Frustrated police still have no firm leads in their investigation into the disappearance of toddler William Tyrell, six weeks after the three-year-old disappeared from his grandmother's front yard.
Detectives have spoken to every person they could locate who was in Kendall on the mid-north coast of NSW on September 12, when William, dressed in his favourite Spiderman costume, was last seen. 
The investigation into William's disappearance passed the six-week mark on Friday, as followers of a Facebook page set up to help find the little boy who loved fire engines topped 17,000.

Strike Force Rosann detectives are now collating information including hundreds of calls from the public, a police spokeswoman said. 'There is nothing new, unfortunately,' the spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia. 'It is very frustrating for police.' 
Detectives, who found no trace of William during an intense nine-day search and are concentrating their investigation on the theory William was abducted, have previously described the case as 'astonishing'.
William disappeared from his grandmother's yard in Benaroon Drive, Kendall, about 10.30am on September 12, five minutes after he was last seen by his grandmother and mother. He had been playing with his four-year-old sister.
A huge search of surrounding properties and bushland failed to find a trace of the boy. One lead police have investigated is a report of a 'well-dressed, well-spoken' man who reportedly asked a local shopkeeper for directions to Batar Creek Road, which leads to Benaroon Drive, on the morning William disappeared.

Earlier this month, Strike Force Rosann commander Acting Superintendent Tony Joice said police wanted to interview every person who was in Kendall on September 12 to determine what they were doing and why they were there. He described the case as 'astonishing'.  
'If you were in the Kendall area, we need to know what you were doing, who you were visiting, what car you were driving, what you were doing there,' Acting Superintendent Joice told The Telegraph. 'It’s about putting the pieces together.'
That task is now complete, a police spokeswoman said.
The search for William included police from the dog squad, officers on horseback and on trail bikes, divers, Forensic Services Group members and a helicopter.

Volunteers from the State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service, Surf Life Saving, and local citizens scoured the main search area for nine days without finding any trace of the boy. 
After five days police conceded the boy could not have survived in bushland alone. Some ground was searched more than 10 times.
Police interviewed William's sister but she was unable to provide any information about his disappearance. 

William's family have remained out of public view but a friend, Nicole, has made several appeals for help. She said while William enjoyed being outdoors he had no tendency to wander off. 
'He is a happy, cheeky, adventurous little boy who doesn’t wander off,' Nicole said. 'William is pretty much always happy. He was happy to play in the garden and be with his family.'

Mid-North Coast local area commander Superintendent Paul Fehon has said 'someone, somewhere' must know something about William's disappearance. 
William's family thanked searchers for their hard work. 'Thank you does not seem like the right sort of word to express our gratitude and heartfelt warmth we feel towards each and every one of you,' a statement from the family said.
'We have been completely overwhelmed with the way the public, SES, Surf Life Saving, RFS and the Police have rallied together to find our little Spiderman William.'

This is a strange case; the answer is likely to be close to home.

Does anyone know - maybe Australian members - why William's parents and family have not been named or made any public appearances? I have read that it is for legal reasons?

Yes, that's definitely a family friend and, even with her, only her first name was given. That's what I queried before: the parents and other relatives have not been named or seen in public.

From the article below it would seem that this little boy, who is still missing, has a 'complicated family history', Marian, which prohibits their being named 'for legal reasons'.

William's grandmother would appear to be a pillar of the community and his parents are described as 'committed christians and reasonably well off' which suggests to me that this child, and possibly his sister, may have been born to a member of the wider family and adopted after fractious or contested proceedings in the NSW, or another state's, family courts.

In any event, the fact that members of William's family have not been named should not be seen as cause to suppose that they have engaged in any untoward behavour either with regard to this little boy's disappearance or at any other time in their lives.

I'm not a subscriber - I found the article by the simple expedient of putting 'William Tyrell' into google's search engine and read it without realising that it was by way of a 'one-time only offer', after which I'd have to sign up to read it again, Marian :frown:

If I'd known, I would have copied the article to here but it is rather long and contains many of the pictures which can be seen upthread.

If you undertake your own google search I'm sure you'll be able to track down the site (which is possibly on page 2 of the results) and read the article or find other Australian sites such as this one which also makes reference to the child's 'complicated family history':.

And no doubt about 'the last photo' of the child dressed in his spiderman suit and with his sister in the background which, we are given to understand, his mother took on her mobile phone less than a hour before he disappeared and which was distributed by the police within a very short time of the search for William commencing.  

I ferevently hope that, however unlikely it may seem at the present time, there is a chance of this little boy being found alive and reunited with his parents.

I'm, surprised it's taken so long for the homicide squad to be called in and wonder what the armchair pundits will have to say about the 'crime scene' not having been secured within minutes of the child's disappearance being reported?

'The homicide squad are involved to ensure thorough investigation but we have no evidence to suggest any particular scenario at this stage,' a police spokeswoman told Daily Mail.

"There's a challenge out there and the challenge is to ensure that especially with Christmas coming up that we are able to locate young William and be able to provide the family with some sort of outcome," Superintendent Paul Fehon of the NSW Police told 7 News.
Of William's family Supt. Fehon said: "You can understand their despair and pain."
Without locating him in the bush, we are still hopeful of being able to locate young William," Supt. Fehon told the Sydney Morning Herald.
The notion that William had some kind of misadventure on his own on the day of his disappearance seems to be unlikely as police, SES volunteers, RFS volunteers and community members spent 11 days searching areas spanning 48 kilometres and turned up with nothing.
"We are completely open to any possibility, including human intervention," Supt. Fehon said.
"If that has occurred, somebody knows something."

Little William Tyrrell was just three years old when he disappeared while playing with his big sister four years ago

Dressed in a Spider-Man costume, a little boy lets out a 'roar' as he draws with crayons on his foster grandmother's veranda.
This is the last known photo of William Tyrrell, who was just three years old when he vanished while playing a game of hide-and-seek.
The toddler was in good spirits as he played with his big sister in his gran's front and back yard on the morning of September 12, 2014.
He would run around the back of the house in New South Wales, Australia, and 'hide', before reappearing with a cheeky smile.
At some point after the game started, his foster mum, who had also been outside, is said to have gone inside to make a cup of tea.
The young children continued playing. But when William went down the side of the property again, he failed to reemerge.
He had seemingly vanished into thin air.

More than four years on, the youngster hasn't been seen since.
Although his disappearance from the scene in Benaroon Drive, Kendall, remains a mystery, it is believed he was abducted.
"Somebody somehow managed to get him and disappeared down the road," neighbour Paul Savage, 74, told news.com.au.
This week, it emerged that an inquest into William's disappearance will begin next March in the Sydney suburb of Lidcombe.
It will take place at the Forensic Medicine and Coroners Court Complex, according to the NSW Justice Twitter account.
The little boy had arrived at his gran's home early, along with his sister, the night before his disappearance as a surprise for her.
The following morning, the two siblings were seen riding their bicycles in the driveway, with a neighbour hearing them playing.

At about 9.15am, William's foster dad is said to have left the two-storey, three-bedroom house to find better phone signal.
Half an hour later, the boy's mum took three photos of her foster son, showing him drawing on the veranda in his Spider-Man outfit.
These were to be the last known images of William. It was not long after that he vanished during the hide-and-seek game.
His mum, realising he was missing, asked his sister and gran if they knew where he was, before desperately seeking help nearby.
"You could tell she was very distressed when she first came to us,” neighbour Anne-Maree Sharpley told The Sunday Telegraph.
“I just remember saying ‘Don’t worry, we’ll find him,’ and that has stuck with me because obviously they didn’t find him."
She added that she waited with the mum as she called police.

Following William's disappearance, a large-scale search was launched and extensive investigations were carried out.
Hundreds of police officers, volunteers and a helicopter all joined in the search, which saw hundreds of tips sent in to authorities.
Divers also searched nearby waterways.
But there was no sight of the missing youngster.
William's biological parents were interviewed but dismissed as possible abduction suspects, according to news.com.au.
Police also ruled out his foster parents.
His biological mum has since spoken out, urging whoever took him: "Just let him come home. Please. It's not fair. This isn't fair."
Meanwhile, William's foster mum told Channel Seven earlier this year: "We need to know where he is, and we need to know what happened to him, 'cause we can't live forever like this."

Two years after William vanished, the state's government offered a $1million reward for information leading to the child's recovery.
However, William has yet to be found. Investigators have acknowledged the "continued strength and courage" of his families.
They have been continuing to explore lines of inquiry in a bid to find out what happened to the youngster, Daily Mail Australia reports.
According to Mr Savage, the little boy "wouldn't go wandering".
“Very few people around here knew him and his sister, not many of us, just two little kids visiting," he said. “They wouldn’t go wandering. They would stay close to their grandmother."
A Facebook page, called 'Where's William Tyrrell? Bring Him Home - Official', has been set up in a bid to find the youngster.
A post in September read: "Today marks 4 tragic years since we last saw little William. 4 years of heartache and 4 years of endless tears for everyone who held him dear - not knowing where he is or what has happened to him. Today also marks the gift of unending love, hope and support from across Australia and around the globe."
The inquest is expected to begin on March 25, 2019.
