Police on the Algarve quizzing British man after body of his missing wife is found

POLICE on the Algarve were today quizzing a British man after his missing wife’s body was found buried under a concrete slab in their garden.

Police on the Algarve were today quizzing a British man
The expat was arrested late last night after the grim discovery.
The dead woman, a Brit in her sixties named only as Brenda, went missing in November from her country home in the village of Alcalar near Portimao.
Her son alerted police after failed attempts to contact her.
Detectives formally arrested her partner after they discovered her body just after 8.15pm last night.
The unnamed man, aged around 50, is said to have shown police the burial spot after being taken to the house from a local police station.
He has reportedly admitted to burying his wife but is claiming he did so after she committed suicide.
A post mortem was due to take place today to try to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is being led by Policia Judiciaria officers based in Portimao, the same squad which has been assisting Scotland Yard officers probing the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
The British couple are thought to have been living in the area for around 10 years.

I've said it before and will say it again, the McCann will rue the day they singled out the Express for criticism. I know some think the paper sometimes do the couple's bidding but I think they (Express) are very cunning.

British man arrested after wife’s body found buried in Algarve garden

An autopsy was ongoing as we went to press on Wednesday to determine the cause of death of a 70-year-old British expat so far named only as Brenda whose body was found buried under a concrete slab in her own garden in Alcalar. PJ police investigating have detained Brenda’s 50-year-old British partner. The couple have lived in the Algarve for the last 10 years. Brenda’s body was discovered on Tuesday night.
Reporting on the grim discovery on Wednesday morning, British and Portuguese papers described how the dead woman’s body had been buried under a large slab of concrete in the garden of her Monte Canelas home.
Operatives using pneumatic drills and wielding pick axes broke through the concrete around 8.15 last night.
According to reports, Brenda (no surname has yet been released) went missing two months ago. Her partner is understood to have alerted the authorities and even “dedicated himself to trying to find her” - but the Daily Express reported on Wednesday that his story now is that his wife committed suicide and that he simply buried her body.

Our own inquiries have revealed that Brenda’s surname was Davidson, and that her partner Nigel Jackson - described by neighbours as 60 years old, not 50 - told people inquiring as to her disappearance in November that she had “gone to UK for treatment for a nasty cough”.
Certainly, the suicide story has yet to be unravelled.

Portuguese papers claim that Jackson’s arrest last night followed the intervention of Brenda’s son.
As investigations continue, neighbours have described the dead woman as “very caring and loving”.
According to Correio da Manhã “some have said” that they thought Brenda’s disappearance “could have been voluntary, or even accidental, but they never suspected murder”.
It is believed Nigel Jackson is suspected of her murder and of concealing the body.
He is due to be interrogated today by a magistrate.

So two stories, - Gone to England for a bottle of cough mixture, or went missing and have been trying to find her.

Actualy there are three stories, all from the same source,
UK for cough Medicine, -  gone mssing and reported and spending my entire life 'searching'  -  or Suicide, so I just buried her under the drive and covered her in concrete . . . It seemed the right thing to do, really , yer know, umm, err, like.
And have a look at her bank account, credit cards, purse, wallet, . . .
