MOTHERS WHO WORK ARE DESENSITIZED TO THEIR CHILDREN- don't shoot messenger

I know women want to be doctors and lawyers but I read somewhere that if they try to continue after they have children,there's the exhaustion issue with responsibility to others winning a lot of the time, and there appears to be some desensitization. That would explain why they didn't answer cries and weren't alarmed about them.

I don't think you can generalise. In this instance I just think they were used to the single life and a good social life and didn't want to give that up.

Kate wasn't working as a GP at the time of the holiday though. I think I'm right in saying that she hadn't done so since before she had the twins.

Not only do a lot of women want careers and children but they also want to go to the gym or some other form of keep fit which in itself is very tiring, put that on top of long hours and (maybe) money worries and unfortunately we read articles such as children phoning help lines as parents (not just mothers) don't have time to read to them etc. any longer.

Many women are also having children not long before they reach the menopause so all in all they are whacked out.

Let's not forget "wine o'clock" and the reports about parents taking drugs - is it any wonder so many children seem to have so many "issues" these days?

where did you read this, and was this a scientific study? I was a stay at home mum when my two children were young, And I felt "desensitized" sometimes... :) If I compared myself to working women friends they were often more focussed on their children than I was, because they spent so little time with them. Every little thing about them was precious and special. Just my observation and opinion. Also Kate worked part time iirc.
