Daniel's mother, a child of 23 months who disappeared in Calheta, Madeira, and it appeared after three days in conditions that were unclear, confessed to the Judicial Police who staged the kidnapping.
The Morning Post knows that the woman confessed, this afternoon, staging the kidnapping of baby Daniel.
They are not yet clarified the contours of the crime, but the goal would be to sell the mother the child.
, Daniel's mother, was on Friday the Judicial Police and accused her husband of having tried to sell the baby.
The woman said she realized the scheme but was afraid to make a complaint. The former couple was on Friday in PJ, following a complaint of domestic violence.
Lydia accused Carlos, her husband of having assaulted earlier in the week.
Note that Lydia and Carlos are separated not long ago, and that he lives with another partner and two babies.
As was heard by the Judiciary Police, said Lydia's paternal grandfather Daniel could also be involved in the abduction of the baby.
But this Saturday, she confessed to being the author of staging oe disappearance that not the baby's father knew of the plan.
The journalist Tanya Laranjo, who followed this case closely, says that it is already known that Daniel was not abducted at the doorstep, but that was his mother who took him down the street and gave it to someone.

She prepared everything in detail so no one would find out. However, five months after the disappearance of the toddler Daniel in Calheta (Madeira), Lídia Freitas (24), confessed that she wanted to sell the child. She was arrested.
With the help of another person who didn't know about her plans, Daniel's mother kept the child out of sight. The intention was to sell the toddler, at the time with 18 months old, without the knowledge of the child's father and of her family. She very likely gave up the idea of selling the child because of the media attention that was given to the case. Lídia is, for now, indicted with human trafficking and aggravated kidnapping. She was formally arrested yesterday afternoon by the Judiciary Police, after long hours of interrogation, and has spent the night in a jail in the city of Funchal [Madeira island]. Tomorrow she will be taken before a judge. The details are not yet fully explained.

It is now known that on the day the Daniel disappeared, the mother took the child to another person, who was waiting down the street near the house of Daniel's godfather, where the family was having a get-together. For now, the PJ has not arrested anyone else and will continue to investigate.
It was thanks to a recent complaint of domestic violence made by Lídia against the now former husband, Carlos Abreu de Sousa (26), Daniel's father, that the PJ saw a possibility to solve the crime. The couple, who split last Tuesday as well as the woman's new boyfriend, were called to the PJ. Lídia had already left their house and taken the children, Daniel and Mariana, with her.
She tried to set up her husband

The strategy resulted in full, resulting in the confession of Lídia, who still tried to incriminate her husband, that was oblivious to the whole situation. JN knows that Carlos said he had began to suspect the involvement of his wife in the weeks following the day Daniel was found.
After several hours of interviews, only as witnesses and without the presence of lawyers, they were all released and each returned to their own house. However the PJ was not convinced by the mother's story and picked her up again yesterday, for further questioning. She ended up confessing and stated that her intention was to sell Daniel, but she did not give further details.

Re: Daniel: YET ANOTHER STAGED ABDUCTION
Well, the McCanns did rather set the stage for making money out of your child 'being abducted' didn't they?
Real abductions I think are what used to be called kidnapping. The motive was money. Desperate parents would be prepared to pay large amounts of money to ensure the safe return of their child. The kidnapper would demand a ransom in return for the safe return of what the kidnapper presumed would be the parents' most valued 'possession'.
How many kidnappings were done by complete strangers who were solely motivated by money (as opposed to having an axe to grind/a personal vendetta etc)? Mafia-style kidnappings I would imagine were often also motivated by vendettas, feuds and revenge.
What is fascinating about this case is that it turns the traditional 'kidnap' completely on its head. Rather than the family ending up bankrupting themselves to get their child back, or at least to obtain justice for their child, the family have profited from their child going missing.
If you look back at many cases where children or young adults have mysteriously disappeared, you often will see that the parents will go to extreme lengths to try to find out what happened. They will give up their jobs, use up all their money, to seek the truth. The girl who disappeared in Kenya. The girl who disappeared in Japan. Parents were painstaking in their efforts. Probably having to fight all sorts of corruption and cover-up. But those two cases were not kidnappings, as far as I am aware.
What about a 'kidnapping' where the parents didn't especially want their child back? That would mean that the kidnapper had stolen something that was not of any value.
