Twitter Antics

Seems like someone is playing silly beggars on twitter hacking or cloning people questioning the abduction theory. I hardly use direct messaging on there but in the last few days have been inundated with DM's directing me to "nasty blogs about me".

This is one of the reasons I don't do twitter or Facebook.

I am sorry to hear you have been targeted in this way.

TM must be either getting very worried about their abduction theory being undermined by more and more sites and discussion forums or they are causing distraction to cover some other activity.

I am probably following you or visa versa. To date I have had 5 of such DM's but after ignoring the first it doesn't matter except to inform the sender. Are we the only ones getting them (I.E. so called "antis")?

As you know I am @gillyspot on twitter having given up on being different on here (makes life simpler for me and the "trolls") big grin

It does seem that they are "all supposed to be" from people who don't believe Maddie was abducted. Someone stirring it no doubt. I havent had any from any of the non-McCann related people I follow.

Obviously trying to stop us tweeting about the case.

@abuseofpower is not a "pro" mccann tweeter. I have now had 5 of them and others have had more. Ignore the messages and hopefully they will go away (if we don't click and spread the virus). Some say it is to do with McCann others say otherwise (believe what you want).

Gillyspot, I know who Abuse of Power is and I've sent her the DM I received to let her see it. All the ones I've received are from people I trust. (Apart from the foxylady one who I didnt know was Blondie til just now).

I also got two of them one from abuseofpower and one from muratfan. They are easy to spot as spam so I never opened them, ust deleted right away..

I dont anymore, I did it before I realized what scum it was. I thought I had unfollowd him, apperently I hadn't so in that way it was a good reminder for me to do so. I don't use twitter very often, and my memory is like a goldfish at times :)

The abuseofpower account is mine - I had a message from Twitter this morning saying I'd been hacked and to change my password, which I've done.

I actually had the same tweet sent to me from beausnana and someone else who I can't remember now, so it's not just me who was hacked.

This is the thing. Not many people know about the potential risks of clicking on links provided by some people. Only click on links from people you feel you cna absolutely trust. If in doubt, do not go there!!! Apart from the risks of viruses, there are trackers that can trace your IP address and in the blink of an eye, you can be giving them access to your computer, not just on Twitter, but on forums such as this or any other.

Well daft me clicked but luck would have it twitter would not let me see it,The thing is I got the DM from a EX POLICEMAN and he just did not look like a person that would do such a thing, I was very shocked

I wrote a reply thinking it came him, I hope I have done not the wrong thing in doing so. affraid

I now have a new password on twitter.

Seems like its only the accounts writing about Madeleine case that has been hacked or recived this virus DM.
I guess its not a coinsident.

I had the same experience as scotclogs. Clicked on the link, got a warning "don't go there!"
Did that protect me and all my (email etc) accounts? I changed only my twitter password. Should I do anything else?

You could run a scan of your computer Kiko - I scanned mine yesterday but nothing came up.

So, Twitter know accounts are being hacked, but are they doing anything about it. Can they get their IP addresses? How are the hackers able to do this, can anyone explain? I don't know how it works.

I'm really not keen on these social networking sites - I've already deleted my Facebook account because someone was annoyed that Brenda Ryan was a 'friend' (before she became a McCann supporter) and started to make an issue of it. Rather than get involved with disputes I just tend to pull the plug as there are far more important things in life to be doing.

I understand your point but I was made aware of the case by someone I was following on twitter and that is why I am now on this great site and also campaigning for justice for Madeleine there there too.
