What I find interesting is this: "Mr Redwood told the BBC's Panorama programme, being shown on Wednesday night, that his team of 28 detectives and seven civilian support staff" . Have these "seven" been carrying out a reconstruction of what happened, based on what the T7 said in their interviews? Just a thought!

Hmmm....

Couple of things immediately spring to mind here so just going to put them out there...

1) Yes, of course it's possible she's still alive somewhere as no dead body has been discovered to prove otherwise (though the cadaver odour issue will still be there until irrefutable explanation for E &K's markings comes to light)

2) If the police can publicly state that this is a possibility, after all these years and against the odds, is it based on hope or a real "lead".

3) If based on a real "lead", why are they not acting on it more covertly? What good would it do to say so or even participate in a documentary at their stage? Why are they wanting to influence public opinion at this stage and under this particular set of circumstances?

4) Are they thinking she could be alive in the company of a stranger, or with someone connected to the family somehow? (Remember Logic man's theory?)

Making comments in the press before the official conclusion of the review seems a highly irregular move by the police, and why no Clarence Mitchell quote saying how the McCanns welcome Panorama's forthcoming programme. Has he been abducted by aliens?

Maybe I am being negative however I am smelling whitewash in the air.

I come back to this "closure for the family" line which is entirely outwith what any impartial investigative team's remit.

I wonder do these guys have an unspoken remit to create the most plausible theory from the facts available in an attempt to lay this to rest once and for all? A theory that leaves Team McCann free?

And let us all be clear, and state on the record, if Madeleine is alive she MUST be found as soon as possible.
Not after 100 days, the First anniversary party, 1000 days, the publication of the book, the publication of the paperback, or the second screening of the Panorama programme.
She must be recovered NOW.
And to that end every penny donated by the public, and every million given by the government, (which amounts to the same thing) must be directed to the search.
Not one cent should be used for any other purpose whatsoever.
No lawyers, no publicity, no mortgage, no trips to Rome, no trips to the USA, nothing else except the Search.
Which reminds me, Kate, where did you search that first night ?
Just so we don't waste money or time going over old ground, you understand.

Perhaps the mistake he made is in not having them in again for interview before they fled. He may indeed be kicking himself for missing that opportunity.

I doubt is that is her. She has a coloboma.

But she looks a sensible, educated, well dressed and well brought-up girl.
Sufficiently sensible and educated to mention to someone as she is paraded round Nerja, Alhaurin, Huelva, or Morocco that the kind gentle loving Pae*** person she is with is not her father. (Is she always with a man ?)
She can presumably do this in English, and in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or whatever language they speak at the school she attends.

Detectives release age progression pic of Madeleine McCann

Detectives believe there is a possibility that Madeleine McCann is still alive.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service conducting the investigative review into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are releasing an age progression image of her as we approach her ninth birthday on 12 May.

The image has been created in close collaboration with the family and is being released ahead of the fifth anniversary of her disappearance on 3 May. It shows how we believe Madeleine would look today

The release comes as detectives announce that as a result of evidence uncovered during the review they now believe there is a possibility Madeleine is still alive and are appealing for anyone who is able to provide direct information as to her whereabouts to contact the team.

The investigative review commenced in May 2011 under the leadership of the then commissioner, Sir Paul Stephens. A murder team within the Homicide and Serious Crime Command was tasked to conduct the review and is led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood acting to Detective Chief Superintendent Hamish Campbell and Commander Simon Foy.

Work of the team involves close collaboration with a senior investigating officer from the Policia Judaria and detectives have been to Portugal several times.

Throughout the course of the review officers have been in close contact with the McCann family who have been assigned a Family Liaison Officer as is standard in accordance with national family liaison policy.

The review team are in a unique position in that their task is to compile and review material from three separate strands - the Portuguese investigation, inquiries by UK law enforcement agencies, and the work of private investigators/agencies.

Officers are now methodically going through that material which they believe amounts to around 40,000 pieces of information equating to approximately 100,000 pages.

The intention is to identify from that material investigative opportunities which we will then present to the Portuguese authorities who retain primacy for the investigation. Officers have so far identified around 195 such opportunities within the historic material, and are also developing what they believe to be genuinely new material.

The objective of the review team is to work with the Portuguese authorities with a view to having the case, which has remained closed since 2008, re-opened in due course.

DCI Andy Redwood said: “From the outset we have approached this review with a completely open mind, placing Madeleine McCann at the heart of everything we do. We are working on the basis of two possibilities here. One is that Madeleine is still alive; and the second that she is sadly dead.

“Based on the former we are releasing the age progression image today with a specific appeal.

“If you know where Madeleine McCann is now or you have new direct information/evidence about what has happened to her then please contact us.

“The second point of appeal today is in relation to those who were at the resort of Praia da Luz between 28 April and 3 May 2007. If you were either on holiday or in residence in the resort during this period, particularly in the vicinity of the Ocean Club, and you have not been spoken to by police either here or in Portugal then please call us on 0800 0961011 if you are within the UK. russiandoll, you have mentioned the mistranslation of the statements a couple of times now, where are you getting this from. Surely you are not talking about the tweets and things said by the "pros"

yes that was exactly it. I was wondering where are they getting their "facts" that people would deliberately mislead, with an agenda, due to wanting to compromise a couple they have never met. I do not buy these phoney translation claims any more than a fit- up by a professional police force. I just wondered does anyone know why pros say these things? Make no sense to me...

and aiyoyo it would be like panorama to edit this from GA and take it out of context..he probably was referring to being too damned soft at the start and not having the support to stand their ground with the media and interference.and of course there are errors in any major investigation. Good on him for being decent and frank, but I bet only an edited version of what he said his shown, to suit the panorama agenda.
panorama agenda does not concern me, or the effect it might have on pulic opinion. what matters is SY integrity, silence about operational issues and that they investigate all plausible theories which fit with FACTS and try as stated to solve this case.

It will be interesting to see how they tackle the evidence (or should that be intelligence) of the dogs. Not sure how they can justify wasting police time and taxpayers money scouring the globe, without a logical explanation as to why the dogs alerted to cadavar odour in the apartment and the car.

All very ambiguous imo. On one hand he is saying she could be alive OR sadly dead, then saying they have unearthed evidence she could be alive. Doh!!
