‘Don’t forget Ben’ pleads Kerry Needham after Maddie boost

Sheffield’s Kerry Needham is hoping the new twist in the Madeleine McCann investigation will boost the search for her son Ben – missing for 22 years.

But Kerry,41, has slammed Prime Minister David Cameron claiming she has never had the help the McCanns have been given.

Kerry was happy that the Kate and Gerry McCann’s hopes of finding their daughter were given a huge boost with news that the Metropolitan Police were preparing to quiz 38 ‘people of interest’ over the disappearance.

But Kerry has made a heartfelt plea for the same help to track down Ben who was snatched from outside a farmhouse on the Greek island of Kos that was being renovated by Kerry’s parents in July 1991.

Since then Kerry, who has a daughter Leighanna ,20, and her family, from Sheffield, have had to finance the search themselves. Earlier this year she published a book ‘Ben’ to help continuing finance for her search.

Said Kerry: “If British police officers are investigating Madeleine’s disappearance and they are actually searching for her that’s brilliant but we expect the same. – they are no different.

“They are different cases obviously but at the end of the day they are two abducted children and what’s good enough for one family should be good enough for all, that’s my opinion.

“Basically we expect the same as the McCanns . There is no bitterness involved but they are two missing children , they are both British so we want the same treatment.

“If all the stops are being pulled out to find Madeleine, which is only right, then we should have the same help.

“We’ve had to do everything ourselves. We’ve had to physically get on aeroplanes and go and follow up sightings and things like that ourselves.

“The finances have been down to us, whereas millions of pounds have been thrown at the Madeleine McCann case . We haven’t had that . That was one of the reasons I needed to write my book to try and raise awareness and finances for us to continue the search.

“I know we are getting a lot of help from South Yorkshire Police now. I can’t complain about what they are doing but obviously it does come down to resources – they can only work with what they’ve got.

“We want South Yorkshire Police backed 100 per cent by the government and pull out all the stops to find Ben as well as Madeleine.”

When Kerry appealed directly to Prime Minister David Cameron to intervene, as he did in the McCann case, she was left upset and disappointed and binned his reply.

Said Kerry: “I wrote to David Cameron some time ago and eventually I did get a reply but I threw it in the bin. I’ve kept all the letters from the Foreign Office and other places but I threw that one in the bin.

“My letter to him was heartfelt from a mother begging for help. I’ve written to every Prime Minister since Ben disappeared.

“The last straw was when everything went into finding Madeleine and I wrote to him and begged him to help me saying what’s the difference between Ben and Madeleine?

“The reply was a very political letter full of jargon that meant nothing to me. It was a cold, blunt letter with no warmth at all. It wasn’t a letter from a father sympathising and empathising with a mother whose child has been missing for more than 20 years. It upset me.

“It wasn’t personal there were no feelings in it for me. I had asked what was the difference between my family and Madeleine’s family. I told him they were getting everything and I was getting nothing. I asked him why , as Prime Minister, he couldn’t step in and help me.

“The reply wasn’t what I wanted and not what I wanted to hear, it was just a bog standard letter.”I wanted him to step in and help and to push everything. I mean he’d had conversations with Kate and Gerry on the telephone and I was asking him what’s the difference between them and me?

“I’m very happy that the McCann’s are getting all the help but I want the same. South Yorkshire Police have been amazing but more can be done if there are more resources like the Madeleine McCann case has got .”

The problem for Kerry is: will the mainstream press pick up on this story?

It is shocking and absolutely disgusting.
I want to know WHY the McCanns get special treatment over and above what anyone else gets.
The two cases are directly comparible on the surface, so WHY the different treatment?

 Unfortunately the Mcscammers are involved with something that the government wants to keep quiet and Kerry isn't.

 They certainly are comparable cases. It's interesting to see that TM latched onto that. Kerry Needham has been thrown a few crumbs with a dig in Kos. She's also followed Kate's lead by writing a bewk. It's almost as if a new template for missing children has been spearheaded by the McCanns!!!

Kerry didn't even get any "fluffy words" by the sound of it. The Sun should pick up this story and publish an open letter to David Cameron on their front page. I'm sure he'll respond with the offer of a £3m investigation within 24 hours. Pity Rebekah Brooks is not there to put him in an arm-lock and threaten Teresa May with front page exposure until he agrees.

I am really annoyed having read this.

Kerry should write to the editor of the Daily Express and other editors of the Nationals and let them know about the letter Cameron sent her.   Pity she binned it, they might have put it on the front pages of their papers.

She should ask the Express to set up a petition so that she receives equal help from the Government.  Failing that, see a solicitor and ask about her family's human rights including Ben.    It is a human right to be treated the same as any other individual I believe and if not keep asking why not.

Also Kerry how about contact wee Kelly for a slot on her sofa and get her to ask why Ben is being treated differently.

I hope the mainstream press pick up on this. The special treatment of the McCanns has been commented on by Carole Malone on Thursday night's Sky newspaper review and yesterday on a tv panel chat show it was commented on, though without special reference to the Needham case.
 People will start asking questions the longer the Maddie investigation continues especially without looking as if it is going to be resolved.
 I loved Carole's barbed comment at the end of her opinion.....

Yes, it's awful, actually a real slap in the face for all those of us who don't have money and influence. I wish Kerry had kept the letter, it would have been interesting to see what it said.

Taking all recent news together, I wonder if the McCanns plea for assistance went something along the lines of we're innocent, please do something to clear our names so we can get on with our lives? Kerry and her family have never been under suspicion the way the Tapas group have. (If that were the intention behind the investigation then it wouldn't have to cost anything like £5 million, just someone official to say they're innocent, we've done all we can. You don't suppose any of the Tapas group know anything the government don't want us to know?)


The only other difference that I can see is that actually Madeleine, if alive, is still a child, Ben, on the other hand, would now be an adult.

If the government had had any sense, they could've embarked on a European investigation into paedophile networks, which potentially could've thrown some light onto both cases and in the process made Europe safer for all our children, that wouldn't be viewed as £5 million being spent on just one family.

Carole Malone always strikes me as rather sceptical but it's not the police who decided Maddie was special, it was the media and politicians and that's why I don't trust the review/investigation and wouldn't be surprised at all if it's a complete whitewash. I don't think the police were in favour of it at the time but it was foisted on them by Brooks and Cameron. IMO, there's a strong possibility that SY are not carrying out an open, honest investigation because their hands are tied and they've been instructed to follow the direction that suits certain people. The latest announcement from SY was hyped by the media as a "huge" story, so "big" there was a 2 pm "embargo" on it, but it was nothing we didn't already know. It was as embarrassing as an Edgar/Mitchell press conference and Andy Redwood looked like he'd recently had electrodes attached to his head. It's as if SY pull the "leads" out of a hat - what will it be today 195, 38, 20, 12 or 5? - just to keep the story going. And as SY's announcement has come just prior to the trial it makes you wonder if the two are connected.

I have no doubt the mainstream press are aware of all of this. Why they don't highlight the disparity is anyone's guess.

As for the letter Kerry put in the bin, I would imagine it's easy to get another copy via FOI.

Were Greek Police files ever released regarding Ben Needham?

They lack a Doctor in the family I guess.
