Re: Gerry's fake passport photo
Such a coincidence that Gerry had his wallet stolen on his second visit home!
There are just sooooo many coincidences in this case.
And the wallet contained 'irreplacable' pictures of Madeleine.

Gerry seems to acquired some of his cardiology training whilst in New Zealand.

I'm touched by Kate's managing to spend hours on the touchlines, though!
From either Auckland (where she first worked) or Wellington to Hawkes Bay is a pox of a journey.
Can't have been easy fitting it all in around junior doctors' rotas, either...
My opinions only.

Irish Aunty Phil...
Apologies in advance is this is off-topic -
- I've seen Philomena McCann's nationality described as being 'Irish'...
...would this be on account of her being born there -
-and would that not make John McCann and Trish Cameron Irish, too?
Would the elder McCann siblings hold UK passports also?
Would they be eligible for them?
How would people decide which passport to hold -
- or nationalities to identify with?

Bumping up this post from a couple of weeks ago for you, Aquila -
- in reply to your post on the 'Solved' thread.
Napier's definitely a city - I went to a service at the Cathedral there as a schoolgirl.
Yes, it's famous for its Art Deco heritage - the result of a terrible earthquake in the 1930s.
I regret to say that I know almost nothing of Napier Hospital -
- or how the junior doctor system in NZ worked then re placements and rotations.
Impressive that Gerry managed to captain a soccer team in his spare time, though...!
Why Napier...?
- perhaps Gerry thought it'd be in between Auckland and Wellington?
I do know know that Kate was a doctor down in Wellington for a time.
The rest is anyone's guess.
My thoughts only.

I've been to Napier too. I've done the drive from Wellington to Napier. The population of Napier is about 60,000.missbeetle wrote:missbeetle wrote:missbeetle wrote:Here's another work-related mugshot and biography of Dr Gerry :

The population of Auckland is about 1.4 million.
Now, how many hospitals do you think there are in Napier?
How many hospitals do think there are in Auckland and Wellington?
I'm hoping, as you are the antipodean interested member on the forum, you'd do a bit of research at source as to whether Kate McCann was a doctor in Wellington...'for a time' as you put it.
It's my understanding that you see all things masonic in just about everything - particularly symbols concerned with PDL. Now how about a bit of research into masonic stuff going on in NZ? You're the gal on location aren't you?
Until then, I suppose the forum will continue to receive pretty pointless pictures which I'm sure you probably consider 'though provoking' but I consider to be nothing more than idle gossip with the intention of goading members of the forum to comment in a way akin to a bitchfest at a knitting circle.
I'm sorry you felt you couldn't answer my question on the correct thread.

Cardioloog hoopt op terugkeer Madeleine
Vooral de Britse kranten
staan vol van de verdwijning
van peuter Madeleine
McCann op 3 mei uit het
vakantieappartement in de
Portugese Algarve. Ook cardioloog
Aernout Beek is er
stuk van, want hij heeft in
het verleden intensief met
vader Gerry McCann samengewerkt
op de afdeling cardiovasculaire

zoveel mogelijk publiciteit
genereren, om te laten
zien dat we dit soort afgrijselijkheden

stelt hij beslist.
Zelf heeft Beek posters opgehangen
en is bezig met email
acties, zodat de ontvoering
onder de aandacht van
zoveel mogelijk mensen
komt. “Vorige week had ik
Gerry aan de telefoon”, vertelt
Beek, “en wat opvalt is de
vastberadenheid bij hem en
bij Kate, de moeder van
Madeleine. Ze geven niet op,
ze zijn vastbesloten hun kind
terug te vinden en er in ieder
geval zoveel mogelijk aandacht
voor te vragen. Ze zijn
nu zelfs bij de Paus op

zeer waarschijnlijk op korte
termijn ook naar Nederland.”
Beek en de McCanns zijn
vrienden. “Gerry en ik zijn
begonnen als collega’s”, vervolgt
Beek. “Hij heeft als fellow
gewerkt bij cardiovasculaire

aardige en hardwerkende
collega; vandaar uit is onze
vriendschap ontstaan. Hij en
Kate zijn zeer zorgzame en
liefdevolle ouders, ik vind
het vreselijk dat hen dit
drama is overkomen.”
Beek zegt teleurgesteld te
zijn dat er nog niets is gevonden
maar blijft hopen op een
goede afloop: “Ik wil niet
opgeven. Als we de aandacht
hoog houden dan zorgen we
er enerzijds voor dat de kans
dat Madeleine gevonden
wordt zo groot mogelijk
blijft; anderzijds zien toekomstige,
potentiële kidnappers
dat het ze zeer moeilijk
zal worden gemaakt. We pikken
het gewoonweg niet langer.
Er is nu een soort van
media-sjabloon ontworpen:
in de toekomst gaat dit soort
afgrijselijkheden niet langer
gepaard met de stille trom,
maar met een luidkeels protest
en directe wereldwijde
publiciteit. Daarnaast kunnen
alle publicitaire activiteiten
ook troostvol werken.
Madeleines naam zal namelijk
altijd verbonden blijven
aan deze kruistocht.” ■ LH

Thanks for the translation WMD.
So it just seems as if this Aernout Beek worked with GM at VU Medical in Amsterdam and GM phoned him to ask him to put up some posters.

Well quite Khaleesi, and it must have been a nightmare for Gerry and Kate to see each other with a four hour schlep in a car between Wellington and Napier.Khaleesi wrote:missbeetle wrote:

I posted up in the Solved thread this morning an article from the NZ Herald (I won't duplicate the whole article taken from McCannfiles. This article was dated 11 days after the disappearance of Madeleine.
Here's a snip (my bolding)
Gerry McCann was a "down-to-earth, natural, great guy" said Rovers stalwarts Ian Gearey and Jim Scott, who attended his wedding to Kate McCann eight years ago.
The couple's romance flourished after Mr McCann followed his future wife to New Zealand, Mr Gearey said.
"Kate was working as a doctor in Wellington. He told us he'd come for her, he came to woo her, really. He won her heart and, of course they got together here, and not that terribly long after they got married in the UK."
Mr Gearey had tried to contact the McCanns since Madeline's disappearance, to let the frantic family know their Kiwi mates were there for support.
Mr McCann was a "very, very" talented surgeon who was very well regarded and worked in Hawke's Bay, Mr Gearey said.
Mrs McCann is a GP while her husband is a heart specialist.
" Both of them are lovely people."
...........................................................................
These weren't just any old mates Kahleesi, these mates attended the wedding of K&G. Now it could be an over zealous press but if you look at the actual wording it implies a direct quote.
Is there lots to look at in NZ. It was a hell of a campaign.
Some poor little girl was sighted twice (in the South Island) and her DNA produced to prove it wasn't Madeleine.
Just my opinion of course.

It is my understanding that Kate worked here as a doctor in Wellington, in the 1990s.
This belief - and I offer it in all sincerity - was earned through an overheard conversation -
- at a party in Auckland in late 2007 - years before I took any notice of this case.
A friend of a friend of a friend once worked with Kate McCann...
...that's all I know - and it's enough for me to believe it.
My thoughts only.

A Napier Connection...
Napier Public Hospital closed in 1997, and services transferred 20km away -
- to be amalgamated with Hastings Hospital, becoming the wonderfully named :
(and much more useful than an obelisk statue)
Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
Some other friends the McCanns made in Napier, were the Evanses -
- Dr Steve, and nurse Lottie, resident in Guernsey, Channel Islands :
Steve, a consultant at the Medical Specialist Group, and Gerry, also a doctor, have been friends since they first worked together in Napier, New Zealand.
Lottie, who is a nurse, had gone there with her husband and when Kate went over to work there as a doctor and met Gerry, the four became firm friends.
After their return, they kept in touch with the McCanns and their children, including twins Sean and Amelie, who first came to Guernsey when they were four months old in 2005. Madeleine is said to have particularly loved the beach at Vazon.
(snipped from ThisIsGuernsey, 20th June 2007, with thanks to Pamalam)
Dr Evans also worked at Glenfield and Leicester General Hospitals :
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
(snipped from debretts.com)
He's also another keen runner - runs marathons to raise money for charity.
I'd be interested in Hobs's take on this statement by his wife, though :
(snipped from previous ThisIsGuernsey article)
I think both Steve and I try not to think too much about Madeleine because it doesn’t bear thinking about. We are trying to think about Gerry and Kate instead.
Something to think about, anyway.
