Finally somebody is thanking Rebekah! Tony Bennett!
Immediately I thanked her, after the Yard got involved in the case and it was known that she had pressured Cameron.
What a trap, what a trap, dear parents!

Bishop Brennan wrote:I think the risk here is that having spent £6m and having absolutely nothing to show for it (apart from crecheman), SY starts to look like a crowd of useless buffoons endlessly chasing shadows down blind alleys. Pressure then rises on those at the top to produce a rabbit out of the hat. And with no likelihood of finding a genuine abductor, a whitewash becomes the easy way out.
Otherwise SY look incompetent. Cameron and May look foolish at wasting hard earned money on a politically-inspired wild goose chase. And the press will enjoy toasting all of them (today being just a warm-up).
SY now have 3 options:
1. Admit defeat. We cannot find an abductor.
2. Change tack. Investigate the T9.
3. Conjure up a (dead) whitewash abductor and the evidence to back it up. Try him in the media but never at court.
By now they must know that finding an abductor is never going to happen. Chasing down all the random leads from CW is pointless and they know it. They really have to decide how to close this out, as the papers will be keeping count from this point forward.
This is how I see it. It can't go on much longer so, if they haven't been investigating the Tapas 9 thus far it's looking grim and I fear your third option will materialise. Recently, however, I'm starting to hope that this has been a genuine investigation - the frozen fund, Kate's deterioration in appearance, Gerry's absence, the positive news coming from the libel trial and Isabelle's absence, the PJ running a new investigation of their own, the disappearance of the Paynes from CW... it's mostly been positive indicators over the last few months, and I am the biggest of cynics. I just hope Redwood has the evidence he needs soon, because it can't go on much longer.

Well, if they choose option 2 and pull it off, then they will be the talk of the media for years! What a case to turn around and crack... The stuff of every detective's dreams. Will they do it... Can it be done... time will tell.

Re: Maddie: Cops' bill hits 6 million (The Sun)
IMO Option 3 will actually be the most difficult. Even dead paedophiles have friends and family who will say that despite vile and unforgivable crimes, they did not do THIS. SY can come up with as many ludicrous sightings and suspects as they like, but to actually say "This is him" (with no proof, because there isn't any) is a different matter altogether. Tractor man proved that relatives will speak up for people who are no longer able to. Also, this case is different to Princess Diana's and David Kelly's in that it is not just people having a hunch that all is not above board. There are thousands of people all over the world who are aware of the inconsistencies in the McCanns' stories and any "conclusion" will have to explain them away. How can millions of pounds be spent without even ASKING the people there at the time to explain their changing stories? This will not wash!

BIB unfortunately there is already a massive inconsistency in the SY 'revelation' of crecheman who would have been walking in the opposite direction to tannerman and they expected us to buy that explanation without question, frankly I wouldn't put anything past them.squeaker wrote:IMO Option 3 will actually be the most difficult. Well, it is in part information, prompted in part, of course, by a Freedom of Information request. Someone at least must be curious about the steeply rising costs of all this.
The Sun is of course congratulating itself in this article (bit in blue below):
QUOTE
SCOTLAND Yard’s bill for its probe into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance has topped £6million, The Sun can reveal.
In the last three months a major public appeal for information has pushed the cost of Operation Grange up by £1.64million — and the total is now likely to rocket to £10million-plus.
A Freedom of Information request showed the bill for Grange — launched in May 2011 — had reached £6,343,116 by November 30.
It includes £88,199.652 on travel, with officers regularly flying to Praia da Luz, the Portuguese resort where Madeleine, then three, vanished in May 2007.
The probe was set up after her parents Kate and Gerry, both 45, of Rothley, Leics, wrote an open letter in The Sun asking the PM for help.
A two-year review identified 200 potential leads and a new investigation — including a Crimewatch reconstruction — prompted 5,000 calls.
Det Chief Insp Andy Redwood, in charge of Grange, said: “All this has produced a large volume of work.”
I do agree that DCI Andy Redwood's reply (red above) was an absolute gem.
How are you getting on with finding Madeleine and bringing the perpetrators of this appalling crime to justice?
ANSWER: "All this has produced a large volume of work".
This answer could have so many practical applications - indeed it has almost universal appeal as an answer.
As in:
How are you getting on with sorting the economy out?
ANS: "All this has produced a large volume of work".
How are you getting on with the dinner, darling?
ANS: "All this has produced a large volume of work".
When will my car be ready to collect?
ANS: "All this has produced a large volume of work".
How are rehearsals for the concert going?
ANS: "All this has produced a large volume of work".
And so on...

For the statistically minded, the £6,343,116 spent up to 30 November 2013 has been spread over 944 days, assuming that the Scotland Yard review-cum-investigation began on the day after
That averages out at £6,719.40 per day of this enquiry, including Saturdays, Sundays, Bank Holidays, day and night.
To put it another way, taxpayers are paying £279.97 per hour to Redwood and his team.
Or £4.67 every minute of the day and night.
Another year of this, at that rate (not forgetting to include December 2013), will cost another £2,661,000 - and so take us beyond £9 million.
Add to that the cost of:
* the Portuguese investigations
* the Leicestershire Police investigation
* tens or hundreds of thousands of police man-hours spent chasing 'sightings' of Madeleine that were not 'sightings'
* the £5 million or so that the McCanns have spent on lawyers so far
* the £1 million or so that they've spent on various public relations advisers so far
* the cost of Bell Pottinger, Alan Pike, Control Risks etc.
* the cost of British government and consular help, and, last but not least
* around £3 million-plus spent by the McCanns on their private investigators
and it might go into the Guinness Book of Records for the most expensive enquiry ever to have turned up with...
...nothing.

Re: Maddie: Cops' bill hits 6 million (The Sun)
I'm surprised the 'Sun' aren't asking the Metropolitan Police, whoever or whatever made you decide to undertake a case that didn't fall within your jurisdiction in the first instance, after all, you never had the power to even formally question the main suspects, let alone arrest them. Surely you must have known that it wouldn't yield any results and be a waste of taxpayer's money.
Yer afta laff, doncha, its all a tad reminiscent of the pregnant woman taking seriously what was poked at her in fun. That Kelvin McKenzie chappie may have been the most nauseous and despicable monstrosity to roam god's planet prior to Piers Morgan, but he certainly succinctly summed up the 'Sun' readers when describing them as having the brains of an ant and a memory retention of 10 secs.

I think that is really good value for money considering it costs more for the police to guard Julian Assange outside the embassy.
This is just how much things cost. A telephone call from a payphone used to be 10p, its now 60p. Inflation and all that.
The cost of maintaining a round-the-clock guard outside the Ecuadorian embassy to prevent the escape of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] founder [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has risen to £3.8m, the Metropolitan [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] have revealed.
The amount, which covers the period between June 2012 and the end of May 2013, was disclosed in response to a letter to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I'm not sure why anyone would complain. For the amount that it costs to Guard Julian Assange we are either:
A> Helping to track down an international predatory pedophille network
B> Working towards justice for a little girl taken from her family and denied a proper burial by her parents following an accident resulting from neglect.
This then resulted in the deception of the general public and a fraudulent 'fund' being set up to get as much money as possible, whilst they went on the attack and aimed to destroy the life of a respected police officer who headed the investigation and also attempt to blackmail and bankrupt a British Retiree who merely sought to increase public awareness of scenario B. Not to mention all the people working in the dark and shadows within PR firms, digital reputation management, solicitors, politicians and media organisations that are going to look ridiculous should this scenario prove accurate.
As this money is coming from a separate fund authorized direct by government and not direct from police budgets, it is the one positive thing the con's have done.
I have the patience to await people's careers being ruined due to their connections with this case. From the poor graduates or interns that are set to read this very website and report back, to the rest of the TAPAS. They may have initially bent the truth to protect their reputations, but it is only by straightening things out that they will leave all of this with their dignity in tact. I have no doubt that they check in here also from time to time.
New year, new start... time to tell the truth. I'm sure David Payne has (as he see's it) I wonder what he has said so far....

Me too, Tiny. But, maybe they have and the public hasn't been informed. We want a fair trial, after all.
jeanmonroe, I don't have A Level maths but was taught to round up to two decimal points, so the figure should read £88,199.65.

A new pressure on the McCanns?
If I understood it well but it seems t Cameron wants to change a British law, after the elections next Year.
A serious murder case could result in 100 or even 100s of years of prison for the culprit. I heard it on BBC One, at one o'çlock news of today's.
If it is true, it is better that the McCanns hurry up with an eventual trial and that they don't cause too many problems around it, like they did around the rogatory letters.

It's beginning to stink.
How long are they allowed to go on for? Besides the parents already had a fund and help looking for her.
£6,000 a day of taxpayers money to find a girl who went missing in 2007.
If more go missing would it cost another £6,000 per child?
£6,000 a day but until when? What was the point of getting sniffer dogs if in this case they've been ignored even though someone did die in that appartment.
