Re: SY ANNOUNCEMENT 2pm 4/7/13
Does anyone believe that the SY would say on television that the McCanns and their friends were suspects or persons of interest. They certainly are not going to name anyone else on TV either. BTW, even if SY had come to the conclusion that there was an abduction, it would be natural for them to interview the family and friends to see if there was any information to be found or any connection. I find it strange that they emphasise the fact that they are not interviewing them.

It had the top slot on PM this evening ahead of Egypt problems.
Quite a lengthy piece including an interview with Mark Williams-Thomas.
Please did anyone listen to the interview? If so, what was said? I can't be dealing with listening to MW-T's ramblings tonight.
Don`t blame you!
Dannie Shaw said MET had come up with new theories, new thinking, new witnesses and new evidence. they`ve done some interviews in UK but now need to launch full investigation. Their immeidate task is to investigate 38 people who are not necessairly suspects but just need to get more information about them. 12 in Portugal at the time, rest from 4 other countries including Portugal. No plans for imminent arrests and police emphasising that none of these people are K&G or their friends or people they knew before they went - none of these are suspects. For the people in UK there`s no problem for the MET interviewing them but there is for the people in the other 4 countries so they need assistance from the authorities of those countries. They`ve have the assistance from Portugal.
Mark W-T said sadly a lot of this information was available in 2010 when CEOP did a scoping exercise. The PJ only collected information in a sporadic way - didn`t have Holmes Database; it was all done on paper. MET have now got K&G`s Private Investigator`s information, UK police information and PJ information. The key is how will the UK police work with PJ. The PJ have had the info of the 38 leads passed to them and at this stage don`t think it warrants re-opening. Let`s be clear, let`s not under estimate the quality of the British Police - effectively the British Police are saying to Portugal `we don`t feel you did this investigation well enough, we`ve got the skills and the expertise to assist in this and therefore we want to help`. They`ll be looking at sex offenders because we know at the time the PJ didn`t interview sex offenders and there`s the cell phone analysis which was collected by the UK police and given to PJ but PJ didn`t analyse it. UK police have analysed it and are trying to identify people from it. There`s no greater evidence to suggest she`s alive than there is to suggest she`s dead.

Re: SY ANNOUNCEMENT 2pm 4/7/13
So if the MET are looking at sex offenders how can they justify the cadaver odour on the key fob of the hire car the McCanns had. Are they actually saying that the PJ planted all this evidence, because they seem to be totally ignoring it in my mind.
As I said in another thread, they are actually inferring that the PJ have lied and that G Amaral has lied in his book.
Again, what about the Amaral trial, if it goes ahead will the McCanns be called as witnesses, or have SY put a stop to it going ahead at all. Questions, questions still wanting answers!!

That's MW-T's interpretation and we know he's a rent-a-gob whose tunes are dictated not by himself.

So what are the odds on our illuminati government/SY/Mi5 saying who done it...
Raymond Hewlett is 1/33 (note the "33" when you pay your bet via your RFID chip)
After Hillsborough, Stephen Lawrence, Jill Dando, phone hacking. 7/7 etc, I have soooo much confidence in SY

Re: SY ANNOUNCEMENT 2pm 4/7/13
Its a non issue and was obviously going to happen. Anyone with any sense who has been following the 'incident' from 2007 on the Mirror Forum could see what was going on.
I think an earlier poster mentioned that SY are basically going to obtain exactly what the Portuguese have, triage and put a D notice on it.
Unfortunately in alot of investigations the detectives are given a pre determined outcome from higher up the food chain. Dont doubt for a minute that SY know what happened. Its out of their hands.

In a nutshell, the Press are saying Maddie IS alive, her parents and T7 not in the frame.
They are either quoting or deducing this info from the MET Police, putting two and two together and got five.
This is THE break through that is Breaking News!
Couldn't get better this Circle!

Re: SY ANNOUNCEMENT 2pm 4/7/13
Why did the Home Office believe it to be worthwhile widening the scope and budget to pursue 38 people of interest?
Would this lead to an imminent arrest of someone?
26 are non Brits that any intended interview of them would require the seeking of Mutual Legal Assistance. Meaning obtaining rogatory letters from the respective judiciary authorities. Allegedly it was reported that the CPS had submitted a letter of request to the Portuguese Judiciary (note- the Portuguese did not confirm this) but surely not all the 26 are portuguese!
The Yard detectives made 16 visits to Portugal and the outcome? 38 new people of interests spread all over Europe!
Is this the break through that merits extending the longevity of the review!
Does any of this make any sense?
Whitewash? Quite a big roundabout way to do bleach it that legally won't hold any weight in Portugal thus cannot be recognised by the Portuguese.
It's not an open and shut case where the MET's verdict on its Review is the "be all and end all"; so long as the case is not closed by the Portuguese.

"new witness evidence" is there an old one too?
not a new statement, a changed statement but a WITNESS EVIDENCE.
Who could this witness be? From the Tapas? Or one of the 3 extra Tapas, about whom Moita Flores talked?
This person must have seen the corpse.

Considering the huge amount of pages examed by the Yard, those 38 are pinuts. The intention of the Met is to eliminate those 38 and to turn themselves to the Tapas.
They have to clean up the road, till they arrive to the group.
Trust them, they know what they are doing.

But seen the corpse is not enough, I realise now. it is no evidence .There must be a concrete something.

Re: SY ANNOUNCEMENT 2pm 4/7/13
Morning all,
Rare poster but daily lurker here. When the news broke yesterday, I had to abandon this site due to a multitude of thoughts combined with massive anger regarding the statement.
During the evening my mood gradually improved, and my thoughts are Scotland Yards actions/intent can only be explained by one of the following:
- As mentioned many times, someone or something is being protected which will result in a massive whitewash, for which Redwood was laying the foundations to the public yesterday.
- They have new genuine leads which none of us could forsee in a million years. Who knows what the undisclosed PJ files contain.
- Its a game of poker, and the cards are being held close to the chest for good reason. All leads / evidence / persons of interest will be rounded up, evidence gathered until the case is concrete and finally the tapas along with Geraldine & Kate are rounded up for justice to be served.
That is all I can conclude, though I would be fascinated to hear the views of Petermac, or indeed anyone else who may have a strong inside knowledge of the police / cps.

AN Irish couple could hold key evidence in a fresh investigation launched into the disappearance of British child Madeleine McCann.
A two-year review of the case documents by British detectives has been upgraded to a full investigation into the youngster's unexplained disappearance.

Evidence provided at the time by members of the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] family, from Maple Drive, Drogheda, Co Louth, was considered credible by the review officers.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and his wife Mary revealed to investigators how they saw a man carrying a young child through the streets of Praia da Luz in Portugal on the night Madeleine went missing.
She disappeared on May 3, 2007, from her family's apartment on the Algarve.
The Smith family told police how they had left Kelly's Bar in the resort at around 10pm
They then passed a man walking down the middle of the street who was carrying a girl aged about three to four years old.
It was claimed that the child's head was lying against the man's left shoulder and her arms were hanging down alongside her body.
Madeleine was almost four when she was reported missing by parents Gerry and Kate McCann.
The Smiths returned home the day after the incident and it was only after they had seen the media reports of Madeleine's disappearance that they noted the encounter's significance. They later travelled back to Portugal to give police a statement.
So far, the review team has examined more than 30,000 documents generating almost 4,000 fresh lines of inquiry, but still have one-third of the information to examine.

Carole Malone was balanced and measured but forthright as usual. I recall her commenting about the changing number of leads and persons of interest. She agreed with her fellow opinion-giver that the Portuguese handling initially was not as good as it should have been, she remarked upon the yo-yoing of raised hopes for the parents. She also commented upon the sensational and inaccurate tabloids' front page headlines, saying that there is no way police can believe that she is alive, just that she may be alive as police stated; that just because there is no clear evidence of death, she can't be considered definitively alive as tabloids stated, that of course everyone wants her to be alive but that her fate remains unknown.
She reserved her scathing comments for the tabloid trash and the cost of the review, saying that she guessed the police decided who was important or words to that effect.

I remember Amaral saying just before he was removed from the investigation that the Smiths were just about to be brought back to Portugal, so maybe that's where the Brit investigation is up to now.

Was he even allowed to bring them in to be questioned ? It could only be the case surely........... how could they give a credible account based on what we have read?
Yes but what did he say before that? The clip was very clearly edited to give it a certain slant.
Don't know Shubob, I thought at the time how I would have liked to see that interview in its entirety. It was edited on every news channel to look as if DCI Redwood was giving a statement, although it appeared to me that he was being interviewed. If that was the case then he was asked I would guess immediately after mentioning the 38 persons of interest, whether McCanns and pals were on that list.
I am not saying that it is the case that they are but Redwood was saying otherwise, it could well be that they are not. What I do claim from my position of ignorance re police procedure is that imo if they were, he could and would not say so to the media, given the very clear request that the media behave properly as things unfold, so as not to jeopardise the investigation.
Can you imagine what the media reaction would have been, had Redwood confirmed yes of course they are, they have to be, the last people to see the child were from that group.
Given the way the news outlets reacted to the answer that they were not.......it beat Mandela and Egypt to the top spot yesterday, there would have been reporters swarming around all over the locations where the 9 live. That would never be allowed to happen, given that SY need the media to behave.
That they are likely not to, in the opinion of SY, indicates to me that they expect to be releasing some rather surprising if not shocking news along the way.
All I know for sure is that the Met said they would act as if the abduction occurred in the UK and UK police procedures when an abduction of a vulnerable person is reported are very clear and the parents and friends need interviewing.
If they have been eliminated based on honest police procedures, there must have been things in unpublished files which have pointed elsewhere.
They still all lied at some point though and the question remains why.
I hope DW was asked why she thought the group were " playing one of their games" evening 3rd May.

I think the police have the McCanns in their sights but it isn't an iron-clad case. Certain newspapers are desperate to bring down the McCanns and this worries the MET who don't want the press to reveal anything that could jeopardise the investigation. They call a press conference.
Journalists and editors are told in no uncertain terms what they must not say and why. Then they are given a vague statement about the progress of the case and a few ambiguous quotes that they can use to create headlines all of which point away from the McCanns' guilt.
The press are now in heaven - they have today's headlines and, if all goes to plan, they'll have months of top-selling news with the added bonus of an "How We Helped The Police Catch The McCann's" editorial.
If this is to cover up some huge dark secret that must never be discussed, why not just slap D notices on the McCanns and their cronies? If this is a whitewash, it is massively incompetent and I cannot see how they will stop it blowing up in their faces eventually.
This is just my opinion of course

If this is a whitewash I don't understand why the MET have reopened a case that was already shelved in another country just to cover it up again at great cost to this country that is in recession. Why not just leave it shelved in Portugal?

Considering the huge amount of pages examed by the Yard, those 38 are pinuts. The intention of the Met is to eliminate those 38 and to turn themselves to the Tapas.
They have to clean up the road, till they arrive to the group.
Trust them, they know what they are doing.
I have to agree with you on this one marconi and I found this bit of nugget interesting from one of the interviews
That review has now been upgraded to a full-scale investigation with those in charge admitting they have a number of fresh theories about what happened to Madeleine after she disappeared from her parents’ holiday apartment on the Algarve on 3 May 2007.
So according to this the parents and tapas are not suspects at this moment in time, they are getting rid of all the dead wood before lighting the match !!!
Exactly how it should be IMHO !

Snipped from Mail:
This is the first we have heard of any deal to co-operate with the British police, and to be frank I don’t know how it is going to work'

But sources within Portugal’s detective unit, the Policia Judiciaria, branded the inquiry as ‘political b*******’ that won’t work.
One senior detective told the Daily Mail: ‘This is the first we have heard of any deal to co-operate with the British police, and to be frank I don’t know how it is going to work

I agree with your interpretation of yesterday's statement. I also believe he was calling for restraint in all forms of media even fora perhaps.

Police prepare to swoop: Scotland Yard has launched a 'last chance' investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann
Arrests in the Madeleine McCann case could be made within weeks by Scotland Yard detectives investigating 38 suspects.
Officers were last night preparing to swoop on individuals ‘scattered across Europe’ after announcing a full criminal probe.
They are enlisting the help of colleagues in five countries, including Britain and Portugal, to detain 38 ‘persons of interest’.
Among them are a dozen British nationals who were either visiting or living in the Algarve when Madeleine vanished in 2007.
Investigators said they had no prime suspect but had identified ‘genuinely new’ leads after a two-year, £5million review. They are convinced the three-year-old was abducted by a stranger and have uncovered no evidence that she was murdered.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, who is leading the inquiry, said: ‘We continue to believe that there is a possibility that Madeleine is alive.’
Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate, as well as their travelling friends known as the ‘Tapas Seven’, have all been ruled out as suspects.
The McCanns ‘warmly welcomed’ the decision to step up the police inquiry from a review to a full-blooded inquiry.
Their spokesman said: ‘They see it as a huge step forward in establishing what happened.’

DCI Redwood said: "There is no clear, definitive proof that Madeleine McCann is dead.
"On that basis I genuinely believe there is a possibility she is still alive. And so I would like to ask the public to continue to look for her."
Of all the tortuous statements made about this case over the years, this has to be one of the oddest.
"There is no clear, definite proof that MMcC is dead"
indicates that, to the contrary, proof does exist, it just isn't clear or definitive. He only needed to follow that up with "Therefore I believe it's possible she is alive" but for some reason he needs to add his personal, genuine belief. Despite this genuine belief she is alive "And so I would like to ask the public to continue to look for her" is a statement very much lacking in conviction, almost like something he would have to say, having made the previous 2 statements.
The SY announcement that none of the T9 are on the list of persons of interest to the enquiry was made in an attempt to prevent speculation that they were on the list, which they clearly expected. It is highly likely the McCs were informed of the announcement that SY were formally taking over the investigation and not inconceivable that they, or their legal reps would insist on a statement of that nature being included, given the McCs high media profile, albeit of their own making.
Either 1) SY genuinely believe in their innocence so are looking elsewhere, or 2) are testing every single possible hypothesis fully before looking at the T9 if the other 38 are ruled out. It seems inconceivable that they would waste time, effort and money pursuing 2) unless they really believe the group were not involved. If this does turn out to be an extremely costly whitewash to protect the great and the good who backed the McCs in the heady days of summer 2007, it simply will not work.
There is obfuscation and inconsistency in the witness statements of the T9 and no evidence whatsoever of abduction. Public suspicion regarding the group will not go away until it has been demonstrated WHY they are not persons of interest in this child's disappearance. The reasoning behind their being ruled out, contrary to the equally genuine belief of the PJ, which was based on the self same evidence as that which SY has "reviewed" would have to be demonstrated and convincing before people will be able to accept that SY is right and the PJ were wrong.
Having said all this, I don't believe the T9 are ruled out but as my old granny used to say, it seems a very long road for a short cut.
