I heard her say it - so it must have been a bluddy big mossie and put up a prolonged fight to make that mess.

I thought I had heard her say it in an interview, has anyone got it bookmarked anywhere?

Villa didn't seem cheap
pauline wrote:Page 195
On July 2 they moved to a rented villa 'the cheapest we could find that suited out requirements (Gerry was now on unpaid leave).' So he was paid for May and June - 2 months as I thought. Kate got some payment from the GP practice but cant locate the page in the book at present.
I think we can assume she wouldn't lie about the paid leave situation as it could so easily be checked - staff in the salaries dept paying the leave could easily read the book!
There are a number of references in the book where she implies she doesn't drink much which just make me think she actually does. I could be quite wrong about this. But if I am right, maybe their booze bills are one factor in the 'debts'.
I really don't recall exactly where I read this, but it was recently. I'll find it again. Money for the rent of the villa was made over direct to the McCanns from the fund. I think it really ran into thousands per month. My idea over three months is something like 9000 to 12000 at least.
Compassionate leave, well Kate lies about a lot of things that can be checked. I'd be surprised if they cut him off so quickly. His boss became one of the directors of the fund didn't he?

While his immediate boss Dr Skehan did become a fund director, I presume that the NHS has specific rules relating to leave and there would be an upper limit on special/compassionate leave. So Dr Skehan wouldn't be able to give him more than the maximum permitted. I find it hard to believe that he could have got 6 months paid leave when he didn't need to stay out there as long as he did.
The boss of a private company can make any payments he choses to a valued employee , but not a medical manager in the NHS to a colleague.
I agree the payments to the McCanns for the villa could have been the amounts you say as the villa was also the HQ of team McCann and various relatives were staying to help. Also it was peak season and rentals would be higher.

Yes, I agree with all that. But that still means that Gerry probably got paid till the end of July. But I believe some doctors have had leave for months or even years when an inquiry is pending. This would be part of NHS rules possibly.
It's just that that snippet of information lets us know that the Fund was badly needed, a justification for using it?
But Gerry did go back to work eventually? I recall seeing a photograph of him hovering over a large, nearly naked patient?
Leicester Hospital also started a collection for them within days, it's not that they didn't have a legitimate need for money at the time, why were they so broke even before they went to PdL, i.e. no reserves, not even one month's mortgage.

Money makes the world go round?
If this photo is genuine (and it certainly is hard to tell these days) it reinforces my belief that this whole shebang was all about money. I wonder if they ever foresaw how successful their commercial enterprise would be. Perhaps they could set themselves up as advisors to people wanting to start up new businesses!

I hope you don't mind Molly but I am using this photo as my avatar. Seems appropriate!

Re: Photographs and memories
I am pretty sure that photo was photoshopped in the time at 3A when we were still allowed to be naughty sometimes on a special humour thread.
It easily could have been real though, that's so scary about it.

Whether it is real or not, a picture can say a thousand words! or in this case....one!!

We're in the money.....
It seems I was right to query whether the photo was authentic or not; it's hard to spot the fakes from some of the genuine images that the McCanns have felt were suitable for publication.

And the McCanns themselves clearly photoshopped at least one photo.Jean wrote:It seems I was right to query whether the photo was authentic or not; it's hard to spot the fakes from some of the genuine images that the McCanns have felt were suitable for publication.
The photo in the shrine in the church does not have Gerry's elbow next to Madeleine's right ear.
The "last photo' does.
One or other was tampered with.
I'm right with you

I've always felt it was all about the money. If you want to get biblical: 'by their fruits shall ye know them'.
But from the first time I saw Gerry standing by the sketch of his 'wider agenda' I could smell a plan, somewhat delayed, but already complete in most details. And how was that possible, given the time?
I also think the plan was to stay in Portugal indefinitely. That's what they said 'until Madeleine is found', which is never, so they could stay forever.
The dogs messed it up, the PJ messed it up, what we are seeing is Plan B. I don't think they ever meant to stay in Rothley.

As early as that?

I thought it was on the BBC website at 12.01. But equally early on the Telegraph's? Amazing.

Picture of model "Breama Barna"
Just in case anyone doesn't know, this picture has been discussed previously on this site and is a hoax. As has been said before, it's sometimes very hard to tell the difference between hoaxes and something put out by the McCanns themselves.

Thanks Marian.
jd, I have deleted your post with the image. Not very respectful to Madeleine, and as Marian says a hoax.

Re: Photographs and memories
Sorry. I hasn't seen it before but just saw it now on one of the blogs. The point being, if it was true just how sick it was and another nail into the McCanns
