Thinking it through, we have been told by Mr Hairspray that the Team are being kept abreast of all developments by the Yard.
So if that is true and if the Yard believe that she has been abducted why would the McCann’s now seek to negotiate?
We are led to believe from the details of the libel case leaked to the Mirror and the People that two tenets of the claim were:
1) That Amaral's claims were false.
2) The "search for Madeleine" had been, and was continuing to be, damaged by the inference from GA's "thesis" that the child was dead.
If they have been kept up to date with the review (as Clarence “Falcon For Men” claims) and the review was coming to an abduction conclusion why would the McCann’s seek a suspension of the trial now?
After all such a verdict from the Yard would validate two of their claims against Amaral.
There is the issue of what Amaral knew at that time but that has always been there ever since they started their action.
Positive news that the Yard had validated the abduction thesis would surely have put their case in a much stronger position now than it ever had been.
If the Review was coming to the conclusion of abduction that would exonerate the parents and the Yard would no doubt be able to give the parents details of where the investigation is headed in terms of leads and developments.
Armed with that information they surely would have pushed on with the case against Amaral knowing two of their claims were now being confirmed by the Yard.
If that was indeed happening can you imagine either of them but Kate in particular wanting to let Amaral off the hook and settle now?
If they aren’t being kept informed then that must mean they have reached the conclusion, and the frequent Yard trips to Portugal must have helped focus minds and bowels at Rothley Towers, that the review is not going in the direction they want and they may need to cut and run in the Amaral case in order to divert all funds and legal powers to deal with the outcome of the review.

It’s interesting to note that since the express article and the Blacksmith blogs the average guest attendance has been around 200 shooting well up from it’s recent norm, hence the sudden presence of the professional trolls who will unquestionably turn enquiring minds away from what to the unsuspecting guest will appear pointless bickering. You make a good point about them being paid, I for one wouldn’t bet against it, time and again no other purpose than to derail a thread Just as when Tony posted on the Aus Footie Forum they carpet bombed the members into submission with their one line rubbish. I’m a great believer in free speech but when a posters sole intent is to disrupt the free flow of honest information to others in a complex case such as this then they forfeit that right. As Nina said it is interesting to note the threads they disrupt. The Kiko kicker should stand out. If you are unaware of who they are trying to derail with that name you can follow him on twitter as ‘Kikoratton’. He is or was a 30 year intelligence officer, GCHQ. In my opinion he is an excellent investigator, thorough to a fault from what I can see, perceptive and he possesses that most important of qualities – intuition. Most people dismiss his theory out of hand more often than not because it sounds preposterous to them, preposterous in a world stacked with seemningly insane acts which a human being has, does and will carry out in its own self interest. I myself am beyond surprise at what the human psyche is criminally capable of. Others dismiss because they simply cannot grasp it or find it far fetched, fair enough at least they gave the info a read. He submitted a professional 30 page report to SY about 18 months ago which has yet to be acknowledged. Bizarre, not even common courtesy considering the man’s credentials and that his theory is backed with credible evidence and if correct would most certainly be the very weakest link in the chain. Very weak. Some people have some serious explaining to do not least of all Gerry.
He backs up evidentially everything he says and the trolls don’t go near him on twitter. Nor has the McCann legal machine ventured near him.
He may not have it all right but for what it's worth in my personal opinion he is close to it. It is worth taking a look on twitter, you don’t have to have an account to work back through his tweets coupled with the very lengthy and complex crèche thread here.
Anyway, good post Ange.

I was wondering how Pat Brown's 'Cease and Desist' action against the McCanns was coming along and found from this post 8 September 2012 that she is effectively dropping it for reasons of cost and jurisdiction - see link http://patbrownprofiling.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=mccann
She intends publishing a book in America with GA:
'After a goodly period of time trying to decide what to do, it seemed best to force the McCanns' hand in the US rather than the UK. I decided that a book published in the United States with an American publisher puts the ball in my court. My literary agent and I are working to secure a publisher for a book which would be a collaboration between myself and Dr. Amaral bringing in all the issues of the case before a larger audience without the stranglehold the British press and Carter Ruck.'
Looking forward to it Pat!

Three cheers for the forum administrators / owners
Further to Monkey Mind's posts, may I too add my appreciation and thanks.
I hope that genuine posters won't be put off by (possibly paid) agitators. The latter can be very amusing; probably not intentionally as they seem to be a humourless bunch but it's hard sometimes not to fall about laughing over what they come out with.

With the McCanns publicly admitting they've put their "search" on hold pending the review findings, they cannot then claim Amaral is hindering said search. And according to them, the search was put on hold nearly a year ago. Why didn't they initiate an out-of-court settlement then?

Madeleine McCann - Scotland Yard back in Portugal
by Brendan de Beer
A team of Scotland Yard investigators appointed to investigate the disappearance of British toddler Madeleine McCann was in Portugal this week to exchange information with its Portuguese counterparts at the Polícia Judiciária (PJ).
The British inspectors arrived in Oporto on Monday where they reportedly discussed the current status of the investigation.
Operation Grange, the name of the investigative review into the case, commenced in May 2011, but only started in Portugal last winter.
At the time, it was decided the Oporto-branch of the PJ, led by Helena Monteiro, would be the best option to liaise with Scotland Yard.
Previously, the case had been handed to the PJ in Portimão, then in Faro, and later in Lisbon.
In the UK, a murder team within the Homicide and Serious Crime Command was tasked to conduct the review and is led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood. Estimates are the review has cost British taxpayers close to 2.5 million euros.
Work of the team involves close collaboration with a senior investigating officer from the PJ and detectives have been to Portugal several times.
Throughout the course of the review officers have been in close contact with the McCann family who have been assigned a Family Liaison Officer.
The review team say they are in a unique position in that their task is to compile and review material from three separate strands - the Portuguese investigation, inquiries by UK law enforcement agencies, and the work of private investigators/agencies.
Officers have been going through that material which they believe amounts to around 40,000 pieces of information equating to approximately 100,000 pages.
The objective of the review team is to work with the Portuguese authorities with a view to having the case, which has remained closed since 2008, re-opened in due course, Scotland Yard said.
“From the outset we have approached this review with a completely open mind, placing Madeleine McCann at the heart of everything we do. We are working on the basis of two possibilities here. One is that Madeleine is still alive; and the second that she is sadly dead”, DCI Andy Redwood said last year.
Meanwhile, the defamation case the McCann family launched against former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral was this week reportedly suspended by a Lisbon court.
Kate and Gerry McCann have sued Amaral for 1.2 million euros in damages, but reports stated this week the case has been put on hold due to apparent attempts by both parties to reach an out-of-court settlement.
The case centres around the publication of a best-selling book by Amaral, The Truth of the Lie, which was later transformed into a television documentary shown on national television.
In a related story, it was reported this week that more than 1.2 million euros was made from Kate McCann’s book about her missing daughter.
“Income from the book has significantly improved the position”, of the funds’ accounts, its directors said this week, who added: “This will continue as a result of publication in other countries and the release of the paperback.”
Madeleine’s Fund climbed to around 2.5 million euros in the immediate months after her disappearance in May 2007, but in 2009, Gerry McCann told The Portugal News, “We are in danger of running out of money by the end of the year.”
While the Fund has admitted it has scaled back following UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s creation of Operation Grange, it revealed that it still pays for “a 24-hour, 7 day a week telephone line to receive and capture information from around the world which may assist the investigation while also supporting a small investigation team, including a Portuguese speaker to help with the above and with campaign activities.”

The article states " apparrent attempts by both parties " to reach a settlement. As I have stated previously, and been criticised for, Amaral is not going to get away scot free. The McCanns will not ask for their original demands and it will be interesting to see what the proposed settlement is and what Amaral is prepared to concede.

A timely reminder I think of a blog which expresses the situation very well.
The McCanns and the British media deserve nothing but utter contempt.

And?? It does take both parties to enter into negotiations which is what that article has stated.
It hasn't said who asked for them.

Yes, agreed, I have mentioned it already on this thread Chatelaine. It's ok to quote short posts, up to 3 maybe, like this one, but long, long, posts, and then to have a whole lot more as well all cascading one under another is very off putting. So please to all can we copy and paste if a long post and use the quote button at the top of reply box.

Someone has to explain how the "abductor" got in, sedated three children, picked up one, turned it round, and exited . . within 1 minute and 20 seconds. If you can't do that - there was no abduction. (These are their timings, not mine.)

Mel, no, you are not the only one thinking it's all very strange. All 1001 McVersions of it. Starting with the "jemmied shutter" that never was. etc. etc.

The 24/7 phoneline they set up goes to an answerphone. I'd have the phone on me constantly. Just saying.
They aren't employing anyone to search for Madeleine and say they've faith in NSY review to find her. Yet they are still asking for donations. What is the money for?
Around 90% of all the donations has so far been spent on litigation, suing people (24 last I heard). Why spend money suing everyone but stop searching for their missing child?
Their old PI ripped them off for half a million pounds but they aren't suing him. They are however suing the police officer who gave them the results of the forensics.
This seems to be all about the couple and nothing to do with trying to find their little girl, who, despite them informing the world on numerous occasions "Madeleine is alive and findable and that they "are leaving no stone unturned", they aren't looking or flipping stones.
Am I the only person who thinks there's something very strange about all this?

Aha, Brendan to the rescue.
Bravo the mccanns and their slow-boat spin final destination UK, transisting at Olive Press, final stop copycat Sun.
That has Mccanns mould all over it, Not typical of Portuguese journalism style.
Loaded with pro-mccanns quotes from MET and Mr. Hairspray about how Kate ploughed million to save the Fund. And nothing about who initiated the suspension of trial.
Who could Brendan source be? PR Lift Consultancy? Or.........? Someone well kept in the loop of things by the look of it!
That said, Brendan had done some independent homework.
She states "Operation Grange commenced in May 2011, but only started in Portugal last winter."
Surely that can't be right. We are in year 2013 already. Winter 2011 more likely.
She also said "a murder team within the Homicide and Serious Crime Command was tasked to conduct the review"
"Work of the team involves close collaboration with a senior investigating officer from the PJ and detectives have been to Portugal several times."
Again! Who was the laison Officer the last time? Bob Small? or call me "Stu" Prior?
A Portuguese speaker? Whatever for?
Did they expect callers to be Portuguese. Judging by the pseudo sightings, Mccanns has been all over the world, nearly!
Also posters been saying they tried line and found it manned by automated phone system on an 0845 high cost paying number! Who is lying?

While the Fund has admitted it has scaled back following UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s creation of Operation Grange, it revealed that it still pays for “a 24-hour, 7 day a week telephone line to receive and capture information from around the world which may assist the investigation while also supporting a small investigation team, including a Portuguese speaker to help with the above and with campaign activities.”

They Really Don't
The poor boobies in the McCann camp think this is some temporary blip that they'll weather if they keep their heads down. They can't get to grips with what's going on. So let's spell out why the libel trial suspension is no ordinary news item.
Since
2008 and the publication of Goncalo Amaral's book the strategy of the
parents and their team has been simple, as all the best deceptions are:
Deliberately
highlighting the tabloid rubbish of autumn 2007 against them so that
everyone, from the house of Commons to Oprah Winfrey to the on-line
audience for the Leveson inquiry, knows the mad accusations by heart,
while muffling and blanketing the truly dangerous, accurate, stuff from
beginning to end.
That's
it folks, it's that simple: no need for hidden allies, protection or
political help. That is the plan that they have consistently followed
and it's worked a treat. But only by keeping the lid on Amaral
and the hard core of truth about the PJ investigation. Bit by bit the
contents have dribbled out and the pair have struggled to screw the lid
down even tighter. The steam started to rise in Lisbon in 2010 and
spouted out with Kate McCann's ill-conceived Madeleine. Now, after five years, the pot has finally burst in their faces.
Their
proven lies about the course of the PJ investigation go back not to May
2007, where so much is still uncertain or a matter of opinion, but to
the beginning of August of that year. That is when the proof of
Kate and Gerry McCann's attempt to prevent the UK public finding out
about the details of the investigation at any cost becomes visible.
And
that's why the end of the case against Goncalo Amaral – for it will not
be resumed in six months – is so crucial. That's why the Bureau splashed it.
From Beginning to End
Leaving
aside the couple's role earlier in the investigation, at all the
subsequent crucial junctures of the affair the parents have either lied
or deliberately misrepresented or muffled events to deceive the British
public about the interrupted investigation.
On
August 2 2007 they began the calculated lying about the police
activities against them which form the core of Amaral's claims. In
summer 2008 they deliberately misrepresented the Portuguese archiving
summary which had confirmed the Seven's refusal to co-operate with the
inquiry and the McCanns' failure to "demonstrate their innocence". In
January 2009 they secretly commenced the silencing and libel actions
against Amaral while lying on the greatest possible scale that they
were in Portugal for different reasons. In
2010 the Portuguese courts demolished their human rights claim against
Amaral and one of the three legs of their libel claim. There was no
media statement from the McCanns. In
January 2013 the McCanns accepted defeat in their libel claim but
refused to make any statement or answer any questions about the matter. The Proof
The Beginning
On
August 2 2007 a police squad turned the McCanns over. The house was
searched, possessions were seized and they were left, according to Kate
McCann, with "just the clothes they were wearing." Later their car was
seized for forensic examination.
The
lies which both the McCanns told on that date and afterwards – outright
porkies – to prevent the UK public discovering anything of the truth
about the investigation are listed in these Bureau archives below. Kate McCann's attempted excuse in Madeleine
(page 206) that they "had no choice" but to lie demonstrates how lying
is their preferred or instinctive mode of operation when in a tight
spot. The lying about the investigation and Amaral has never stopped
since then.

The Archiving Summary
This
is the Team's précis of the summary which they fed to the UK press on
publication and which, in the usual way of the great days of Team McCann
spin, was written up in the same words in numerous papers. This one
comes from the Standard. The dishonesty and the motive are quite manifest.
“The
Portuguese police inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann
was condemned in the strongest terms by the country's public
prosecutors, new documents revealed today." [a deliberate lie; it was not.]
Detectives
were criticised for establishing "no element of proof " about what
happened to Madeleine or even whether she was alive or dead.”[a deliberate lie; they were not]
“A
source close to the McCanns' legal team said action against the
Portuguese police was now increasingly likely. He said: "Given this
blatant misrepresentation of evidence, legal action against the
Portuguese police is very much on the agenda. [another deliberate lie; there was no "misrepresentation of evidence. We still await the legal action against the PJ].
"The
lawyers are considering very seriously whether action needs to be taken
against individual officers when evidence was clearly misrepresented in
such obvious ways at such crucial times." [see above].
Portugal and Duarte
As we know from Madeleine
Gerry McCann went to Portugal specifically to plot the libel claim and
gagging order with Duarte. In perhaps the most prolonged and widespread
example of his gratuitous lying he gave interview after interview
stating that he was there for other reasons.http://www.mccannfiles.com/id107.html
Portuguese Appeal Courts
Not only was Amaral vindicated but the judges, as Kate McCann's Madeleine let
slip, knocked away the third leg of the libel claim, damage to the
so-called search. She writes: "The latest verdict was that Amaral’s
poisonous allegations did not damage our investigation in any way."
That's one of the three libel claims dead.
She
and Gerry McCann had known since 2009 that proving Amaral's
interpretation of events in the apartment, the subject of the main claim
of the three would be very difficult. When announcing the dropping of
the libel case against Tal y Qual then Mitchell had said:
"The libel action against Tal & Qual
has been dropped for a number of reasons. Firstly, the newspaper went
bust some time ago. Secondly Tal & Qual could probably have mounted a
defence, as they were reporting what a certain police officer believed
at the time." Which is the same 100% defence –"genuine belief that
something is true" – which worked for Mad Marcos and would work for
Amaral in court.
So much for Clarence's version. The Telegraph,
to whom he had given the story, was rather more blunt: "This week the
couple withdrew their defamation action after being advised that the
newspaper had a strong defence under Portuguese law. It could argue the
story was published in good faith because senior police officers did at
the time believe the McCanns may have been implicated in the case."
That's two of the three claims dead – but they had to keep the lid on,
didn't they?
The Straw Men
And
on the parallel track the McCanns, despite the statement of one of
their lawyers on BBC television in 2007 that the aim was to "expunge"
from the public memory the wild claims against them made in the press:
In March 2009 recirculated all the invented tabloid claims against them to the public House of Commons media committee.
In 2012 recirculated all the same claims in even greater detail to the public and on-line audience for the Leveson inquiry. Highlight the one. Keep the lid on the other.
The lid's off. They are toast.
The poor boobies in the McCann camp think this is some temporary blip that they'll weather if they keep their heads down. They can't get to grips with what's going on. So let's spell out why the libel trial suspension is no ordinary news item.

Why did Blacksmith mention the Leicester Police? I have followed this McCann's case since it happened, but in 2008 I heard something that stunned me into silence. It didn't stop me from reading about them on different sites, but nothing got close to what I heard, until I read Blacksmith's site, earlier today. This tells me that Blacksmith KNOWS what happened. This is the part that convinced me:
Quite what the impact will be on the media when the inevitable happens and the parents are unmasked – courtesy of Amaral and Leicester police

Maybe the LP whilst doing the rogatory interviews twigged to something or other.
Wasn't it them who said something like there was nothing in the files which exonerrated them? (the Mccanns)
The LP fought the court which onbehalf of the Mccanns attempted to get all the UK police files handed over to them, I think they were still prime suspects at the time!
What was the thing you heard in 2008? Appreciate it if you would rather not say.
That BS post is a corker!

Very interesting sallypelt, reminds me of a statement
from someone in PDL in 07, who said something on the
lines that 'when the public find out what really happened
their jaws will hit the floor' or words to that effect.
Does anyone else remember such a statement?

Yes l do, that was Val on the sky forum l believe not long after Maddie disappeared. she said she was in PDL at the time and gave a statement to police. It was Val who claimed the Mcs were at Chaplins the night before Maddie disappeared and they were fetched back because of complaints about the mccann children's crying (I'm sure it was children and not just Maddie)
