Missing People
Where are the friends and relatives of the Mccanns? I would have expected at least some appeals from Grandma Healy, who had plenty to say in the early days after Madeleine's 'disappearance' , as did Gerry's big sis Phil.

Re: Missing People
The point I'm trying to make is that if you look up these missing people there is no mention of them in the media and the only thing Missing People offers is a scant outline, an opportunity to download a photo and sod all else.
How does that help? Well it helps to go all googly eyed and create crowd sympathy - see the Missing People front page - it's all pink hearts, stars and doves.
I really want to scream.

Do they ever recruit anyone who's good at searching for people? Or is it all sales and admin.
Still, plenty of people feel better giving their hard earned money to charities they know nothing about.

Re: Missing People
Yeah but don't forget, poor little Madeleine is more a marketing tool than a missing person. In 2007 Missing people were in financial difficulty, they were in need of a boost, a "new beginning".
Remember Gerry's comment "Kate needs a title, she hasn't got one yet" what was that all about? Then we have their association with Ernie Allen in early May 2007, and John McCann at Marble Arch for an early Missing Peoples event.
IMO, this association with Missing people was known very, very early on.

Did Gerry have a title in 2007?

I don't think that Gerry had a title but he did make that comment about Kate.
I am beginning to wonder why she gave up her job so quickly. I used to think that it was because her employers could not confirm that she and Cuddle Cat tended to 6 corpses before the holiday, now I'm not so sure. Did this charity have big plans already in place for her?

Re: Missing People
I suspect this was the plan but it has been thwarted by that stubborn Portuguese cop and those pesky trolls who rained on Kate's parade and would not allow the pall of suspicion that hung about her to dissipate. I remember reading ( I think on the 3As) some time ago a comment that Kate hadn't "been approached yet" but she was obviously hopeful of a high-profile role. I believe it's claimed she's back in some branch of medicine now - boohoo, those bloody interfering trolls!!!!Get'emGonçalo wrote:I remember Kate saying "This is my job now. Re: Missing People
Around August 2007 just before the UK police helped the Portuguese to build a case against the McCanns and make them formal suspects, the McCanns were planning to settle out there. At the same time, obviously they couldn't even meet their mortgage payments, how on earth did the think that they would cope financially? There must have been something in place at that time for them to even consider doing that. Did they think that they had hit the jackpot and could now afford to make that move?

Having read the entire Missing People website across the years, I will issue a challenge to find current missing people released to the UK press by UK police anywhere to be found on their website.
I don't mind being wrong.

Re: Missing People
Aquila, is this what you mean?
From ‘Home Page’ at the top ‘Help us find someone’ gives options. Click ‘missing’ and it brings up the full gallery.
Having a look though, I noticed the reference numbers for the most recent top six on the ‘Home Page’.
Only 5416 so far this year?
Can’t be right shurely? (with apologies to Private Eye)
They are going to have to crack on to get a few more listed by the year end. (Last year they managed 7072 that I could see.) So much for the ‘sustained growth’ in their accounts or are they going to tell us that they are succeeding in their objectives, hence the reduced number of cases?
In their blurb they tell us that:
· Someone is reported missing every 90 seconds in the UK
· 180,000 people are reported missing every year
· There are 340,000 reported missing incidents every year
· Children are more likely to be reported missing than adults: 1 in 200 children goes missing each year; 1 in every 500 adults goes missing every year
How many people go missing each year?
· Missing people: of the 180,000 people reported missing over 95,000 are adults and over 80,000 are children
· Missing incidents: of the 340,000 reported incidents over 125,000 incidents are adults and over 210,000 incidents are children
· Looked after children are at high risk of being reported missing. 1 in 10 looked after children are reported missing each year compared to 1 in 200 total children. Looked after children who are reported missing will be reported on average 6 times
The number of missing incidents is higher than the number of individuals who go missing because some people go missing more than once. Most of the people who are reported missing are vulnerable or at risk and many are reported missing multiple times, making them even more vulnerable.
Under-reporting
Research shows that police data is likely to be a significant underestimate. There are limitations to the NCA data, including differing recording practices and incomplete data, and some people will not be reported missing to the police at all. Research suggests that as many as 7 in 10 children are not reported to the police when they go missing. Little is known about adults who are not reported missing.
What is 'missing'?
The National Police Chiefs' Council's definition for missing: 'Anyone whose whereabouts cannot be established and where the circumstances are out of character or the context suggests the person may be subject of crime or at risk of harm to themselves or another'.
However, it is difficult to provide a singular definition for missing. This largely stems from the huge variety of potential reasons behind a person going missing, and the different ways an incident may be understood by different parties. Adults, unless they are within the criminal justice system or detained under various sections of the Mental Health Act, have a legal right to go missing. For more information regarding this question please see our information sheet.
so why are they not getting anywhere near this number of referrals?

sar wrote:..what does This doctor is subject to revalidation mean?
It means before she can renew her license to practice she has to be examined and reviewed by another more experienced doctor to show she is current with all applicable requirements for her job, is current with new medicines and treatments and she would also likely be observed treating patients etc.
She cannot return to her job as a GP until she has been revalidated.
Since she had not been practicing for 10 years plus, she would not be revalidated.
She would not be current with practices nor treatments.
Her career as a GP is long over, if she wanted to return she would likely have to go back to medical school and start from scratch.
Considering she spent so much time studying to become a doctor, a job she would have continued till she retired, she has lost it all.
Her working in medicine could be anything. We know she is not in contact with the public as it would have been common knowledge within days by those she saw.
This means she is working behind the scenes with no contact with the public.
Likely this would be as a secretary perhaps to the fragrant gerry?
Kate's medical career is over.
Gerry's is over as he is now a university professor and extremely disliked by his students according to the very nice girl i got chatting to, one of his student.
Will the university keep him on i wonder?
Time will tell.

Madeleine McCann’s mum is urging the public to join in a “Big Tweet” to help find other missing youngsters.
Kate McCann, 51, is an ambassador for Missing People – the charity behind the annual tweetathon. Each year it dedicates a day to tweeting appeals to help find children who are missing across the globe.
It coincides with International Missing Children’s Day, which this year is Saturday.

Madeleine McCann’s mum is urging the public to join in a “Big Tweet” to help find other missing youngsters.
