Absolutely Peter. There is definitely a way out, but I wouldn’t want to wait to see what the others do there won’t be any deals or understanding left on the table by then. If they thought they were covering up an accident they have to assist the investigation, to sit and wait haunted by worry about what will happen when it all goes tits up as it inevitably will is the alternative and by then there will be no deals on the table. All that will remain will be the finger of accusation and a justice system with little mercy. The McCanns and the Tapas 7 obstructed the possibility of finding Madeleine by failing to call the police as soon as they found her missing (allegedly) and then Kate failing to answer all questions put to her by the PJ, failing to do a reconstruction...the list of obstructions by the McCanns is endless.

So given that they had his assets frozen at that time they will have known what resources he had to meet their libel demand and given that those assets still remain frozen now, how does the pro's justification for the Mccann's abandoning the suit on cost grounds make any sense?
There's no mention here they will sue him dependent on cost and there's also no mention of this being a monetary issue for them.
So to launch action knowing he had 300,000 euros then and that’s still frozen and sat there today how could the cost of action against potential assets gained if they won be a justification for them to enter into negotiations a week before the trial begins citing extortionate costs and Amaral's lack of assets?
They knew precisely what he had when they sued him and they will have known approximately what the costs would have been.
Had cost been a valid reason now it would have been equally valid and indeed the same when they launched the suit.
Monetary wise, both in terms of costs and Amaral's assets nothing has changed.

What is certain is that since the start of the investigation there were incongruent and even contradictory situations concerning the witness statements; the telephone records of calls that were made and received on mobile phones that belonged to the couple and to the group of friends that were on holidays with them; the movements of people right after the disappearance of the little girl was noticed, concerning the state in which the bedroom from where the child disappeared from was found (closed window? open window? partially open window?) etc., and the mystery would only become even thicker due to the clues that were left by the already mentioned sniffer dogs. - The Words of a JUDGE in relation to the McCanns

So he didn't say that the McCanns had caved in, he said they were seeking an out of court settlement. Seeking an out of court settlement is not abandoning the case it is what it says "seeking a settlement". I wonder what demands they will make on Amaral.

I wouldn't of thought the McCanns are in a position to make any demands as they want to settle out of court, avoiding a court case...why? I think GA will be calling the shots.

I know why the Beckhams bottled it/caved in against the now defunct NoTW- the latter announced they were to call Rebecca Loos as a defence witness

Body language, ask anyone on this forum it's a foolproof way of assessing state of mind.
Amaral has spent a lot of time in court. The McCanns, The lawyer from Madeira whose name escapes me. his criminal case, I believe he has been sued by his brother for fraud and of course his divorce.
