Anyone for scraps?
I thought it might be worthwhile mentioning those scraps of information that stick in the mind but have no obvious connection to anything else...
Here are some of mine...do you have others to add?
1. Rachael Oldfield I think it was claimed (please correct if wrong) that on the night of the "abduction" Kate explained to her over dinner at the Tapas bar that she was wondering whether she was doing the right thing leaving the children alone after the recent "crying" incident... This information only appeared very late, in the last couple of years, I believe and was not in the rogatory statements. It seems odd that Kate would have expressed this worry, since in other interviews she made clear they thought nothing of the "why didn't you come when we crying?" question.
2. There was mention at some point as well - again I think after the rogatory statements - of two of the men laughing over dinner over an incident earlier in the day when one of them had fallen in the water from a boat and had to be pulled out by the other. Does anyone else remember that?
3. Clarence Mitchell's statement that none of the Tapas 9 had mobile phones or watches with them. This was then amended (without any admission or apology) to just not having mobile phones. Is it really credible that they didn't have mobile phones with them? But why make the claim? Is it something to do with the way Kate announced the abduction of Madeleine? Can someone remind me how exactly she is supposed to have done that?
Any other scraps?

Re: Anyone for scraps?
KM mentioning the 'toilet teeth' routine at bedtime for the Madeleine and the twins. It must have taken a while as the children had to share just ONE toothbrush.
GM telling PF that a 'little girl' has gone missing.
GM speaking at the end of his first public appeal..... "We hope to get the best possible outcome for US...and for Madeleine".
KM mentioning that she saw a tea stain on Madeleine's pyjamas on the day she went missing....what was she trying to imply and for what purpose?
I could go on and on and on and on........

Never mentioned this one before because it is so insignificant that it's not worth bothering about, but it did bug me'
Kate McCann emphasising that they drank a glass of "New Zealand" wine
Most of would say that we were "enjoying a quiet drink", or "relaxing with a glass of wine".

When Kate tells us about the "etched for all time" memory of Madeleine in her "peach" smock that was actually pink. Or was it. Her last outfit.

That's a quote from Gerry just in case anyone's wondering! The oddest thing about that one for me was how it found its way into the public domain...someone didn't like him did they?whmon wrote:F**K OFF - I'm not here to enjoy myself.

I think the greater picture here is
1. It made it sound as though it were not just a holiday but some other plan/idea/aim in mind.
2. To 'try to prove' that Maddie had gone on holiday, maybe she did, but proof of it being 'her' in the creche and not a duplicate is not proven.

Also: a strange choice, for isn't Portugal -rightly- famous for its delicious and affordable white wines?

Re: Anyone for scraps?
But what is interesting (" FO, I''m not here to enjoy myself ..") is that the adults in that group evidently were planning to enjoy themselves! The time with the children - the 'happy family time' - seems extremely limited, with adult tennis matches, tennis lessons, jogging, wining and dining in the evenings, taking precedence. To most of us that would represent some kind of actual 'holiday'. A very odd statement.

Re: Anyone for scraps?
Didn’t Kate McCann mention on the Oprah Winfrey show that she hoped that the abductor had given Madeleine her pinkie (blanket) to comfort her/keep her warm, yet the blanket was photographed as being on Madeleine’s bed by the PJ after the “abduction”, but then it mysteriously disappeared, just like the blue bag that was photographed as being in the wardrobe.

Re: Anyone for scraps?
Yes, that lovely new and expensive outfit that Kate put on her 3 year old to go to the play area and the pool. The other daughter wore an orange coloured t-shirt and shorts, or t-shirt type dress, the sort of thing that you would put your child in to play by the poolside. Why was one child over dressed? Why was Kate thinking how lovely Madeleine looked and not how lovely her two girls looked?oakeso wrote:When Kate tells us about the "etched for all time" memory of Madeleine in her "peach" smock that was actually pink. Re: Anyone for scraps?
In David Payne's rogatory statement where he describes seeing Kate in the apartment with her children the evening Madeleine went missing, and describes the children as in white, like angels and at peace.

Great point Sharon. when Kate , in " madeleine " describes her labour....bloody hard work but she was a " quiet labourer" "I guess I was never one to make a fuss. "

Re: Anyone for scraps?
Why does KM tell us quite early in the book (after the large and irrelevant Me, Me, Me section) that GM had broken the shutters because of the 'Gerry touch'? Was it some sort of poor attempt to explain away the phone calls to relatives to say that the shutters had been tampered with? Could she have thought that she could later say 'After the little girl was taken, I noticed that the shutters were broken and in my panic I had forgotten that it was Gerry who had broken them and assumed they had been jemmied'.
Even though it was later shown that the shutters were not broken.

They were different shutters, not the shutters in the children's bedroom.whmon wrote:Why does KM tell us quite early in the book (after the large and irrelevant Me, Me, Me section) that GM had broken the shutters because of the 'Gerry touch'? Re: Anyone for scraps?
The careful removing of the hair bead, that was not a hair bead, and the laborious reference to it in the book.
Madeleine did not have it that I can see on the video of the bus footage. Therefore, it must have happened on holiday. The memory would one write about in that case is the child's excitement at getting it put in, who did it, where etc. Not taking it out.

Re: Anyone for scraps?
Lots of scraps!
Gerry's Achilles heel injury that was better in a minute.
The bloody footprint in the apartment.
The maps/documents found under the sofa - left by Justine McGuiness?
Serge Malinka's burned out car and the message on the pavement.
The reluctant child on Payne's lap in the greyscale pic - not his daughter but who?
The bag with the fleece, shower curtain etc found near the airport.
Useful thread!

Anyone for scraps
So do I NFWTD,its just so obvious, can,t believe anyone would think it was Madeleine,I know where I think she was at that moment in time, which is why Gerry had to "throw" it away when it stopped working,IMO

Re: Anyone for scraps?
Long time no hear Brilynn. I'm not sure what you mean. I don't think it's known when those photos were taken so how would you know where Madeleine was at the time and what was it that Gerry threw away?

Good point. And if you have daughters, you will know it is very difficult to get them out without pulling a few hairs out too.( Would have been ideal for analysis.)sami wrote:The careful removing of the hair bead, that was not a hair bead, and the laborious reference to it in the book.

Re: Anyone for scraps?
That stuck in my mind too - maybe Gerry was meant to break the shutters to make the break in look more authentic but for some reason he didn't manage to do so - either because it was harder than he thought, or because he was interrupted in the act. I've always wondered why they circulated the story of the broken shutters but didn't actually break them - that would have been much more authentic!whmon wrote:Why does KM tell us quite early in the book (after the large and irrelevant Me, Me, Me section) that GM had broken the shutters because of the 'Gerry touch'? He's a doctor -they are more known for the careful application of their hands...not some sort of hamfisted navvie type. How much strength would you have to apply to break shutters?whmon wrote:Why does KM tell us quite early in the book (after the large and irrelevant Me, Me, Me section) that GM had broken the shutters because of the 'Gerry touch'?
