparent suicide of a Pensioner . . .

Would you not at least issue a statement through your highly paid press manipulator distancing yourself from this . . .?

He does have a remarkably flat head. And his nose does appear to be getting longer, Pinocchio-style!

Hi it will not be long before the Pink one will give his tuppence worth about the Yorkshire Ripper headlines in the Sun!
I wonder if the McCann family are to complain to the press association, which is their right to do so after these headlines have appeared and will no doubt ask for the apology to be put on the Front page, as part of any retraction?
If they are offended that is their way challenge this article!?
