Sunday Express 9 Feb 2014 - MADELEINE - There REALLY WAS a COVER-UP
Cover of the Express (can't reproduce it, sorry) tomorrow says there really was a cover-up - the Ocean Club staff allegedly covered up the fact that a set of keys to all the apartment had been stolen:

Keys to the holiday apartment from which Madeleine McCann was abducted were lost shortly before she vanished, it was claimed last night.
However, the police were not told about the loss of potentially crucial evidence which could unlock the seven-year-mystery.
A Sunday Express investigation in Portugal has revealed astonishing new information which, if proved, suggests the kidnap was well planned and executed using stolen keys. Don't spoil a rattling good story with pedantic details like that

Yep door unlocked, keys to all apartments in the hands of shady people but only one child taken, no children before and none since. Very strange, very, very strange. Oh and let's not forget that the people who may have had keys to the apartment waited for a very small window of opportunity to strike. EH?

So it's a "A Sunday Express investigation in Portugal" - be interesting to see the details of that.
Also be interesting to see if it is claimed the Ocean management were aware.

He doesn't have to.
As PeterMac has ably pointed out previously, neither the McCanns nor any of their spokespeople, public relations advisers or lawyers have ever given a definitive account of how the mysterious abductor entered or left. All options have been left open.
Could he have come in this way, or that way?
Was it a professional abductor - or a burglar?
Did he sedate the children while he was there - or not?
Did he have accomplices?
Did he try to abduct a child the night before and disturb the children?
Was he in the apartment, hiding in the wardrobe or behind a door while Gerry McCann checked on the children?
Was it Tannerman, Smithman, Crecheman, Raymond Hewlett, a tipsy gypsy or Tractorman?
And so on...
...and on...
...and on...

Re: Sunday Express 9 Feb 2014 - MADELEINE - There REALLY WAS a COVER-UP
There is a contradiction even in the first three sentences of the Sunday Express report:
Keys to the holiday apartment from which Madeleine McCann was abducted were lost...
A Sunday Express investigation in Portugal has revealed astonishing new information which, if proved, suggests the kidnap was well planned and executed using stolen keys...
There is another contradiction:
astonishing new information which, if proved...
If it's 'information', then it doen't need to be 'proved'.
No doubt the 'Express investigation' knows:
* what keys were lost/stolen
* where they were, or who had them when they were lost
* who first noticed when they were lost or stolen
* whether or not the loss/theft was stolen, and
* whether, by whom and when a new set of keys were ordered.
I can't wait to read the rest of the story

Re: Sunday Express 9 Feb 2014 - MADELEINE - There REALLY WAS a COVER-UP
This front page absolutely sickens me and illustrates just how low the papers will stoop to sell copies! I think they have sensationalised this as a direct result of increasing suspicion of a real cover up among the public and making it into a front page story for no other reason but to catch the attention of this audience! Keys going missing is irrelevant to this case as we all know! Grrrrrr!

I imagine Mark Warner will see this as rather damaging to their future prospects with the Ocean Club and will take steps to ensure the real story is made known.

Fully agree.
It is utterly, totally cynical.
I am not sure if this is now a 'new low'.
But it must come pretty close...

The McCanns have already destroyed the reputation of MW, have lost numerous MW staff their jobs, have given a bad name to the once free and easy child-friendly resort of PDL, no doubt have ruined the livelihood of many shops/restaurants/businesses in the resort, what more do the papers want in order to sell their trashy papers?????

It still doesn't explain the cadaverine and body fluids in the apartment, on the pants of ganja, the red shirt and cuddle cat as well as the key fob and hire car.
No matter how you try to spin it, the elephant in the room is the body fluids and cadaverine which indicate someone died in the apartment.
Since there is no record of any death in the apartment and a child is missing, the two have to be related.

Just a few bits about how safety conscious the McCanns were leaving doors unlocked.
Witness statement of Gerald Patrick McCann, on the 4th of May 2007, at 11.15 a.m.
Thus, at 9.05 pm, the deponent entered the club, apartment, using his key, the door being locked,
At 10pm, his wife Kate went to check on the children. She went into the apartment through the door using her key
Witness statement of Kate Marie Healy, on the 4th of May 2007, at 2.20 p.m.
At around 10pm, the witness came to check on the children. She went into the apartment by the side door, which was closed, but unlocked, as already said,
Sequence of Events: Thursday 3rd May 2007 - 2030 to 2200
As recalled by:
Gerry McCann - 5A
Kate McCann - 5A
Presented to PJ 10th May 2007.
2105: GM returns to his flat (5A) and enters via the patio gate entrance. This and a child gate at the top of the stairs were closed at the time. He enters the flat via the patio door which is closed but unlocked.
22.00: (approx): KM leaves table to check children in 5A. The patio gate is closed and the child gate is also probably closed. She enters through the closed patio entrance,
Witness statement of Gerald Patrick McCann, on the 10th of May 2007, at 3.20 p.m.
They left the house through the main door, that he was sure he locked, and the back door was also closed and locked.
On Wednesday night, 2 May 2007. On this day, the deponent and KATE had already left the back door closed, but not locked, to allow entrance by their group colleagues to check on the children. He clarifies that the main door was always closed but not necessarily locked with the key.
Back to Thursday, after breakfast, about 09h00, KATE and the children left by the back door, the deponent having left by the front door, which he locked with the key, having also closed and locked the back door from the inside.
After that time they made their way to the resort play area, the deponent having left through the front door and the rest of the family through the back door that, once again, he shut and locked from the inside. As for the front door, he does not know exactly if he locked it.
After 17H30 they went to the apartment, the deponent having entered by the main door, which he did not lock while he was inside the residence. KATE and the children entered by the back door, after this had been opened from the inside by the deponent.
Despite what he said in his previous statements, he states now and with certainty, that he left with KATE through the back door which he consequently closed but did not lock, given that that is only possible from the inside. Concerning the front door, although he is certain that it was closed, it is unlikely that it was locked, because they left through the back door.
leaving yet again through the back door, that he closed but did not lock
Witness statement of Kate Marie Healy, on the 6th of September 2007, at 3 p.m.
They entered the apartment by the main door, with the key. She does not know if it was locked, and presumes it was Gerry who opened it. At lunch time they also entered through the same door.
They left through the balcony door, which they left closed but not locked. Main door was closed but not locked. She thinks it could be opened from the inside but not from the outside.

It's going to be interesting to see what the newspaper reviews on television news will be later today - there's no convenient way to nip past this article - the major headline is about Madeleine and the secondary headline is the death of a boy aged 7 from the toxic flood.

Perhaps they will invite DCI Redwood in to comment on what the UK public's thoughts are on a 'MADELEINE COVER UP' story!

Re: Sunday Express 9 Feb 2014 - MADELEINE - There REALLY WAS a COVER-UP
In an older hotel or holiday apartment complex everyone knows that staff members have a key to the room or access to a master key: Front Desk, Housekeeping, Chambermaids, Maintenance, Security, even former guests. That is standard the world over. And from time to time guests (or staff) will lose those keys. Again - 100% standard.
To report that a 'lost key' is somehow FRONT PAGE NEWS - a possible breakthrough in the case, is beyond ridiculous. It is bordering on the insulting.
However, there is an unintended consequence here. Reading a story about keys and security reminds the public just how monumentally stupid the McCanns were to leave their three toddlers all alone in the apartment. EVERY NIGHT. Readers will rightly assume that to leave them alone with doors locked was bad enough - but to then go out with the doors left open.... well nobody can identify (or sympathise) with that.
So - an astonishingly mindless story but one which actually harms the McCanns by highlighting their indefensible behaviour throughout the holiday.

Re: Sunday Express 9 Feb 2014 - MADELEINE - There REALLY WAS a COVER-UP
The other reading of the recent flurry of stories is that there is a coordinated PR campaign underway to create a new narrative. The old 9pm - 9.40pm story (as detailed by the T9, the official website, and at length in "Madeleine") has now been consigned to history - declared irrelevant by SY. That means that the jemmied shutters, whooshing curtains, moving doors, sedated children, 'someone in the room', 'tannerman' are all gone.
The McCanns now have no story. None. They are right back to zero. No story. No suspects. No motive. (And no alibi either actually). So a new story is needed.
This new story seems to require the apartment to be locked (to minimise the stupidity of leaving the toddlers all alone). And so we have lots of headlines about "burglars" and "employees with access" and now "lost keys". After a while no-one but us will remember that the McCanns claimed the apartment was unlocked.
And in this new post-9:40pm timeline, there is only time for an entirely traceless break-ins. They have to be in and out and gone in a couple of minutes. And the best people to do that? 'Professional' Burglars. Ex-Employees (with or without grudges). People with KEYS!!!
It's a desperately thin story without even a shred of evidence to back it up. Not a single bit. Not even to help the story along! The public so far (to judge by the comments) are not buying it. But as a good propagandist knows, if you repeat a lie often enough, people may come to believe it. This appears to be the strategy - easily implemented in the UK where the lazy media simply print and churn whatever is handed to them.
