These breaking news updates are sounding increasingly stupid.
Two possibilities : she is either dead or alive - well that's bloody obvious and no different to the last 5 years.
If they have any evidence that she is alive, (evidence assumed to be proof) then they MUST know, and therefore why reveal this, not just go and get her?
If they have evidence she is still alive, why be continuing to appeal to the public.
What a load of rubbish, regurgitated year after year. Makes me think they have nothing new and are trying to wildly justify the multi million pound review.
Sounding more rubbish with every update/tweet/quote.

no justice for Madeleine Beth Mccann[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
would not read too much into that, she is a possibly abducted child and all families get a liaison officer. They are starting with an open mind, so she has to be considered as possibly abducted and also alive, hence the photo. Unless she is confirmed deceased, she is possibly not.. they have to release an age progressed photo in those cirumstances I would think

Thinking it through, they are paving the way for the re-opening of the case imo. Now, they can hardly say they know whodunnit and have suspects etc., so this.... she could be alive or sadly dead..... and the new evidence, is being put out there to stop the frenzy and speculation when the case is reopened.

agreed candyloss, they are urging the Portuguese authorities to reopen it according to Sky News and given Redwood's earlier quote ....
But he said if the case is to be reopened, it is up to the Portuguese police.
"It is a sovereign decision for the Portuguese authorities. But obviously what we seek to do is to bring them the best quality information to assist them in making that decision."

Detectives release age progression pic of Madeleine McCann
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Detectives believe there is a possibility that Madeleine McCann is still alive.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service conducting the investigative review into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are releasing an age progression image of her as we approach her ninth birthday on 12 May.
The image has been created in close collaboration with the family and is being released ahead of the fifth anniversary of her disappearance on 3 May. It shows how we believe Madeleine would look today
The release comes as detectives announce that as a result of evidence uncovered during the review they now believe there is a possibility Madeleine is still alive and are appealing for anyone who is able to provide direct information as to her whereabouts to contact the team.
The investigative review commenced in May 2011 under the leadership of the then commissioner, Sir Paul Stephens. A murder team within the Homicide and Serious Crime Command was tasked to conduct the review and is led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood acting to Detective Chief Superintendent Hamish Campbell and Commander Simon Foy.
Work of the team involves close collaboration with a senior investigating officer from the Policia Judaria and detectives have been to Portugal several times.
Throughout the course of the review officers have been in close contact with the McCann family who have been assigned a Family Liaison Officer as is standard in accordance with national family liaison policy.
The review team are in a unique position in that their task is to compile and review material from three separate strands - the Portuguese investigation, inquiries by UK law enforcement agencies, and the work of private investigators/agencies.
Officers are now methodically going through that material which they believe amounts to around 40,000 pieces of information equating to approximately 100,000 pages.
The intention is to identify from that material investigative opportunities which we will then present to the Portuguese authorities who retain primacy for the investigation. Officers have so far identified around 195 such opportunities within the historic material, and are also developing what they believe to be genuinely new material.
The objective of the review team is to work with the Portuguese authorities with a view to having the case, which has remained closed since 2008, re-opened in due course.
DCI Andy Redwood said: “From the outset we have approached this review with a completely open mind, placing Madeleine McCann at the heart of everything we do. We are working on the basis of two possibilities here. One is that Madeleine is still alive; and the second that she is sadly dead.
“Based on the former we are releasing the age progression image today with a specific appeal.
“If you know where Madeleine McCann is now or you have new direct information/evidence about what has happened to her then please contact us.
“The second point of appeal today is in relation to those who were at the resort of Praia da Luz between 28 April and 3 May 2007. If you were either on holiday or in residence in the resort during this period, particularly in the vicinity of the Ocean Club, and you have not been spoken to by police either here or in Portugal then please call us on 0800 0961011 if you are within the UK. The number for non-UK residents is +44 2071580 126. Alternatively if you do not want to speak to us directly you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Based on the above, it looks as though the phantom search continues.

I wonder do these guys have an unspoken remit to create the most plausible theory from the facts available in an attempt to lay this to rest once and for all? A theory that leaves Team McCann free?
Looking more like a Last Hope for a clean whitewash!.
Thing is, if this documentry was clever enough and if the SY even wanted to find out the real truth they could use it as a change to pressure the T9 to come forward and end this case now!
Why would they pay out for a new photo to be made of here at 9 years old AND release it if they where not planning on continuing the abduction line over anything else. Will they explain the rationale and how they have discounted the Dogs inditications and T9 statement flaws?

I believe, in the same way that PJ/Amaral had to claim she was 'alive' at 5.30pm May 3rd, even though they were asking if the McCanns used a car throughout the holiday and claiming Madeleine's bed was not used...SY have to give equal opportunity to both sides until a formal decision is made.
I am an optimist but I believe in justice.
Panorama wasn't moved forward so they could release the new picture of Madeleine....preparing the public keeps coming to mind.

Well I've just read all the articles in the papers.
Firstly, not one mentioned the words 'abduction', 'kidnapped' or even 'snatched; rather 'disappeared' and 'vanished'
I found this statement interesting from Redwood:
"We are here in terms of bringing closure to the case. Closure means establishing what has happened to Madeleine"
When asked to clarify by interviewer - "In terms of being resolved?"
Redwood said;
"Resolved, yes"
Strangely, it was also intimated that the Metodo3 'evidence' when put together with PJ/SY/LP documents, was 'building up the jigsaw' - now, I thought SY had already dismissed the 'eight very important leads' as useless? SO imo this can mean one of two things;
1)Resolution by confirmation of original investigations conclusions. OR
2)A convenient patsy is being arranged.
I just cannot, in any way, shape or form after reading all the evidence and statements accept that Maddie was snatched by a predator or predators unknown. Nor, do I believe she is alive.
Therefore, the only conclusion I can reach is similar (not identical) to Amaral and the first PJ team, Lee Rainbow et al.
I just pray that Maddie gets her justice. Fake justice would be an insult to her memory and worse than none at all.

Redwood said he "genuinely" believed Madeleine could be alive, though the team is following an equal line of inquiry that she might now be dead.

yes we are being prep'd for a reopening and for all we know the Portuguese have already ok'd this.
MBrunt has tweeted evidence she is alive.
of that is so they must know where she is who with and she will be home soon?
I think brunt means she could be alive....of course she could. lets hope she is , but there is no mention of finding her.

It's an odd time to move such an important Panorama programme as it is going on at the same time as the champion league semi-final when a lot of households (excluding mine) will be wanting to watch the match, much more chance of people watching Panorama if they had kept it to their original date.

If SY have genuinely come to that conclusion based on evidence, let us hope due to money spent and public interest in this case he will discuss those theories and maybe allow that specualtion [ conspiracy theories, lets hope he tells us why he dismisses them] was enabled by certain things which he and his team have resolved and now due to SY involvement, can be explained.....discrepancies, inconsistencies, strange photos etc.
Given statistics, I doubt Maddie will be found, and I doubt she is alive, if abducted by a stranger.
Just hope for some openness eventually in a report with the conclusions, otherwise it will look like a total whitewash, because if no openness, that is exactly what it will be.
If Madeleine is by some small chance alive, I hope she can be found.

Good heavens, she's alive! Everyone look for the new 'Madeleine' - I expect this will be a tremendous boost for the Fund.
Is it possible that anyone who has ever been to Portugal has not been interviewed? Even the lost tribes of the Serengeti know who Madeleine is, but seems the Met are now spreading the word and the posters (wonder if they have to pay £2.99 plus p&p) and are SY's finest now wearing good quality wristbands?
I look forward to seeing locktight evidence that the dogs were wrong.

It's unbelievable isn't it. If as Redwood says they were looking for a live madeleine or sadly a dead one and based on the former he has released this picture, then why oh why wait another whole year to do it. Why waste so much time if that was the remit, it is all so totally incomprensible. And why not the appeal for witnesses right at the start to help them, why again a full year later.
