Madeleine McCann parents taking legal action against Portugal over disappearance
EXCLUSIVE: Madeleine McCann vanished from her family’s apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz while her parents dined in a nearby tapas bar in 2007

Portugal may soon have to pay Madeleine McCann’s parents compensation over her disappearance.
Kate and Gerry McCann are taking legal action against a ruling by the country’s supreme court.
The McCanns’ legal action stems from a feud with former detective Goncalo Amaral, 60, who led the initial police hunt for Madeleine and in a best-selling book later accused the couple of covering up her death.
The couple, both 51, later successfully sued Mr Amaral for libel arguing his claim Madeleine was dead was hampering their global search for her.
But the decision to award them damages and costs totalling £436,000 was overturned on appeal on the basis the former detective was entitled to express his opinions under freedom of speech.
That decision was ratified by Portugal’s Supreme Court – the highest authority in the land.
Now the McCanns are hoping to appeal against that judgement in the European Court Of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France.
A judge is to assess their case within the coming months.
A spokesman for the European Court of Human Rights said: “Before the end of the year there will be a preliminary examination by the court regarding the admissibility of the application.’’
If the McCanns win the Portuguese nation may be ordered to pay them a cash settlement.
A source close to the UK police probe into Madeleine’s disappearance said that could fuel 'resentment’.
“The disappearance of Madeleine has already cost Portugal,’’ they said.
"Tourism was badly affected afterwards.
“Now the possibility of having to pay money to a couple who – in many locals’ eyes – left their child to fate while they went out could cause resentment.’’
Then-three-year-old Madeleine vanished from her family’s apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz while her parents dined with pals in a nearby tapas bar in 2007.
The couple were unavailable for comment yesterday.

Madeleine McCann parents taking legal action against Portuguese government
Hi all. Good to see you are all still here. This is the first time for me to log in, for months. With Brexit and other issues, I haven't been here. It's been so long, I couldn't remember my log in id or my password.
I came across the article below, earlier. I don't know if this has been posted anywhere on the forum. Verdi, don't be too hard on me if this is posted in the wrong place. If it is, please move or remove it.

A precursor for another tug at the public purse strings in the not too distant future?
There appears to be a pool of errant journalists who take turns in regurgitating past fictitious news reports, already debunked time and time again by the more astute observer.
A gaggle of geese honking their way around the Duck or Grouse public bar.

Does anyone really take any notice of the recycled bilge put out by MSM ?
I doubt it , people are thoroughly sick of the McCanns and their " poor me " attitude , let's sue everyone and make more money for the ( non existent ) " search " !
Even they " weren't available for comment " . Allegedly
Why have a dog and bark yourself . Whoops , don't mention dogs .

I have had a few McCann free months. I haven't heard a thing about them in all that time, and I have to say, it's been very liberating.sandancer wrote:Does anyone really take any notice of the recycled bilge put out by MSM ?

Isn't it coming up for the renewed Grange funding time of year soon, swiftly followed by the 13th anniversary?

Why an article at all.
That which is 'true' we knew already, from some time ago
Other bits are simply the normal Tabloid Nonsense. Repeated Falsehoods.
And on their own admission there may only be a ruling on the admissibility of the case in the first place before the end of 2020. Hardly NEWS !
So it must be there for some other reason.

This will be interesting to see.
We had interference from Blair and Brown
Cameron and May gave in to funding Grange
What will Boris do?
Re: The Daily Star: Madeleine McCann parents taking legal action against Portugal over disappearance
Do we want Grange to continue, so that the case is still "Open",
or
Do we want it to close, so the McCann team can claim martyred status, plead for more millions of public money,
go on television programmes complaining about everyone and everything, and start to imply that they have
by definition been exonerated by the Met as well as by the Portuguese.
'There was no evidence . . ." has been a frequent, if untrue, Mantra they have used fairly successfully so far.
Just a thought.

I want it to stay open, but with a proper investigation!

Re: The Daily Star: Madeleine McCann parents taking legal action against Portugal over disappearance
I say close it down. Re-open the official investigation in Portugal and when that's completed, arrange a full public inquiry into Op Grange.
Re: The Daily Star: Madeleine McCann parents taking legal action against Portugal over disappearance
Forget it. Nigh on thirteen years down the line and no progress.
The case is a dead duck. It died end of the summer 2007 when Snr Amaral was removed.
Whether or not Operation Grange is finally wound down makes no difference to the situation the McCanns find themselves in. The world has lost interest in this charade - the only thing that would rekindle interest would be if someone/anyone of any significance is brought to justice.
Face it .... that ain't ever going to happen.
Maybe a movie, maybe more books, maybe more documentaries but one thing for sure, the McCanns have out-played their global attention seeking.
As an aside, there are any number of unsolved mysteries still lurking in the annals of time - the death of Princess Diana being one, a case far more important to the nation than the likes of the McCanns.
Governments and politicians come and they go but the mysteries remain just that - mysteries. There are cases that can never be officially solved - why else can they be classified mysteries?
Madeleine McCann's disappearance is not a mystery, it's the conspiratorial cover-up that's created the mystery.
The show ended around the 10th anniversary - all but.

I see that there is progress on both Stuart Lubbock and Lee Balkwell's cases. This forum has been in existence for long enough for us to know that persistence is key. The Truth always comes out.Verdi wrote:Forget it. Nigh on thirteen years down the line and no progress.

ECHR Article 17
How can Kate and Gerry McCann possibly succeed in the European Court of Human Rights when Article 17 seems to exclude them?
"Nothing in this Convention may be interpreted as implying for any State, group or person any right to engage in any activity or perform any act aimed at the destruction of any of the rights and freedoms set forth herein or at their limitation to a greater extent than is provided for in the Convention."
In prohibiting the “abuse of rights” Article 17 is geared to providing democracies with the means of combating acts and activities which destroy or unduly restrict fundamental rights and freedoms, whether those acts or activities are carried out by a “State”, a “group” or an “individual” (Bîrsan v. Romania).

It must stay open.
To close it would / WILL open the floodgates for litigation by the McCanns against anyone who dares to have an opinion. The Press will be told what to write, individuals will be gagged, and they and Tudor Adams will be able to squash all freedom of thought, as well as of speech.
