I've read the article now three times and what I think of it is not printable!!!

Not to minimise the ladies ordeal & suffering but tend to agree it more than appears like a sympathy vote for a certain pair; wonder what OG really think of it all, if they are thinking at all?

I agree Verdi. McCann PR had to step in quickly and squelch the direction this could go in. I'm not sure how successful it's been because Kate's grandfatherly reference to Freud, and how jolly they all were over drinks at his house is distinctly cringe worthy now, and we are again reminded of their callous actions and behaviour.

It's interesting because I would have thought the Freud's were quite powerful people, and just because CF has passed on doesn't mean the rest of the family won't sue for things like this. Bearing in mind this would probably have to have the Murdoch seal of approval, well it's interesting. Ultimately it's just an opinion. The only hard evidence of a connection is that they socialised after Madeleine died and probably before, and the article about the 1 million villa under suspicion.
It builds up a picture in my head of Praia da Luz as a very unpleasant place full of expat sex criminals. It seems odd that Kate and Gerry would know about the paedophile connection in this town, clearly before Madeleine died, and yet still decide to holiday there. How did Gerry come by this information that it was a paedophile hotspot? Was it something that was discussed around the dinner table? I've always thought the Mark Warner resort looked quite run down, I don't wish to insult any residents of Praia da Luz but it surprised me that people on their salaries would stay somewhere like that.

Frankly I think the article is grossly exaggerated - as one has grown to expect from 21st century media reporting.

This woman was a teenager at the time, mixing with the aristocracy - can't tell me she was so naive as to agree to spend the night at the home of a man old enough to be her father. Besides, if it was my kid she wouldn't have been allowed to stay over even if it was Uncle Clay. He helps himself to her virginity but she still stays the night in his bed for another dose of the same the following morning? She returned to the house only to find him in the bathroom covering his dangly bits with a towel (his sporran - I like it:)

I can't even begin to imagine why Clement Freud took it upon himself to invite the McCanns and their chums over for jollies at his villa. Judging by the prompt unprecedented intervention of the UK Ambassador, a host of other notable establishment figures, the European tour hosted by the fair hands of Clarence Mitchell, the tidal wave of support offered by the rich and powerful - I'll wager the invitation was arranged by the controller of this never ending saga.

That's where it all starts to get really interesting, where the taboo subject can be introduced with foundation.

Actually the "bathroom" incident seems odd to me; why go into the bathroom whilst he was bathing? Wouldn't you be running for the hills?

The more I think of it the more "gross" the article is whether exaggerated or not; the same with the recent one of a couple apparently having sex in full view of a little girl in Portugal? The police are investigating after a video of it went viral. Triple gross!!!

The review come investigation is still underway although now with limited "manpower" & I don't anticipate more until the result from the appeal to the SC.

All of these "stories" of paedophiles & burglars is making my head spin & wonder as to the timing?
When in all seriousness facts point to Madeleine sadly having met her demise in the apartment, a point which is obviously being "overlooked" by OG.

Given the apparent wealth of the Eveleighs and Murat's evident closeness with his relatives, it seems inconceivable that he didn't know or interact with Freud on some level.

I can't see any reason at this stage to suppose a connection between Robert Murat and Clement Freud. Freud wasn't a permanent resident at his villa, it was reported that he kept himself to himself - a bit snooty by all accounts. Can't imagine a man like that rubbing shoulders with the likes of Murat, a man with a CV that's made more twists and turns than a sidewinder - if Murat had that level of connection I think he might be a more successful businessman.

Now, dodgy jailbird Max Clifford - that's another matter alogether.

CF's son Matthew is in the PR business. I read a Mail article last night where the journalist was questioning why Matthew gave Clarence Mitchell a job and basically taunting both for a response. Will Matthew throw Mitchell and the McCanns under the bus in other to protect his family name or is he too up to his neck in it? Will the Murdochs wade in and pile on the pressure given the acrimonius divorce between Matthew and Lizzy Murdoch? Will we get further to the truth about Maddie's disappearance with this CF revelation? This could get very interesting indeed.......or not!

We could read in the media that the visit with 3 friends took place the day after the phone call.
Gerry called Phil Wright July 3rd and July 4th and Gerry did not mention anything about this visit or any friends in his blog, Rachel, Russel and Fiona arrived July 10.

No time to go back and look, but did Kate's book come out AFTER CF died and if reference to CF's visit is only in Kate's book and not even on Gerry's blog etc. of the relevant time, then who is still alive to confirm any of the CF stuff and who might have been at the vodka event.

I read also that email exchanges were made after they returned to the UK, cannot recall where, was it the book? Would be interesting if OG have access to those?

All in all, the meetings which took place ( as reported in the book) so far are not verifiable as I have not been able to find anything else & obviously CF is deceased so ~~conveniently~~ he can not concur.

Not one conversation is mentioned by Kate of their sorrow or even CF concern at the disappearance of Madeleine, the "story" evolves around drinking, cooking, eating ( sounds like a jolly) & some advice of which is not clarified. By all accounts Kate shows endearment to this "grandfather" type figure. One thing is the nymphomaniac mention, why ? Was CF partial to that information, if so how? There is nothing to suggest of this ( in 2007 or now) unless you believe in the "swinging" theory, and if that is truth, again how did he know...it was very suggestive and quite rude in my opinion. Often I find it isn't what the McCanns say but what they don't say winkwink

Is all of this a well timed "exercise" in media manipulation?

I need to try and find more if I can but I'm no researcher just a "brainscratcher" big grin

Freud died in 2009. The book "madeleine" was launched for the anniversary in 2011.
There were calls logged to a Wright guy, (forget his first name ) who owned the villa apparently (Freud rented it back) in July and September 2007 I think.

Edit Phillip Wright, calls from GM early July then September; its in the files.

Talking about CF's predilections does nothing to absolve the McCs in the death and disappearance of their daughter nor does it distract us from talking about their possible complicity.

Just like the WBM affair, this is another piece of the puzzle falling into place. It's early days yet so we don't know EXACTLY where these revelations fit but you can bet it is not an unrelated issue.

I don't see this CF story as being good for the McCanns in any way, shape or form. They are now known to have been friends with at least one peadophile. How do you spin that? Let's not forget Amaral has been hinting at paedophilia within the group for some time. If he (Amaral) mentions it again, it might just make the mainstream news.

Indeed this is NOT good for the McCs.

But I expect them to dodge this bullet as well since most if not all of the dead elite pedos are absolved of any wrong doing. Even if it turns out that CF is the not-so-innocent patsy in the death of MBM, it STILL won't be the McCs who are being protected.

How do you send a letter with an invitation for "before Wednesday next" and assume that it will reach its destination in time for a response "before Wednesday next"? In England you have one day mail delivery. Is it one day mail delivery in sleepy little PDL? What if the letter had gone astray or been stuck in the postal system? How long does it take to send and receive a letter in Portugal?

My assumption is therefore that:

1. The letter was hand-delivered - the only way to guarantee the recipient would receive it in good time for both the deadline of "Wednesday next" and the response, or
2. It was couriered - in which case there would be a record somewhere, or
3. It wasn't a letter - it was an email
