Gonçalo Amaral's new book, Maddie: Basta de Lies, hits bookstores on October 14th. In a statement sent to the newsrooms, the editor writes: "In the so-called «Caso Maddie», the only certainty is that, on the night of May 3, 2007, after 10 pm, in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve, it was given a disappearance alert for a British child, aged approximately 4 years". According to the author, certainties beyond this one are few. The inspector criticizes the way the investigation into the disappearance was focused on the idea that the child had been kidnapped. "A suspect was built without even having proved the existence of an abduction and, above all, without knowing the victim", can be read in the synopsis.
 
Gonçalo Amaral says that nowadays it is known "a lot about a suspect, whether truth or lies", but that there is little information about the victim. "It is not known, for example, whether he was the target of abuse, as the Mallorca episode seems to suggest. On the other hand, Maddie seemed to denote speech difficulties for a 4-year-old child. But the child's clinical history is missing, which constitutes a mystery. Neither the parents gave it, nor the British authorities allowed access to it", writes the publisher quoting the author of the book.
 
 Questions are also raised about how much the British police will know, or how much the detectives that the McCann couple have been hired to investigate, or even "how long will the Portuguese justice maintain its neutrality in a case whose jurisdiction is theirs". The investigator goes even further and says: "After millions of euros and pounds spent, the family insists on the abduction thesis, a pedophile is sought, the German police investigates incongruously and the case continues where it was in 2007".
 
"The mysteriously disappeared child deserves an objective and serious investigation", concludes the initial coordinator of the investigation.
 
The book, published by Contraponto, is on pre-sale and the presentation session will take place on October 13, at 6 pm, at El Corte Inglés in Lisbon

Planned kidnapping?  Kidnapping motivated by sexual gratification?  Voluntary disappearance?  Responsibilities of parents or others with a duty of care for the child?  Accidental death (with or without ingestion of sleeping medication)?  Death in the hours or days prior to the missing person alert? It is not known. But there is already a suspect.

For me anyway, the link I posted up thread is in English...but when you get to the checkout and select United Kingdom it won't accept postcode or telephone number as it's in the wrong format. And goodness knows what a nif is.
