Who will be in charge if the case is reopened.
If this case is reopened, who will be in charge this time. Or will Rebelo still be the top man. Will the McCanns still be arguidos or made arguidos again? Could any of the Tapas 7 be made arguidos, as there was talk of that last time round. And what of Robert Murat..............hmmmmmmmm so many questions. Do you think Rebelo should be in charge again. I don't know if I have any faith in him, and we never heard to much from him did we. Anyone any thoughts on this?

Excellent questions
I would imagine that the person in charge would be someone who has knowledge of the case, maybe someone who worked with Amaral or Rebelo.
I am not sure that I trust Rebello either.
Last time the McCanns were in charge, hope its not a repeat.
What happened to Goncalo Amaral`s team after he left, did`nt he set himself up with a few private detectives (2 British, 1 Spanish and 1 other)? Have they been working away quietly in the backround?

Re: Who will be in charge if the case is reopened.
I was just reading an old article from Portuguese newspaper in which Mr Amaral wanted to be an assistant to the process, which I think would be a good thing.
Here's the article - February this year, google translation
McCann: Case reopened
The Maddie case, filed in July 2008 for lack of evidence, could be reopened. Gonçalo Amaral, former coordinator of the Judicial Police in Portimao, who led the investigation into the disappearance of British girl in Praia da Luz in May 2007, assured that you are considering constitute an assistant to the process and who has evidence that could change the scenario current case.February 11, 2010No. of votes (0) Comments (94) Por:Magali Pinto
'There are hundreds of steps that were not investigated, a process that was misfiled, "he said yesterday on the sidelines of the closing arguments of the trial of the injunction of the book' Maddie - The Truth Lies' at the Palace of Justice in London." It's more than legitimate, since it destroyed my reputation. Shamed me personally and professionally ', he concluded. Moreover, Isabel Duarte, defense attorney Gerry and Kate McCann called 'liar' by PJ inspector Ricardo Paiva, who provided testimony at the last session. 'There are dozens of photographs, license plates and places that might indicate where is Madeleine, and the police simply devalued. Consulted and saw the process. You can not find someone if we do not seek ', he stressed.
In yesterday's session, which was attended by the British couple, the central issue was the alleged breach of secrecy by Gonçalo Amaral, since the defense of the McCann says the book was given as completed prior to the filing process. António Cabrita, Gonçalo Amaral's lawyer, said the controversy around the book only because the same 'is dangerously close to what happened' on the night of the disappearance.
Gerry McCann, accompanied by a poster with a picture of her daughter, said she trusts the Portuguese judicial system. 'Do not forget to look for our girl. Do not give up, please, "appealed.

Some people gathered yesterday outside the Palace of Justice to support the former coordinator of the PJ Gonçalo Amaral. 'You can not call the two fathers who abandon their children,' they said, with red carnations in their hands.

IIRC, Dr Amaral said when he retired from the PJ, that he was going to practice as a lawyer. A prosecuting lawyer.

Re: Who will be in charge if the case is reopened.
In England some retired police officers are brought back to review, for example, unsolved murder cases and other serious crimes, perhaps the same could happen in Portugal where Amaral could come back and be involved in the reopening of the case, now wouldnt the Mccanns just love that.

I think we will find that Goncalo Amaral's services will be in great demand if the McCanns request the case to be re-opened.

Not Rebelo I hope
This is a post I kept from someone called Salomon, which really makes you think !!!
Let us not forget that "safe pair of hands" Rebelo is the man who refused to re-interview the McCanns, he is also the man responsible for refusing to carry out the re-construction with those willing to participate. He did not request for further diligences to be carried out in the UK with the assistance of Eddie and Keela. He did not accept that the Smith family travel to Portugal to review their statement preferring the recourse to an international rogatory letter instead (when everyone had agreed that they should be flown in back to portugal immediately). He did not include in the files any statement about David Payne and the allegations of his sexual innuendos. He does not seem to have pursued the leads that placed the McCanns visiting some appartments in PDL in the days after Madeleine's disappearance. I have not heard of any evidence in the files about any motion requested or carried out by Rebelo that could in any way suggest that he was investigating the death and removal of a dead body from the apartment or was even interested in ironing out some of the contradictions and inconsistencies that were identified in the statements by the different Tapas. In fact, other than asking for these apparently incipient interviews to be carried out in the UK (from which Gerry and Kate were suitably relieved), Insp Rebelo did pretty much... nothing... other than ensuring that the process was archived.
Has anyone noticed how Insp Amaral is so... silent about Insp Rebelo and his team. He always makes very clear that he's defending his honour and the honour of those who worked in his team. About Rebelo he indirectly only claims that "as soon as he was removed from the investigation, he knew that the process was going to be archived". Why did he think this ????
I don't know how to do it, nor do I currently have the time and know-how to do it. But I think it'd be very valuable to dig a bit deeper into the past of the good Insp Rebelo and try to understand why he was appointed to bury this case.

I have been thinking.
The Portuguese Prosecutors have said all along that if “credible new evidence comes to light”, they can reopen the case.
Does this mean they now have “credible new evidence” ? Let's hope so..

After leaving the investigation, did you ever speak with your successor, Paulo Rebelo ?
No. It is an interesting question to consider. If they removed me for the barbarity of speaking to the press, and not for incompetence, it would be normal to be consulted. But this never happened.
I hate to say so...
But I don't have any faith in anything the McCanns think up, whenever they ask for something or do their run of interviews there is always a catch, always something in it for them, I dont see the demand for a reopening any differently, so whats in it for them? Well what good is a reopening after all this time? there are no forensic evidences to be gathered, the witnesses are not going to suddenly appear now, there are no witnesses because there was not an abduction. They are asking this now to snowball Amarals victory, to muddy the waters, so people will think well they must be innocent or they wouldn't stir up a hornets nest so to speak.

Re: Who will be in charge if the case is reopened.
As far as I am aware there has been no suggestion of a re-opening of the case and the McCanns have never asked for this. I remember, when asked by a journalist in Lisbon a few months ago if they were going to ask for the case to be re-pened, Kate ummmed and aahhhed before finally muttering something about being busy and it not being important - her exact response is on vid but no idea where to find it.
I agree soulthief, the purpose of this petition nonsense is to convince the public they are innocent - they know that by keeping themselves in the spotlight and behaving in a pro-active manner, most people will not view them as suspects. I have friends say to me 'I used to think they were involved but surely they would keep a low profile rather than give endless interviews and appear on chat shows if that were the case.'
When Mr Amaral's book is eventually published in the UK, I look forward to sending copies to my family and friends for their birthdays - doubt it will be available intime for Christmas

I am surprised at a lawyer of the calibre of Duarte, pursuing such a disasterous course. She must be absolutely terrified of the McCanns to risk her career like this.

Perhaps Duarte is employed not by the McCann's, but by the very people who have been going to great lengths to protect the McCann's. As such you can perfectly understand why she would be very afraid of upsetting them.

I think Duarte is way out of her depth with the McCanns and will end up with her career in ruins

Perhaps Duarte was at that point in her career, where she knew that with her age, she needed to be thinking more about retirement and her pension when she considered representing the McCann's.
