Found this to be a useful link outlining the Foreign Office intervention time line for Mc Cann case.
Helpful to be reminded of how quickly interference intervention occurred -how diplomats were removed from case etc.

If there had been no interference or interventions from the UK then it is likely that this case would have been forgotten by now and that justice would have been served.
It is likely that the names of those involved were not notorious household names.
Instead, the case remains high profile,  many of the names of those involved are infamous across many countries - 8 years later. Unbelievable. David Cameron has a duty to get this resolved and to apologise to 'Portugal' for the long reaching effects of that early interference.
