Did they eat with the "downstairs" staff then? All sounds rather grand staying at the ambassador's residence, but doesn't sound as though they socialised with the ambassador. Were their bedrooms up in the attic I wonder?

Ambassadors tend to have a full social programme. as the McCanns were shoehorned into an audience with the Pope, he wouldn't be likely to be free in the evening.

The Ambassadors' immediate superior would be a whiehall mandarin whose immediate superior would be the secretary of state for Foreign Affairs.
In short, if the FO tells the ambassador they'd like him to put the McCanns up, he does exactly that - thus providing a double whammy of government and religious approval/acceptance of the McCann.
It should have worked and as from that moment the McCanns should have been home and dry.

So they went to Rome because their beautiful little girl had disappeared, stayed at the Ambassador's residence and had a great meal and great conversation. Errr what has any of that got to do with a true account of what happened to Maddie?

I know that the last thing on my mind would have been having great conversation and a great meal, but as frequently told by some model posters on the forum, we are all different I suppose.

The more I see on the internet, the more I shake my head at what I read some times.

Dr Amarals book caused no distress whatsoever as the vile pair have no shame at all , the only person who suffers in this case is the dead child and Dr Amaral , I hope the Judge rules in favour of Dr Amaral and when they vile pair come in front of the court to give their sob stories of woe to the press , they get arrested and charged for neglect , this the world would call Justice as they took the people of the world for a ride for 7 years when they were both guilty as hell for neglect . Does Kate not remember the media claimed that the hideous pair left under 4 year old children on their own? Is this not neglect? So how can she claim DR Amarals book caused her "suffering" ?

I am pretty sure it was the MC's that claimed this, not the press.

They may well have been "Home and dry" years ago if they hadn't clocked that they could get at the money from the sales of Mr Amaral's book !

Supporters of the Mccann couple say why do they keep themselves in the limelight if they were guilty of anything ?

Imo, had they not brought that libel charge against Mr Amaral all those years ago they may well have withdrawn from "public life" a long time ago - but if they want to get their hands on the million they are hoping to win and gain public sympathy from the "suffering" Mr Amaral put them through, then imo, they have had no option but to keep up public " appearances " at least until the trial is over .
