Forensic scientists to join British police in McCann investigation
Analysts want to re-examine evidence retrieved from apartment from which Madeleine went missing in 2007

A team of British forensic analysts are expected to join DCI Andy Redwood and his team of detectives in Portugal this week in a renewed bid to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Portuguese police sources told the Guardian that the scientists have asked to revisit some of the evidence retrieved from the holiday apartment from which the British toddler went missing on 3 May 2007. The forensic evidence gathered at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance has been stored at the National Institute for Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Coimbra in central Portugal.
Detectives and forensic technicians from the Metropolitan police are scheduled to visit the laboratory on Wednesday.
Detectives led by Redwood will meet with their Polícia Judiciária counterparts in Faro on Tuesday to discuss the request.
Police said they had not yet received any official orders from the public prosecutor’s office and that the next phase of the investigation was unlikely to commence for at least a fortnight.
A source close to the case told the Guardian that the request appeared “to focus primarily on the further questioning of some of the suspects brought in by Faro police in the summer”.
In July, Portuguese police quizzed four Portuguese nationals who were declared arguidos, or formal suspects. They also spoke to 11 witnesses.
The questioning of these suspects followed the end of major ground-level searches in Praia da Luz in early June, when Scotland Yard detectives scoured a large patch of scrubland.
The force described the operation as the largest overseas deployment ever undertaken by British police, and said it was the “first phase of this investigation” into Madeleine’s disappearance.
Although the searches turned up no fresh evidence, the Met said detectives had gained an “essential understanding of the activity for which people have used this piece of land” and alluded to “substantial work which is yet to be done in the coming months”.

Hi and well done for posting this article from The Guardian.
Well, it looks like SY have finally come out from under and admitted what they are after. The evidence held by the Portugal. Let's hope they don't get it so that they can destroy the last vestiges to thwart any possible conclusion as to what happened to Madeleine. IMO this is what they have been after all this time.

Standards slipping Pinkie? Try and get your story straight:
From the Mirror:
‘Scotland Yard cops are hoping to speak with Ines Sequeira and get approval to reinterview three suspects’
‘It is thought the Operation Grange detectives may seek a meeting with her before they return to London.’
………………………………………….
New Prosecutor = New chance to try & suck up and be let in to see the PJ’s hand?
………………………………………..
And then from the Guardian:
‘A team of British forensic analysts are expected to join DCI Andy Redwood and his team of detectives in Portugal this week in a renewed bid to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

…………………………………………
Might I suggest the following response from Ines Sequeira:
‘Why don’t you review your own evidence? You’ve had it all in the past.
Oh, silly me, I forgot that you lost, destroyed and contaminated it all. If you think I’m going to let your bungling, beer swilling, pizza gobblers get anywhere near to our evidence you’ve got another think coming.’
And that’s the polite version.

To get a second semi-official opinion and debunk the original findings. Then we'll never hear the end of it.

Re: Police to review evidence collected from apt 5a
"Portuguese police sources told the Guardian" Highly unlikely
A team of forensic scientists. No name?
A source close to the guardian?
Is this typical British media spin?
I am no psychic but I foresee this:
"A team of top forensic scientists (who want to remain anonymous) can now tell us that the DNA found in the McCanns apartment and hire car did not belong to Madeleine. Other tests reveal that an unknown person had in fact entered the apartment.
British police can now rule out the possibility of Madeleines' death in the apartment. This comes as eleven new suspects come under investigation. The McCanns are very pleased with the progress of British police investigation"
That's another profit making story for Clarrie and the woman who called for this review in the first place.

Re: Police to review evidence collected from apt 5a
To be honest when the review into the case was opened I could not understand why reassessing the forensics wasn't the first thing the met did .
Instead we have had uncle Tom cobley and all under suspicion of involvement yet it appears for us looking from the outside in that the forensic evidence and re interviewing the last people to see Madeleine and all other participants in the 'holiday' have not been under the microscope .
Perhaps if they had they would have had a few million left in the coffers .
I hope the portuguese do not let the forensics out of their sight after all this is a portuguese case not a Metropolitan police case . This crime took place abroad not in the UK .
If there had not been so much interferance from the UK in the first place I truly believe this case would have been solved in 2007.

Re: Police to review evidence collected from apt 5a
Apparently SY are already in Portugal but I haven't seen anything - can anyone confirm.
I think the reason they are only now trying to get at the forensic stuff, even though it has been the aim from the start, I think they found they were up against a brick wall. All this time since the start of the Review come Investigation they have been pushing the Portuguese to let them see/have sight of the evidence but they have been stalled all the way. The only reason it's taken so long is that SY has been pushing every other avenue into a corner and nullifying it. The dogs, Payne's, Gaspers etc. All dealt with except the forensics that Portugal hold. How many times have they been over to put pressure on the Portuguese to get this sorted. Maybe behind the scenes political pressure has been used. So once this is dealt with it will be game over. We can all get back into our boxes and shut up.

AR is bound to know that if any suspects are in the Algarve, they'd have fled long ago (ahem). Surely that points to their suspects not being in the Algarve!

That must be where they intend to file any factual evidence the PJ has that would hinder the "investigation"

The one good thing that emerged out of the remapping of judiciary personnel is the change of Public Prosecutor to this case. Just anyone is better than Magalhães e Menezes, who archived the case.
Didn't the three wise judges in the Amaral's Book injunction say that the same evidence place before different Prosecutor may result in different interpretation.
Anyway, new pair of eyes is always good IMO.

Isn't this extremely encouraging..
They are going back to basics. Back to DNA in Apartment 5A. Must be sending a shiver up the spine of a few people. What is more they are making it quite clear that the media reports this.
How can this be bad news for anyone seeking the truth. I am buoyed.

Dear Snra Sequeira,
Am so sorry but I appear to have dropped all the evidence given to me down the toilet. As previously reported Portuguese food plays havoc with my digestive system so have spent most of the working day on the old looby loo. The whoops, evidence down the pan. Easily done.
Really sorry, anyway I can compensate you or put things straight please don't hesitate to ask.
Yours apologetically
