I wonder if this is likely to be twisted to imply that he is typical of those that seek to discover the fate of Madeleine?

And who was hoping to locate via the other stuff - his next door neighbour's missing Yorkshire terrier?

Given the graphic description of the injuries some paedophiles inflict on their victims on p.129 of Exhibit KH1, my only surprise is that this pervert's ploy plea hasn't been used in mitigation before.

On reading that account, who wouldn't want to hunt down scumbags who defile children in the most brutal manner?

I would imagine that it's 'helped' to alert Brinkman's neighbours as to what manner of man they have living among them, Constablekid.

As it's commonplace for the addresses of those convicted by the courts to be published in newspaper reports, I don't see any reason why this felon should be treated any differently, do you?

My point was/is that I'm surprised that, as far as I'm aware, until yesterday 'searching for pornographic images of Madeleine McCann' has not been cited as a mitigating factor in any case similar to that of Brinkman and I'd be interested to learn whether there has previously been any such plea put forward by a defendant's barrister/solicitor .

I believe the excuse "research" is standard in child pornography cases.

It goes without saying that  'research' is a much overused excuse put forward by offenders such as Chris Langham, Pete Townshend and countless others.

However, this does not address the point I was endeavouring to make in my post of 11.55pm on page 1 of this thread, namely:

"Given the graphic description of the injuries some paedophiles inflict on their victims on p.129 of Exhibit KH1, my only surprise is that this pervert's ploy plea hasn't been used in mitigation before.

On reading that account, who wouldn't want to hunt down scumbags who defile children in the most brutal manner?"

and, in retrospect, perhaps I should have made it clearer that I am specifically interested in learning whether 'searching for pornographic images of Madeleine McCann' in order, presumably, to locate her whereabouts/establish whether she is alive has been used in mitigation in any earlier cases?

In other words, how many similar 'researchers' who've come before the courts have claimed they've been motivated to explore the murkier regions of the net after reading Kate's account of what may have befallen her daughter?

The last available figures show there were some 1,780+ convictions and cautions handed down for offences involving indecent images of children and as not all of these, or previous years' cases, have been reported in the press, I'm not entirely convinced we would necessarily have 'heard about it', np.

Ever since the McCanns claimed that their eldest daughter may have fallen victim to a paedophiles, I have been waiting for an offender to claim that their personal perversion 'research' was motivated by a desire to find the child.

As it appears that only this lone OAP has done so over the course of the past almost 8 years, it would suggest that other similar offenders are either indifferent to/unknowledgeable about the McCann case or are as aware as most that it's highly improbable Madeleine was taken by 'one of them'.

I think all cases involving cases like Brinkman,s would be reported in local newspapers where the offender lives if there was any mention of Madeleine McCann in any aspect of the offences concerned the local papers would make sure it would go mainsteam,so no Idon,t think this exscuse has been used before I don,t recollect it  being used before but i could be wrong

On a 'lighter' note?

At least he was 'searching' for Madeleine! (so he says)

UNLIKE her own PARENTS, her 'families', her parents 'friends' and zlebs, who 'attached' themselves to the 'case' for self 'gratification' and 'kudos'!

Branson, Rowling, Greene, Kennedy, 'billionaires and millionaires' ALL, collectively, say, £20million 'each', COULD have 'ENGAGED' the very best FBI, CIA, Mossad, MI5/6 'ex-agents/employees' to 'search' for Madeleine.

But 'they' DIDN'T, did they?

I wonder WHY 'NOT'?

thinking

Just to add:

The Zlebs did NOT 'donate' to the privately registered Madeleine's 'fund' but did 'pledge' to the 'reward', something 'ordinary' people were told not to 'donate' to (J McCann)

The 'ordinary' peoples 'donations' (including handicapped kids 'donations') were to be 'donated' to a private 'company' set up by the McCanns and other family members.

For THEIR 'BENEFIT'!  (Mortgage repayments, a spokesman's 'retainer' fee,(£28,000pa)  5* hotel 'stays', libel claim court cases, etc)

The Zlebs have 'pledges' which have NOT cost THEM, a single PENNY!

Did they, the Zlebs, know, KNOW, that they wouldn't EVER have to 'honour' their 'pledges'?

thinking

You're so right UT. While the research argument has been so worn down, poor Madeleine is again used to better once chances. For the first time in this setting as far as I know.
Not much different from what the parents did/do.

Has anyone died or been injured in the search for a living Maddie? Couldn't their relatives find grounds to sue a certain female author for insisting that an abduction took place and demanding that people search for her missing child, when indeed no proof of such exists?

David Brinkman, 68, from Scotland, says the Madeleine McCann case made him look at child sexual abuse images - court case Empty Getting Away With The Crime Of Watching Child Sexual Abuse Images - foolproof method

Post by Tony Bennett 12.03.15 13:04

ultimaThule wrote:It goes without saying that  'research' is a much overused excuse put forward by offenders such as Chris Langham, Pete Townshend and countless others.
The judge says he wants to send Brinkman to prison, but thinks he hasn't been sufficiently psychologically assessed. Maybe he has 'Asperger's Syndrome', whatever that really is:

https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/aberdeen/517856/pensioner-caught-child-porn-searching-madeleine-mccann-sent-psychiatric-testing/

So he'll probably get away with a suspended sentence, or community service, or whatever.

You might call it 'Brinkmanship'.

In future, the excuse: "I have Asperger's Syndrome and I was looking for Madeleine McCann" could be a watertight guarantee that you can watch as much as you want of adults cruelly abusing children - yet get away with it

I wonder if there is any mention in his GP records of any such syndrome?   At his age, one would have thought that there would be mention in existing records of symptoms of such a syndrome and of the possibility of dementia?

@ plebgate

On this forum, we cannot access GP records; however, a search of the internet reveals some very interesting facts about David Brinkman's history and his connections.

To summarise a long but disturbing set of connections:

1. Here is Brinkman, snapped at a recent court hearing

David Brinkman, 68, from Scotland, says the Madeleine McCann case made him look at child sexual abuse images - court case Z_brin13

2. Here he is, many years ago, promoting one of his CDs:

David Brinkman, 68, from Scotland, says the Madeleine McCann case made him look at child sexual abuse images - court case Z_brin14

3. It would appear that Brinkman's career as a self-styled 'poet' and 'songwriter' began just weeks after paedophile Thomas Hamilton massacred 15 pupils and a teacher at Dunblane in 1996. He published a set of 13 songs for children which he said he wanted to distribute to 'every primary school in the English-speaking world

4. However, although he describes his CDs as 'mellow and family-friendly', they include songs about murder and drug-taking

5. His music company webiste, Silver Mile productions, links to the activities of the controversial figure of Steve Cardownie, a prominent Scottish national Party Councillor. Cardownie was the former Deputy Lord Provost on Edinburgh City Council and until Wednesday this week (see below), he was the Chairman of the all-powerful Edinburgh Council Entertainments Committee, responsible inter alia for the internationally famous Edimburgh Festival

6. Cardownie received many rebukes from fellow Councillors and the media for his many Council-funded trips to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine - with which Edinburgh was twinned under the town-twinning programme. He was notorious for bringing back a series of Ukrainian young women whom he married; by the time he was 51, he had been married 5 times, 4 times to young Ukrainian women

7. Cardownie's long-term business partner was one David Coutts, who in 2004 wrote a letter to the Aberdeen Press & Journal defending their joint business activities. They ran the controversial 'da-da-da!' club which was attracting a great deal of criticism for flouting local planning and licensing laws

8. By an amazing co-incidence, David Coutts was the first on the scene of the killing of firebrand Scottish Nationalist Willie Macrae, one of Scotland's longest-running mysteries. Macrae had been driving up to his weekend cottage in his Volvo, but his car was found off the road and Macrae had a bullet in his head. All the authorities loudly but unconvincingly tried to reassure the public that this was a simple case of suicide

9. A recent article in the Express suggested - with evidence - that Willie Macrae was killed by Special Branch because he had been about to expose a U.K.-wide paedophile ring. It was within weeks of M.P. Geoffrey Dickens also submitting his dossier of a high-level paedophile ring to the Home Secretary.

I will try to put up more detail- and links to all this - later today.

Was it just co-incidence, though, that on the very day child sex prevert David Brinkman was to appear in court to be sentenced, Councillor Steve Cardownie resigned from his prestigious position to 'spend more time with his family':

The leader of the SNP group in Edinburgh has stood down and a replacement has been appointed.Steve Cardownie, SNP councillor for the Forth ward, reportedly took the step to spend more time with his family.

He will continue as a councillor and will be replaced by Sandy Howat, who represents Meadows and Morningside, as group leader.

On Thursday it will be decided if Mr Howat also becomes Edinburgh city council's deputy leader.

'Tireless servant'

An SNP spokesman said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank Steve Cardownie who has been an excellent leader of the SNP group on Edinburgh council.

"We wish him well for the future and know he will continue to be a tireless servant for the constituents he represents."

Andrew Burns, Edinburgh City Council's leader, said: "I've really enjoyed working with Steve and will be sorry to see him return to the SNP backbenches.

"Politics is though a pretty rough trade, and internal change does sometimes happen.

"Most crucially, despite any changes at an individual level, the local Labour/SNP coalition will continue as we collectively understand the importance of continuity and stability for Scotland's capital city.

"I do now look forward to working with Sandy, who I've known well since 1996/7."

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Amelie McCann (aged 2): "Maddie's jammies!".
