Mum claims Madeleine McCann kidnappers may have tried to snatch her child in Algarve weeks beforehand

Detectives are to interview the mother whose drink was spiked by gypsy gang who showed an unnatural interest in her fair-haired daughter
Target: Mum with daughter on terror holiday
Madeleine McCann’s kidnappers may have tried to snatch another blonde British toddlerweeks before she vanished.
A mum has told Scotland Yard she believes “gypsy” restaurant staff in the Algarve spiked her drink then tried to carry her year-old daughter to a getaway car waiting outside.
She says she reported the dramatic incident to the Find Madeleine campaign line in 2007, but they were then too busy pursuing other lines of inquiry.
But now police from Operation Grange are set to interview the mum for a second time in two months in the hope it will uncover new evidence in the hunt for Madeleine.
The 30-year-old, who does not want to be named, was holidaying with her mother and her daughter in Montechoro near Albufeira – 30 miles from Praia da Luz where Maddie, three, vanished six weeks later.
She says she became aware of a gang of migrants from the former Soviet Union, working on the resort’s strip, taking a sinister interest in her girl.
“It was terrifying, like something out of a film,” said the mum. “From the first day of the holiday, a young dark-haired man kept popping up wherever we went. We would arrive at a restaurant and he’d show up minutes later as though he had been tipped off.
“It was low season so everywhere was quiet. There were about three or four restaurants open but the same staff would show up where we were. They all knew the dark-haired man. It felt like the Eastern European mafia was watching us.
“On the third night the man walked up to us, and chatted to us – but all about my daughter. He was obsessed, playing with her, stroking her hair. It was very over-familiar. He kept touching her and commenting on her blonde hair.
“She was struggling to eat her fish fingers and he picked them up and tried to feed them to her. It was all very uncomfortable.
“He was about 25 and my mum told him it was unusual to see someone his age interested in children. He said he had nephews back home. And he kept saying how cute she was,” said the mum.
The night before their flight home, things took a nightmarish twist. “He knew we were leaving,” said the mum. “We went into a restaurant and he arrived.
“There was a middle-aged couple who had served us before at another place. They were all over my daughter.
“They told me they missed their children in Uzbekistan and begged me to let them hold her.”
In the meantime they had served her with a glass of rosé wine.
“Within half an hour I felt really dizzy,” said the mum. “I knew I’d been drugged. It was only us in the restaurant and I felt vulnerable. I stood up and told mum we had to leave. As I did, the woman lifted my daughter out of her high chair and walked to the door.
“I heard an engine running. The man had vanished. I was terrified and managed to grab her back and barge the woman out of the way.
“We ran back to the hotel in the dark and bolted ourselves in the room. We were so frightened.”
The mum contacted police last October after a blonde girl found living with Roma gypsies in Greece was mistakenly thought to be Madeleine.
She said: “I’ve given a statement to Scotland Yard, and they are arranging to interview me again.
“I’ll do anything I can to help. I didn’t want to push it at the time because the investigators had their own theories. But now I’m speaking out. I can’t be the only mum who has had a near-miss. Someone might know something that could change the investigation.
“Police are taking what happened to us seriously.”
Her revelation comes days after it was revealed another family fear their young daughter was almost snatched in the Algarve in 2010.
Met detectives are still awaiting permission to question three ex-staff at the complex in Praia da Luzwhere the McCanns were staying in May 2007.

Re: MIRROR, MIRROR, ON THE WALL, WHOSE "EXCLUSIVE STORY" IS DAFTEST OF ALL?
So, in just this one 'fart-icle' we have Swarthy Eastern guys, the Mafia, the 'soothing' middle aged couple, Roma gypsies and migrants!
That LOT has to be a WORLD 'exclusive', for the Mirror or anyone else in the UK Madia!
Andy's wildest dream come true.
ALL the Met's child snatching, kidnapping, abducting 'suspects' mentioned on one page!
Brilliant!

I find the most outrageous part of this story is the fact that the kid was eating fish fingers in the restaurant. On holiday in a foreign land noted for interesting cuisine..and the kid's eating fish fingers. Some people should never leave home.

It's almost as though it's a competition by the red-tops to see who can print the most ridiculous story - and get away with it. A "what story will we feed the idiots today"-style competition. And I agree - so far this has to be the winner.

The article includes such trifling info as fish fingers and rosé wine (as opposed to sea bass and NZ plonk).Bishop Brennan wrote:It's almost as though it's a competition by the red-tops to see who can print the most ridiculous story - and get away with it. I love one of the underlying messages (there are a few depending on why this article was chosen to be re-cycled/was written in the first place):
1. Don't go on foreign holidays - especially to Portugal as foreigners are targeting you to steal your children.
2. Definitely don't go on a foreign holiday (especially to Portugal) if you are British and have a blonde child.
3. If you ignore points 1 and 2, never drink local wine or talk to anyone 'foreign'.
4. In addition to point 3, take with you on your 'foreign' holiday personal alarms, tracking devices for your kids, a locking device for your hotel room and a surveillance camera.
5. Be afraid.
OR you can adopt the British way (sorry Clarence)
1. Go on holiday with your kids. Enjoy yourself and don't leave them alone whilst you go out on the lash. This buries points 1 to 5.

"The mum contacted police last October after a blonde girl found living with Roma gypsies in Greece was mistakenly thought to be Madeleine."
Sounds like a carefully timed Grange leak to me. Unidentifiable pixilated mum, attends unidentified restaurant, at an unknown time. Claims to have reported incident to unknown police in 2007 but knows the report cannot be verified. Therefore resurfaces some six years later even though throughout those years there had been similar reports of swarthy gypsies walking off with kids. Just like Crecheman.

After such a detailed story as the above, what could possibly be the point of Scotland Yard's finest detectives interviewing her again?
To find out what kind of fish were in the fish fingers?

This sounds like a line I've heard before from parents.
Not forgetting the helpful reminder the mirror have given us to say that the mother reported this information to find Madeleine investigation line who didn't follow up her info..Curious

In other words, an attention-seeking crank. Almost certainly making it up. May even believe it. Useful only to SY as part of a vague 'swarthy abductor, never found' closure of the case?

How very fascinating.
I was in Montechoro at the time in question and don't remember these Eastern European types hanging around.
I don't want to go out on a limb here but.... maybe it's not true. Imagine that!

Re: MIRROR, MIRROR, ON THE WALL, WHOSE "EXCLUSIVE STORY" IS DAFTEST OF ALL?
Interesting that this time there's no usual comment from the parents or CM, something along the lines of 'the parents are buoyed by this development etc etc'.
Also, I thought it was interesting how these suspects were mentioned as being from 'the former Soviet union' - about as vague as you can possibly make it. How many Uzbekistanis come to work in Portugal each year I wonder?
Sounds to me like this woman either made the whole thing up, or she did go to the restaurant, but she drank a little too much wine, making her memory and interpretation of events somewhat hazy!

That last sentence alone, too, does sound very very familiar, doesn't it?

I found this link to a spoof story supposedly written by Gemma Aldridge (whom I don't recall hearing of before) so she is known for being less than accurate to put it politely.

Actually, that story is not so very far-fetched when you consider this about what goes on at week-long [sic] gay crystal meth-fuelled orgies:

Re: MIRROR, MIRROR, ON THE WALL, WHOSE "EXCLUSIVE STORY" IS DAFTEST OF ALL?
One of the most powerful psychological tricks is to make a statement and then say lots of things based on that statement. This has the effect of making the first statement 'true' for most people. It's only when you stop and stand way back that you stand a chance of seeing that everything you're hearing or looking at is built on...nothing. Trouble is almost nobody does stand back and see it.
So now we have a new story each day it seems; each one a 'possible' (and to the casual reader 'plausible') variant on something that unfortunately never happened and for which there is no evidence apart from the say-so of the prime suspects.
Because the public has been effectively denied that first, foundational piece of information (the fact that, according to the police, no abduction took place) it can be sold a million possible variants of how an abduction happened - which is what we're seeing now. It is very Orwellian and it is entirely the result of manipulation of the media: silence the truth and drown out its voice with your version.
Intelligent people sometimes don't want to believe it is as simple as this but the evidence of this case (and many others) is that it is. As we know, the McCanns have put all their energy into preserving the foundation of this massive tower of media: the idea that there was an abduction.
So long as the most salient facts (no evidence for abduction, a strong indication of a death in 5A and the only source of the abduction theory is the prime suspects in the child's disappearance and their supporters) continue to suppressed by Clarence Mitchell (using the immoral mainstream media) then this circus will continue.
Sadly, I doubt - even when the truth comes out - that the MSM will be called to account for their eagerness to exploit Mitchell's cynical fantasies for their own gain.

Re: MIRROR, MIRROR, ON THE WALL, WHOSE "EXCLUSIVE STORY" IS DAFTEST OF ALL?
PP, what a great [ simple yet nail -on- the -head ] analysis. Why I posted the JFK quote to go with my membership here.
The media are mighty and CM and co are all about PR.
The police will happily allow the smoke and mirrors to continue while they get on with establishing facts and go where the evidence leads them, they are interested in establishing what happened not what was claimed to have happened, imo.
The truth will out eventually as the lid is off the pot, it is just a matter of dogged hard work and patience.
Is Tannerman still on OFM? If so, it is allowed to stay by the police because they are not interested in him any more but are fully aware of why he is there , imo. He can be ignored as he is not interfering with their new lines of enquiry, and the SY site makes them very clear, regardless of media misdirection and spin.

Yes, russiandoll, Tannerman is still there.
Both the Melissa Little sketch, orchestrated by Brian Kennedy and not made available to the public and press until late October 2007, and a still image of the back of Tannerman from the 2009 Mentorn Media/Channel 4 documentary-with-reconstruction (the 'Mockumentary') are there, in the same place, as they always have been.
But there has been a significant change of wording (not sure if this has been posted elsewhere yet).
The Find Madeleine text accompanying Tannerman now reads as follows (I've highlighted the change in red):
++++++++++++
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Have you seen these men? Do you know who they might be?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
These two pictures show a man carrying a child away from the family's apartment. This sighting was seen by a witness at 21:15 on the evening of Thursday, May 3rd, 2007.
Based or more recent information, the Metropolitan Police now believe this man may represent a guest at the Ocean Club who was carrying his daughter back to their apartment. However as it is not possible to be certain that these two men are actually the same person, if you have seen this man in the pictures or suspect who it may be, please contact the Metropolitan Police's OPERATION GRANGE on 0207 321 9251 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 0207 321 9251 end_of_the_skype_highlighting (0044 207 321 9251 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 0044 207 321 9251 end_of_the_skype_highlighting from outside the UK) or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].uk and/or the Find Madeleine team on +44 845 838 4699 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting +44 845 838 4699 end_of_the_skype_highlighting or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

This may appear to be a clever tactic by the McCanns and their formidable team.
But I don't think it is.
One of the Met's finest, DCI Andy Redwood, has said: "I've found him! Ive traced him! I've identified him! I've eliminated him!" Not only that, but audience surveys showed that 6.7 million people saw this BBC broadcast (CrimeWatch, 14 Oct 2013) and were told that Redwood had had a 'revelation moment' and realised that Jane Tanner was right after all. It was the bloke from the creche.
The McCann Team, a full four months after this broadcast, has the audacity to say to the Met: "You, the Head of Operation Grange, might be wrong about this".
The farce therefore continues with the McCann Team defying the £7 million Operation Grange and asking the public: Did you see another bloke
* looking exactly the same as the man carrying his child from the creche (in the wrong direction),
* wearing identical clothing,
* walking in the same place,
* walking in the same direction,
* also carrying a young blond girl in exactly the child in the same way, and
* the child wearing exactly the same kind of pyjamas.
Surely the public relations and reputation management advisers to the McCann Team ought to earn their fat fees by telling the McCanns to end the nonsense and remove Tannerman forthwith.
Is it not an insult to the good, professional name of 'Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Redwood of the Metropolitan Police Force' to keep Tannerman up there one second longer?

Re: MIRROR, MIRROR, ON THE WALL, WHOSE "EXCLUSIVE STORY" IS DAFTEST OF ALL?
It is throwing down the gauntlet to Redwood all right, defiant and arrogant.
The wording you have highlighted in red reads to me exactly the same as when it was posted on another thread dealing with OFM site, some weeks ago, when there was a lively debate about this statement and a discussion of almost certain [AR] and impossible to be certain [ Team McCann]. SEMANTICSRUS.
Must go and re -read that thread to spot any differences, but just reading your post now, I do not see any change in the wording.

Tony, this was posted on the lively thread " McCanns dispute Redwood's dismissal of Tannerman". The crucial thing is, it is still there, still ignored despite the conflict with SY who are going down another route. It is very interesting, isn't it? Left there SEEMINGLY with the blessing of SY.

@PP
I agree with your comments russiandoll but I think that the police are in a position where they cannot comment or take action to stop the spin coming from the McCann side.
When Tannerman was eliminated, the reason given was that he had been traced.
To stop the spin or refute all the tales of burglars, Roma, etc. etc. would require the police to give explanations as to why these various swarthies are not considered suspects.
If the articles published this weekend were not meant as distractions, maybe they were fishing expeditions to draw out information about the investigation.
That the police don't feel the need to comment, in my opinion, is a good sign.

Poe, that's what I've also thought. CM and co may well be trying to get information about the investigation by prompting SY to comment. They are so keen to keep stating that SY are keeping them up to date with all developments, but I doubt they are. Where's this assistente status they were supposed to be receiving?
