Sherborne re McCanns to Lord Leveson at Leveson enquiry 24.7.12
[from The Guardian]
Today, Sherborne made this impassioned plea to the Leveson enquiry (see Guardian live blog):
QUOTE
The very real damage they are doing to people, particular the McCanns, this lasted months and months despite the fact the McCanns were begging the PCC and anyone else who would listen to stop this kind of reporting...[It is a] failure to take into account the human dimension of these stories which were just too good to resist.
UNQUOTE
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the PCC [Press Complaints Commission] offer to help the McCanns - and didn't the McCanns then refuse their kind offer?

They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Sharp or blunt?
Thank you candyfloss for finding that.
I thought Leveson was supposed to have a sharp mind?
So why didn't he immediatley interrupt Sherborne and point out to him that he was utterly mistaken in believing that the McCanns 'were begging the PCC for help'?

...It emerged at the weekend that Ms Patry Hoskins, 40, and Mr Sherborne, 44, holidayed on the island of Santorini to “discuss the possibility of a future relationship” days after the conclusion of the inquiry’s evidence stage...

They must be the only couple on the planet to go on holiday together "to discuss the possibility of a relationship". Anyone who believes that story must have had a lobotomy. What a pair of disingenuous, slippery eels they are, but no more than can be expected from lawyers I suppose.

Apparently they told friends they went on holiday "to discuss the possibility of a relationship" And, of course, as friends do, they went straight to the media with that info. Perhaps they need an official spokesman.

Maybe they should borrow from the Mccanns their official mouthpiece.

Pathetic explanation imo and if that's the best they can offer as an explanation there might be potential clients who would think twice about using them. I know I would.

Such kind of lawyers are most suitable for seedy clients because they are never short of excuses, even excuses of the most ridiculous and braindead kind.

Which they stick to, even when the overwhelming evidence is against them.aiyoyo wrote:

And then have the gall to enter a plea in mitigation when their client is found guilty of the offence, and incidentally of having lied throughout the trial.
And they get paid for this.

That is absolutely hilarious right up there with Private Eye's recurring in joke of "discussing Ugandan affairs".
So they holidayed in Greece together simply to talk about the possibility of having a relationship? And not actually having one whilst there.
Righto!
** EDIT**
Just seen Peter Macs earlier repsonse! Great minds and all that.
That phrase should now enter the lexicon for having a bit of nookie on the side.
That use of words has made a dull Tuesday more bearable. I'm still chuckling now over it.
The sheer chutzpah of these people! Have they no shame?

What is certain is that since the start of the investigation there were incongruent and even contradictory situations concerning the witness statements; the telephone records of calls that were made and received on mobile phones that belonged to the couple and to the group of friends that were on holidays with them; the movements of people right after the disappearance of the little girl was noticed, concerning the state in which the bedroom from where the child disappeared from was found (closed window? open window? partially open window?) etc., and the mystery would only become even thicker due to the clues that were left by the already mentioned sniffer dogs. - The Words of a JUDGE in relation to the McCanns

Talking about Private Eye and their joke about Ugandan activities. This little gem is repeated on the front page of their on-line edition right now: Maggie And Eye "She was remarkably non-judgmental about her colleagues' sexual peccadilloes, though could also be disarmingly naive. I recall her once snatching a copy of the hated Private Eye, in which I'd been reading about the Ugandan activities of a prominent member of her party. She handed it back triumphantly: 'It's completely untrue, I know for a fact he's never been to Uganda'." Charles Powell, Private Secretary to Margaret Thatcher, Guardian, 9 April |

'discuss the possibility of a future relationship' holidays....
-do you think it will catch on? Are business-hungry tour operators hastily re-naming their singles/couples/adults only holidays at this very moment? Is this a whole new concept in marketing?
Plus, how about a new genre for romantic novelists-the ultimate will they/won't they scenario.......a section somewhere between romance and fairy stories? Haha All IMO,of course!

"Well he would, wouldn't he"
Yes he would but it wont save his enquiry from being mauled by the press at every opportunity. The papers are watching and waiting.
Miss Patry Hoskins - are we supposed to be impressed with the double barrelled surname.
The name always reminds me of Mr. Pastry who was a slapstick entertainer.
