As we all know, the last thing the Mcs want is any mention of Madeleine being dead, slush fund would dry up.  They will do anything to not go there. "We got no letter, Madeleine isn't dead". I genuinely can't understand why anyone is taking all this nonsense seriously - after thirteen years of striving to uncover the truth, why is this distraction being allowed to take hold?

From the information I've been given, the German prisoner is a very nasty individual and I'd go so far as to say seriously mentally disturbed.  

If this person of interest is to be a patsy to finally close the case of Madeleine McCann's disappearance, then so be it - time will tell.  Personally I think it very unlikely.  The German police can of course investigate the prisoner but they are not in a position to directly investigate, or probe, the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

For that to proceed, international co-operation is required.  So far the British police are not in accord with the German police and the Portuguese, who have every right to be indignant, are kicking their heels. 

So where exactly is this leading?

The McCanns have relied upon this genre of media intrusion ever since the night of 3rd May 2007 and they continue to this day.  Their strategy worked then and it's working now.

I'll wager this latest suspect, another in the line, has no connection whatsoever with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.  What the mighty team McCann machine are doing now is to grab various bits and pieces highlighted over the years, in particular the early days, and mix it all together to create a mysterious distraction.

Police in Germany and Portugal have clashed over sharing DNA evidence that could lead to a breakthrough in the Madeleine McCann case, according to reports.

However, the Portuguese police are reportedly unwilling to budge, with a source close to the Policia Judiciaria labelling re-testing "a total waste of time".

The evidence was found on the youngster’s bed inside apartment 5A at the Ocean Club by forensic teams after she went missing in 2007.

Scientists in the Portuguese city of Coimbra were unable to extract a full DNA profile from the sample and its origins remain a mystery.

Now German authorities want to carry out their own test on the “potentially vital evidence” in the hope a profile can be found.

If successful, forensic experts would then try to match it with the DNA of German suspect Christian Brueckner, 43.

Portuguese media reports the Germans have asked for all evidence to be given to them.

Prosecutors in Lisbon previously turned down a Scotland Yard request to re-test samples in 2012 and could refuse the German authorities too.

More than 600 samples including hair and saliva were taken from the McCann's ground floor apartment in Praia da Luz in 2007.

They all remain under lock and key in the Coimbra lab but it is not known if Bruckner’s DNA has been cross-checked with all the evidence.


One saliva sample found on Madeleine’s bedspread was ruled out because it belonged to a boy who previously stayed in the apartment.

Sources say it is a second saliva sample, reportedly found on the youngster’s pillow, that German authorities want to test.

They hope scientific advances in the 13 years since it was collected in Portugal could result in a full DNA profile being obtained.

Former Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley said: “DNA science has galloped on a long way since 13 years ago when Madeleine first went missing.

“There are far more complex tests that can be applied now couldn’t have been done back in the day.”

But the German request to carry out fresh DNA tests has sparked a row with Portuguese authorities.

The Policia Judiciaria source said: “This is a total waste of time.

“What’s even worse, is that they now want to do it in their labs, as if ours aren’t good enough.

“Why do they think their DNA testing centre is any better than ours? This is typically arrogant of them.”

Mr Bleksley said the dispute “is descending into a very undignified bun fight”.

“They should have one sole and paramount objective and that is to get to the truth,” he added.

“There shouldn’t be any kind of credit seeking or any kind of muscle flexing whatsoever.

“These law enforcement establishments from different countries now seem to be picking fights with each other.”

Last week a former head of Portugal’s National Forensic Medicine Institute said the samples could still prove vital.

Duarte Nuno Vieira told Portuguese media: “They are still being kept in optimum conditions.


“Despite the fact 13 years have gone by, it’s still possible today to repeat tests.

“Things don’t happen as fast as they do on TV series like CSI and can take days, weeks or even months to complete.

“But in terms of quality, Portugal has some of the highest quality forensic work of any country.

“In the Maddie case the forensic work done was quick and competent.

“The fact 13 years has gone by doesn’t mean the hundreds of samples collected can’t be revisited again.

“There was hair, blood and saliva samples among the enormous amount of material that was collected and analysed.

“The results of everything that was tested in 2007 are available.

“If there was a new DNA profile with someone whose DNA had to be compared with one or more of those samples, that could be done.

“The identification of people responsible for crimes can sometimes take decades. DNA can be preserved for decades.”

Portuguese state prosecutors confirmed last week they had received four requests for international judicial cooperation relating to case.

The date of the requests, and the country that made them, have not been made public.

Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha on Wednesday described the current situation as “an impasse”.

It said searches of areas linked to Brueckner in the Algarve will only take place if German authorities indicate specific locations.

German prosecutors suspect Brueckner killed Madeleine soon after abducting her from the flat on the night of May 3, 2007. He has denied the allegations.


The 43-year-old is currently serving a 15-month prison sentence in Germany for drug dealing.

"What if Christian Brueckener disposed of Madeleine's body?"

Why are people falling for this?

Not everybody is falling for these ideas; there is a core of people here who have, over the years, dismantled every daft theory from the red tops and 'sources'.

There is only one hypothesis 'taking hold' which is that CB is somehow connected to this mystery. Not as an abductor or murderer but in some other way.

If you have knowledge that definitively rules out this possibility, why can't you just tell us what it is?

But it would seem the Police still want one of these daft theories to fit so as to close the case. 

Even ex-Assistant Police Commissioner Mark Rowley, who bagged himself a Knighthood for services rendered to this particular cover-up, came up with a daft theory of a burglary gone wrong - isn't that what this campervanman theory is about?

If the Police can blatantly show the whole world they are covering up Maddie's death, it makes me wonder what else they cover up behind the scenes using hard working taxpayer's money.

Whatever it is they're covering up, the truth must be far worse...or they wouldn't be doing it.

What? I refer to the people on this thread offering various possible explanations for the police focus on CB. You can't say that's speculative. It's what's happening before our eyes.

You dismiss them all, which is your prerogative, but the way you do it is presumptive and frankly, insulting. If you really want justice for MM, shouldn't you open your mind to new possibilities? After all, your seemingly cast iron theories haven't yet explained how the body was disposed of or where.

Cant disagree with the media distractions Verdi. People are just trying to see through it all and work out what's going on.

I don't believe the McCs are all powerful. In fact I think they may well be very worried given their latest statement about the German police letter and the Germans' latest response. It's the first time the McCs have been at odds with a police force since the early days in Portugal. I like it.

Let's see what happens next....

It's messing with CMOMM mechanics, partly the objective I strongly suggest. There was also a lump of hair in the back of the car if I remember correctly but they didn't have the skin part on them as you get when they're ripped out of a scalp but GA said that with the advancement of DNA they may be crucial evidence in the future.

What I don't understand is why the German authorities would write to the McCanns anyway.  Surely it would be up to SY or even the PJ as the crime was committed in Portugal.  What has it got to do with the German Police?

It all seems a load of baloney to keep the fires burning for the likes of DM, forgetting about the demise of Madeleine.  She seems a distant memory to most of them and is now just a cash cow to too many people.

There are people who can put a stop to it, but of course if they do, all hell will break loose.  As Tungendhat QC said, "what if it is established that Madeleine McCann was not abducted". 

Who is trying to keep the truth of the demise of a 3 year old girl under wraps, I doubt it's the PJ so who does that leave?

When I first heard about Madeleine's disappearance on May 4th 2007, I suspected the parents. Their story was not credible. 13 years later and nothing has changed my suspicion that there was paedophilia within that group and that Madeleine died by accident and her body couldn't be presented for autopsy

There have been many many "patsy's" in those 13 years and I suspect this German guy is another one of them. The difference here is that German police are involved - how is that? Is it not a Portuguese case? How do they have the authority to mail the Mcs?

I don't understand the German involvement either - they seem to have taken over completely. Every time you think things can't get worse in this awful case, they do. Poor Madeleine.

The latest ripping yarn .... the German bloke, Herr Volter, didn't actually write two letters to the McCanns,  they were written by German cops and sent to the McCanns via Scotland Yard.

It was the northern bungling saucy chip munching British cops that failed to pass the letters on.

Meanwhile, southbound, the Portuguese sardine munching cops are refusing to release a bit of cloth for further forensic examination.  The bit of cloth was cut from the bed cover under the window in the bedroom occupied by the McCann children - not Madeleine's bed please note!  The Portuguese forensic laboratory first recorded a very faint detection of semen, after a later repeat analysis it was recorded as saliva.  The cloth was later sent to the British FSS for re-examination.  The Portuguese were asked to match the FSS forensic DNA analysis results with previous occupants of apartment 5a.  The saliva sample was reported to have been from the son, a two year old, of a previous occupant.

Such samples are routinely destroyed by forensic laboratories unless specifically asked to retain for evidence before a court of law.  I'm not aware of such a request being made - it seems unlikely at that stage of the investigation as there was no prosecution on the horizon.

More so a police force that isn't even involved with the investigation into the disappearance of the said child.
