REFERENCES TO PAEDOPHILIA IN RELATION TO THE DISAPPEARANCE OF MADELEINE MCCANN

 
Paedophilia and paedophiles are words from which we naturally recoil. It is by no means a new phenomenon. There are many other words we use to refer to paedophiles: kiddie-fiddlers, nonces, child sexual abusers, child sex offenders and so on. Some of the crimes committed by paedophiles are scarcely believable in their brutality; other offences by them are mercifully less serious. One thing seems certain, such crimes are on the increase and are often severe in their long-lasting effects on those abused. There is widespread agreement that the internet is a major cause of any increase in this vile crime.

It is an unpleasant fact that the subject of paedophilia has frequently been associated in some way with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, very regrettable though that is. Here, for the record, we give a brief summary of some of these references:

1. Dr Gerry McCann said on the day Madeleine was reported missing that Madeleine had been taken by a paedophile

Leaving aside for a moment the lack of direct evidence that Madeleine was abducted at all, there clearly is also no direct evidence whatsoever that, if Madeleine was abducted, that it was a paedophile who took her. Yet the McCanns themselves, on the very evening that Madeleine was reported missing, claimed she had been snatched by one or more paedophiles. That was a remarkable thing for them to say right from the first minute they reported Madeleine as missing. She might for example have wandered out of her room and out of the flat.

2. The McCanns and their team repeatedly said that Madeleine had been taken by a paedophile or a gang of paedophiles

In the months that followed her reported disappearance, the McCann Team made numerous references, counted in dozens, to the probability that Madeleine had been abducted by paedophiles.

3. One of the McCanns’ close friends, a General Practitioner, said that on a previous holiday together, one of Dr Gerald McCann’s best friends, Dr David Payne, had made sexualised remarks and gestures about Madeleine

On 16 May 2007, just 13 days after Madeleine disappeared, Dr Katarina Gaspar made this statement:

“One night, when all the adults, that is, from those couples I have mentioned above, were all sitting around on a patio outside the house where we were all staying. We had been eating and drinking ‘Berbers’. I was sitting between Gerry and Dave and I think both were talking about Madeleine. I can't remember the conversation in its entirety, but they seemed to be discussing a particular scenario. I remember Dave saying to Gerry something about ‘she’, meaning Madeleine, ‘would do this’.

“While he mentioned the word ‘this’, Dave was doing the action of sucking one of his fingers, pushing it in and out of his mouth, while with his other hand he was doing a circle around his nipple, with a circular movement around his clothes. This was done in a provocative way. There seemed to be an explicit insinuation about what he was saying and doing. I remember being shocked by that. I always felt it was something very weird and that it was not something anyone should say or do. I looked at Gerry, and also at Dave, to gauge their reactions.

“I looked around as if saying: “Did someone else hear that, or was it just me?”. The conversations stopped for a moment, then we all began conversing again. Moreover, I remember Dave doing the same thing on another occasion. In saying this, I want to mention once again that it was during a conversation in which he was talking about an imaginary scenario, although I’m not sure.

“He again stuck one of his fingers in and out of his mouth and with the other hand he once again drew a circle around his nipple in a provocative and sexual way. I think he was referring to the way she, that is, his daughter Lily, would behave or what she would do. I think he did this later during this same holiday, but I'm not sure.

“The only time since then that I have been in the company of Dave and Fiona was several weeks after the holidays, when Savio and I met Gerry, Kate, Dave and Fiona in a restaurant in Leicester. I’m sure that he said what he said and made the gestures I have related, but [the second time] it could have happened in the restaurant in Leicester, although I do think it was in Majorca that I heard Dave say and do this for the second time. After the second occasion [when he made these gestures] I took it more seriously.

“I remember thinking whether he would look at my daughter and other little girls in a different way than I or others do. I imagined that he had perhaps visited internet sites related to little children. In a word, I thought that he could be interested in child pornography on the web. During our holiday in Majorca, each parent would bath the children in turn. I was keen to stay near the bathroom if Dave was bathing the children.

“I remember I said to Savio to be careful and to be close by if Dave was helping to bathe the children and my daughter in particular…”

4. Dr Katarina Gaspar’s husband, also a General Practitioner, Dr Arul Savio Gaspar, confirmed this event:

“During the period we stayed at the villa I remember a gesture made by David Payne. I do not remember the context of the conversation between David and Gerry, but I do remember seeing David use his left index finger to rub his nipple, using circular movements, whilst he put his right index finger into his mouth, touching his tongue. This happened during a meal, at the end of the day, in the villa. I do not remember the time or the date, but we would usually dine between 7.30pm and 9.00pm every day. I think this happened in the middle of the holiday.

“I remember that when I saw this gesture, I immediately thought it to be in very bad taste, independently of the context of the conversation they were having. We were sitting around a white plastic table in the villa. I don’t know if anyone else saw the gesture, apart from my wife Katherine”.

5. One of the suspects in the case, Robert Murat, was accused by two witnesses of having paedophile tendencies

A couple of days after Robert Murat was taken in for questioning by the Portuguese Police and formally declared a suspect, Dr Gerald McCann was asked: “Did you already know Robert Murat?” Dr McCann brushed the question aside impatiently and said: “I am not going to comment on that”. That led many to consider that the two men did previously know each other. It is a very reasonable inference to draw from his evasive comment.

Two witnesses claimed that Robert Murat had paedophile tendencies. One of them, who knew Murat well, made a detailed statement with some very graphic comments about Murat’s sexual preferences. The links for these statements are given on our website in a lengthy feature article about Robert Murat. The Portuguese Police discovered encrypted material on Murat’s computer after they seized it. Encryption is often used by those who view, download or exchange child pornography. Murat said he had ‘no idea’ why there was encrypted material on his computer.

6. Murat’s friend Sergei Malinka was also said to have child pornography on his computer

A witness told Portuguese Police that Sergei Malinka, a friend of Murat who had worked on Murat’s website, also had an interest in child pornography and had child pornography on his computer. But the police found he had wiped all the data on his hard drive before the police examined it.

7. Jim Gamble, the Chief Executive of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), used the Madeleine McCann disappearance to highlight the danger of paedophiles

Despite the high degree of uncertainty about what really happened to Madeleine, highlighted by their own spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, saying in March 2010 that her disappearance was ‘a complete mystery’, Jim Gamble, head of CEOP, relentlessly associated Madeleine with CEOP.  This was despite the obvious fact that the McCanns on their own admission had left three young children, all aged under four, in a vulnerable situation - for six nights in a row - and clearly failed to protect them. Many questioned why an organisation with the words ‘Child Protection’ in its title should feature the McCanns so heavily, given their failure of child protection.

Gamble, from 2007 onwards, heavily featured Madeleine on the CEOP website and in various CEOP publications. Around the time of the second anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance (17 months previous to the date of this article , he appeared together with the McCanns in a so-called one-minute ‘viral video’, strongly emphasising that Madeleine was still alive and needed to be found.

Later he also appeared on morning news shows side by side with the McCanns.

Still more significantly, he invited Dr Gerald McCann in January 2010 to be the keynote speaker at a conference on the abduction of children by paedophiles. Why Dr McCann was considered by Gamble to be qualified to contribute to that conference, never mind being the ‘keynote speaker’, given the raft of uncertainties about the circumstances in which Madeleine disappeared, has never been explained either by the McCanns or by Jim Gamble.

Furthermore, it was reported - and confirmed by a Home Office Freedom of Information Act request - that in October 2009, the McCanns had a private interview with the McCanns. Following that, several press reports (not denied) indicated that the Home Secretary asked Jim Gamble to recommend a new British police force to carry out a review and possibly a re-investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance.

Some reports suggested that he had recommended West Yorkshire Police to carry out such a review. But the Home Office was unwilling to confirm or deny this. It was baffling why the Home Secretary, knowing Jim Gamble’s extreme closeness to the McCanns, should choose him to recommend who should carry out any review into Madeleine’s disappearance.

In the days before this article was written, Jim Gamble told the Home Secretary, Theresa May, that he was resigning from his post as CEOP Chief Executive, a resignation she swiftly accepted. The McCanns put out statements strongly supporting him, thanking him for his work on their behalf, and querying the Coalition government’s decision to incorporate CEOP within the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). They described his departure in graphic terms as ‘a huge loss to child protection’. These comments pointed inexorably, once again, to the conclusion that there was a very close ‘tie’ between the McCanns and Jim Gamble.  

8.  The McCann Team in conjunction with Jim Gamble of CEOP published a video about Madeleine and circulated it round the internet which many believed showed her inappropriately posed in heavy make-up

In 2010, Jim Gamble once again co-operated with the McCanns to make a another video about Madeleine. The video in question featured three images of Madeleine. One very striking one shows her in an unusual pose, shot by the photographer from well below her face, wearing make-up, including much blue eyeshadow, lipstick and jewellery, and looking unhappy.

The McCanns publicly claimed that ‘the photo shows her when she was three after a raid on the dressing box’. However, it is very unlikely that Madeleine could have put the necklace on herself, nor applied eyeshadow in the manner shown in the photograph, nor applied the pink bow to her hair.

The evidence from the photograph suggests that an adult made her up and of course an adult was on hand to take that particular image of her. The McCanns did not say who took the photograph. Even if Madeleine had ‘raided the dressing box’, as claimed, it is one thing to take a photo of something like that for your family photo album, but altogether another matter to release it for millions to see. 

The McCanns explicitly approved the very public release of this video and the images on it. As one newspaper reported: “Parents of Madeleine McCann, who went missing three years ago, have released a new video and photo of their missing daughter to mark the third anniversary of the girl's disappearance”. The photo the McCanns specifically chose to highlight in the video was the one with Madeleine wearing heavy make-up, apparently applied by an adult and not by herself.  

There was strong adverse reaction by many members of the public to this image being used in connection with a missing child. Not least was the opinion of Mr Mark Williams-Thomas, a former police detective and now leading criminologist and child protection expert, who has often in the past spoken with strong sympathy and understanding for the McCanns. His unambiguous reaction to this particular photograph, promoted on his ‘Twitter’ blog, was that it was ‘so inappropriate’ and ‘so damaging’. We agree with him.

The McCanns have from the day Madeleine was reported missing claimed explicitly and on many occasions that Madeleine must have been abducted by a paedophile, or paedophiles, often described by them as ‘predatory’, ‘evil’, or ‘ monsters’. Yet the photo of Madeleine featured by her parents shows a child looking much older than her actual three years, due to the make-up and jewellery, as all the news media quickly picked up the following day.

The McCanns said a number of times that they were advised by the police ‘not to show any emotion’ in front of the cameras. One newspaper reported, around the time the McCanns appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show:  “The couple also admitted they had been advised not to show any emotion while in front of the media, because any potential abductor ‘may get a kick out of it’.” It was all the more surprising, therefore, that the McCanns should use this short video to project and promote an image of Madeleine which might well appeal to certain paedophiles, some of whom are unfortunately attracted to young children.   

One person commented on ‘Twitter’ about the direct promotion of this video by CEOP Chief Executive Jim Gamble, writing: “If CEOP endorse this type of public relations for a supposed missing child, then their role in child protection has to be questioned!”  

9.  The McCann Team have highlighted the possible involvement of a named paedophile, Raymond Hewlett, in the disappearance of Madeleine

First they suggested that Hewlett was involved in Madeleine’s disappearance; latterly they have claimed that he gave an account of his knowledge of Madeleine’s disappearance in a letter he dictated to hospital staff in the weeks before he died. The claims made about this letter are highly improbable and we suggest that they are a complete fabrication. They have however been deliberately promoted by the McCann Team for 18 months.

10.  The connection between Ray Wyre, paedophile ‘expert’ and the McCanns

We’ve highlighted the connection between the late Ray Wyre and the McCanns in another article on our website, titled ‘Ray Wyre and the McCanns: What was the connection between the McCanns and the late paedophilia ‘expert’, Ray Wyre?

There are at least four questions we would ask about this connection:

Why was Wyre so keen, in two articles published four and seven days after Madeleine was reported missing, to insist so adamantly that she had been abducted?

Why, in addition, did he emphasise the possibility that she had been snatched by a paedophile?

Why did the McCanns agree to meet the Wyres at their Buckinghamshire home?

Was that meeting really much more about producing a helpful Sunday newspaper article than, as was claimed, about starting a new organisation for missing children?

11. (NEW) The McCanns’ friend, Sir Clement Freud, exposed as a serial paedophile

Following the reported disappearance of Madeleine McCann, the McCanns had dinner with the late Sir Clement Freud and his wife, Lady Freud. They had a villa in Praia da Luz, Portugal, where the McCanns had been holidaying. They became friends with each other. There had been strong rumours for years that Clement Freud was a paedophile. These have now been confirmed in an article for the Daily Telegraph on 14 June 2016, in which it was stated that Lady Freud apologised for her husband;s conduct and that Operation Grange would now investigate links between Sir Clement Freud and the McCanns.  Sir Clement died in 2009.

Sir Clement Freud exposed as a paedophile as police urged to probe Madeleine McCann links

Sir Clement Freud, the former broadcaster and politician, was exposed on Tuesday night as a paedophile who sexually abused girls as young as 10 for decades.

Freud, who died in 2009, spent years abusing a girl who he brought up as a daughter, and violently raped a teenager while he was an MP.

His widow, Lady Freud, has apologised to his victims, saying she is “shocked, deeply saddened and profoundly sorry” for what her husband of 58 years did to them.

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have been alerted to the fact that Freud had a villa in Praia da Luz, Portugal, the resort where the three-year-old went missing in 2007.

He befriended the McCanns in the weeks after their daughter went missing, entertaining them at his house on two occasions and keeping in contact by phone and email.

The McCanns are said to be “horrified” by the discovery that Freud was a paedophile.

His family, who include the PR executive Matthew Freud, have said that Freud was not in Portugal at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance and that they have not been contacted by police.

However, officers from Operation Grange, the ongoing Metropolitan Police investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance, are expected to assess the new information before deciding if it may be relevant to the inquiry.

Freud was unmasked as a child sex abuser after one of his victims contacted ITV’s Exposure documentary team, who also broke the story of Jimmy Savile’s paedophilia four years ago.

Sylvia Woosley said Freud befriended her family in 1948, when he was working at a hotel in the South of France, and started abusing her when she was 10.

Four years later, following a family crisis, her mother asked Freud and his wife Jill if they would look after Mrs Woosley, and she found herself living under the same roof as her abuser, being brought up as a daughter. The abuse continued until she managed to move away when she was 19.

Another woman told ITV that Freud started abusing her in the 1970s, when she was 11, and eventually raped her when she was 18, by which time he was a Liberal MP sharing an office with Cyril Smith, who was also unmasked as a paedophile after his death. The rape was so brutal that his victim bled for a week.

Both women’s accounts have been passed on to the Metropolitan Police.

Lady Freud said: “This is a very sad day for me. I was married to Clement for 58 years and loved him dearly. I am shocked, deeply saddened and profoundly sorry for what has happened to these women. I sincerely hope they will now have some peace.”

Clement Freud (with his dog Henry) was held in great affection by the British public

Freud, who was knighted in 1987, was best known as a popular panellist on the Radio 4 show Just a Minute from 1967 until his death in 2009.

The grandson of the psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and the brother of the painter Lucian Freud, he worked his way into the heart of British society, and when he died the then Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, was among the mourners at his funeral.

His five children include Matthew Freud and the broadcaster Emma Freud.

A spokesman for the McCann family said they had not until now been aware of Freud’s child abuse and were not aware that he had ever been investigated by Operation Grange.

The Metropolitan Police did not respond to questions about Operation Grange, but former murder squad detective Colin Sutton said: "If this is something that investigators had not been aware of then it would be certainly a potential line of inquiry that would be worth pursuing.

"It is not something that ought to be taken lightly and you would also want to look any connections he may have had in the area at the time."

In July 2007, Clement Freud helped the parents of missing child Madeleine McCann by cooking them dinners in Praia da Luz and offering them drinks. There is a trail of very prominent people linked to him and his son.... Matthew Freud, he was married to Elisabeth Murdoch, daughter of Rupert Murdoch. Matthew Freud and RB are very good friends!!

Kate and Gerry McCann were two months into the search for their missing daughter Madeleine when they received a letter out of the blue.

It was from Sir Clement Freud, inviting them for a meal at his holiday home in Praia da Luz, a short drive from the Ocean Club, where Madeleine had vanished on May 3, 2007.

“I’m embarrassed to admit that Gerry and I thought this letter was a hoax,” Mrs McCann wrote in her book, Madeleine.

Gerry McCann phoned the number on the letter, discovered it was not a prank, and the next day the McCanns were at Freud’s villa with their twins Sean and Amelie, plus three friends who had stayed in Portugal to help them.

Freud, 83, broke the ice by offering them strawberry vodka.

“I’m usually very intimidated by people with brains the size of planets,” wrote Mrs McCann, “but Clement was incredibly warm, funny and instantly likeable.”

He cooked a “bloody marvellous” meal of watercress and egg salad followed by a chicken and mushroom risotto, “the best risotto we’ve ever tasted before or since”.

Mrs McCann wrote: “Clement cheered us up with his lugubrious wit, and would continue to do so by email after his return to England.”

By August 31, after spending a few weeks in England, Freud was back in Portugal and called Gerry McCann as soon as he arrived.

Freud made a joke out of newspaper reports that Mr McCann was close to a breakdown. “Thank God for people like Clement who kept us smiling,” Mrs McCann wrote.

On the day the McCanns were formally made suspects in the investigation in September 2007, they had been due to go to dinner at Freud’s house again, but cancelled it.

Nevertheless, he rang them at 9.50pm that night to invite them for a drink, while warning them: “You’ll have to forgive my night-time attire.”

Mrs McCann recalled: “We found Clement watching a cookery programme, dressed, as promised, in his nightshirt. It was so ordinary and comforting, a bit like going to see your grandad after a horrible day at school.

“He gave me one of his looks and a giant glass of brandy, and managed to get a smile out of me with his greeting: ‘So, Kate, which of the devout Catholic, alcoholic, depressed, nymphomaniac parts is correct?’

“His response to our catalogue of horrors was merely to raise an eyebrow. Clement had this way of making everything seem a little less terrible. When he heard about the [sniffer] dogs [which had indicated the scent of death in the McCann’s hire car], he remarked laconically, ‘So what are they going to do? Put them on the stand? One bark for yes, two for no?’

“He was right, of course; it was ridiculous. A couple of hours later, fortified by our brandies (it was my first-ever taste of the stuff), some useful snippets of advice and several amusing anecdotes, we left our friend feeling quite a bit better than we had when we’d arrived.”

Police warned of link between 'predatory paedophile' Clement Freud and family of Madeleine McCann

Freud, who died in 2009 aged 84, is believed to have sexually abused girls as young as 11, a documentary has claimed

The late broadcaster and MP Sir Clement Freud, who is believed to have been a predatory paedophile, knew the family of Madeleine McCann - and police investigating the disappearance of the three-year-old may now investigate the link.

Detectives have been alerted to the fact that Freud had a villa in Praia da Luz, Portugal, the resort where the three-year-old went missing in 2007, according to the Daily Telegraph.

In her book Madeleine, Kate recounts the occasion in July 2007 when the late broadcaster Sir Clement Freud, who had a house in Praia da Luz, invited the McCanns around for lunch and broke the ice by offering them a strawberry vodka.

She wrote: "I’m usually very intimidated by people with brains the size of planets but Clement was incredibly warm, funny and instantly likeable."

He prepared a meal of watercress and egg salad followed by a chicken and mushroom risotto for Kate and her husband Gerry. They described the meal as "bloody marvellous".

Clement cheered us up with his lugubrious wit, and would continue to do so by email after his return to England," she added.

Sylvia Woosley, now in her late seventies, said she was repeatedly assaulted by Freud over 60 years ago.

A second woman claimed the former star of Radio 4’s Just a Minute panel game brutally raped her aged 18 after years of grooming that included taking her on trips to the House of Commons.

Former Crown Prosecution Service chief Nazir Afzal told the ITV Exposure programme that Freud, who died in 2009 aged 84, would have been charged with child sex offences based on Sylvia’s case if he was still alive.

He said: “I would have no doubt there is sufficient evidence to prosecute Sir Clement Freud.”

Sylvia said the grooming began when Freud was 24 and she was 10 after her parents moved to the south of France where he was a hotel manager.

She claimed Freud, the grandson of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, first assaulted her as they sat on the back of a bus a year later.

Breaking down in tears, she recalled: “I was disgusted and felt helpless. I was feeling something was not quite right but I didn’t know what it was. I didn’t react in any way. I didn’t know what to do.”

Sylvia claims she felt unable to tell her mother about the incident and was later sent to live with Freud and his actress wife Jill in London in the early 1950s when the abuse began to escalate.

She said he attacked her in his bed one morning after Jill went to make breakfast and would regularly visit her room late at night to abuse her.

Sylvia said she left the family home after telling Freud’s nanny that he had assaulted her and was later accused by Jill of inventing the claims. She said: “I was left totally and utterly destroyed.”

Sylvia claimed he blamed her for the alleged abuse when she confronted him in the House of Commons when she was in her early 40s. “I said ‘why me?’

“He said I was a very sensual little girl.”

Sylvia said the making of the film had given her a sense of relief. She said: “It is the child in me that is speaking – the child that wants to be freed.”

The film also heard from a second alleged victim of Freud – who said she was also groomed and sexually abused by him.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, described him as a “ruthless user” who was also a friend of her family. She said the alleged campaign of abuse began when she was aged 11 in the early 1970s, calling her a “special child” with “rare intelligence” and kissing her on the mouth.

When she was 14 he allegedly invited her and a friend to his home and asked them to undress. They refused and left.

The woman said he raped her four years later when he was aged 54 and she was 18 after they had dinner alone. She said: “He came down on me and I froze up with terror. I told him I didn’t want him to but he kept forcing me.” The attack left her bleeding for a week afterwards, she said.

Freud’s widow Jill, now 89, said in response to the film: “This is a very sad day for me. I was married to Clement for 58 years and loved him dearly. I am shocked, deeply saddened and profoundly sorry for what has happened to these women. I sincerely hope they will now have some peace.”

Born in Berlin, Freud arrived in the UK in the 30s after his Jewish parents fled the Nazis.

He rose to fame alongside a bloodhound called Henry in a 60s TV ad for dog food Minced Morsels and became one of Britain’s first celebrity chefs.

After Army service, during which he was a liaison officer at the Nuremberg trials, he embarked on a political career, winning the Isle of Ely for the Liberals in 1973.

Knighted in 1987, he died at his desk in his London home while writing his weekly column for the Racing Post.

BLOODY HELL - to use the vernacular!

I've grown more or less to expect every news exclusive to be in some way connected to the McCanns - but this?  Surely Clement Freud is not to be the inevitable dead fall-guy so long awaited - nah, that's too silly for words.

It will be very interesting to see how this develops - or not as the case may be.  It's not the sort of story that would directly be connected with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, unless someone draws particular attention to it - not only has that happened but it's been reported with such great éclat.

The story of Matthew Freud continued, courtesy of a Daily Mail article this week on Kate Moss:

An article in Monday’s Daily Mail (30 May 2016) about Kate Moss’s latest ‘toyboy’ boyfriend, Jake Curtis, brought up some familiar names for those who have been following the Madeleine McCann saga over the years.

Among them are Matthew Freud, former employer of Clarence Mitchell, 2008-9, and Richard Branson...
It was Emma’s brother, Matthew Freud, Clarence Mitchell’s former boss, who recently introduced Kate Moss to Jake. Matthew Freud was married to Elisabeth Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch’s daughter, and they have two children – but are now divorced after a bitter marital break-up. Freud had an illegitimate child behind Emma’s back. The Mail refers to Freud as ‘the controversial PR tycoon’.

Richard Curtis is said himself to have ‘once had a crush’ on Moss, and has admitted that he always writes a ‘Kate Moss character’ into his film scripts. Moss describes Emma Freud and Richard Curtis as ‘my intellectual friends’.

A friend of Kate Moss is quoted in the article as saying: “If you know anything about the Freuds, they’re hardly the most conventional bunch where relationships are concerned”. The Mail adds: “Kate’s connections with the descendants of pioneering psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud bears closer scrutiny”.      

The article goes on to explain how Kate was a nude model for artist Lucian Freud (cousin of Emma Freud) for nine solid months, sitting for Lucian for every single day during those 9 months. Lucian Freud has boasted of having ‘over 500 lovers’. Lucian Freud was well connected to the Kray brothers, as of course was Sir Cliff Richard, as a teenager.  

Moss and Matthew Freud, says the article, ‘have been photographed together countless times, and she rarely has a product launch where the brooding Matthew Freud – who is now dating heiress Jemima Khan – is not in attendance’.

Kate Moss has also closely collaborated with another Freud – Bella, Lucian’s daughter. They work together on designs and are frequently both seen at ‘celebrity parties’.

A friend of Kate Moss explains: “Kate’s cut from the same cloth. She dances between relationships and doesn’t worry too much about the fallout”.

At the age of 29, she “began dating Jamie Burke, then 20, an aspring musician who visited Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island with Richard’s son, his friend Sam Branson. Jamie’s girlfriend at the time was a 23-year-old ‘aspiring model’, but Kate Moss soon edged her out.

I hadn’t realized how many well-known men Kate Moss has been romantically linked with; apparently they include Daniel Craig and Pete Doherty.

Sir Clement Freud, Jake’s grandfather, who lived in Praia da Luz in his last years and befriended the McCanns in the summer of 2007, also gets a mention as “a man of relaxed morals…It was an open secret that his wife had her flings…”  Persistent internet rumours suggested that Sir Clement Freud was one of the MP's and former MPs about to be outed in the media for child sexual abuse. One report claimed there were ‘over 150 complaints of gross indecency against him’, but ‘each one was an individual, so they were unable to take it any further’.

Commenters on this blog directly caused the exposure of Clement Freud in the ITV story. I published an anodyne obituary in 2009 giving my memories of Freud. One commenter wrote:
 
He was a notorious old goat and his pursuit of young women could verge on the sinister. I met one of his young ‘victims’ who told me about a job interview with him turning into a very traumatic experience.
 
And a second wrote the startling
 
Writing as one of his 1000s of sexual ‘victims’, still surviving, terrified as I write for fear he is not yet quite yet dead – the man was an evil, conniving, ruthless user for his own bottomless ego of all he came into contact with.
Our children – boys and girls are all that much safer for his demise.
And that is just the tip of an iceberg of political and media dirty dealings that reaches into the heart of the broken Britain he has left behind him.
His family will now, unfortunately, reap the rage and revenge of those he destroyed and their much needed justice for his many heinous – still untold – actions.
 
Six years later I was contacted by a journalist working for ITV who had leads on Freud and looking for more evidence. He had dug up those comments on my blog. Using the magic of the internet, I was able to trace the last commenter and put them in touch, with their permission, with the ITV team.
 
I also told them an anecdote I myself recalled. I was a young First Year Rep on Dundee University Students Association Council while Clement Freud was Rector. One day the then President of the Students Association, Ian Morris, came out of his office in a terrible mood after a phone call from Freud, saying that Freud had asked him to line up female students for him and was trying to use him as “a pimp”. This was not paedophilia but it was unpleasant – Freud was 35 years older than the students he was targeting.
 
It then all went quiet for a year before ITV contacted me this morning to tell me the story was running.
 
It is hard to know what to make of Freud owning a holiday villa close to where Madeleine McCann disappeared. Clement was apparently not in Portugal at the time. When you add in the fact that the McCanns’ sleazy “spokesman”, Clarence Mitchell, works for Freud’s son Matthew, the coincidences do add up. I am not jumping to any conclusions at present. But I found the following fascinating.
Clement Freud assured Kate McCann she had nothing to fear from the cadaver dogs giving a positive response inside the McCann’s hire car, hired after Madeleine “disappeared”. They had no evidential value. “So what are they going to do? One bark for yes, two barks for no?” asked Freud.
