This about the watches......
Clarence Mitchell backtracks on previous statement about watches
"Mitchell said he was not surprised by the inconsistencies in the initial accounts. 'You had nine people in a bar without watches on, without mobile phones, and absolute panic set in when they realised what had happened.

FAMILY REVERSE STORY OF BREAK IN EVIDENCE
THE spokesman for the family of Madeleine McCann has reversed a statement made in the early days of the search for the missing child (...) However, in the early part of the hunt, friends and family members told journalists that the shutter on the apartment where the McCanns were staying had been broken.
Mr Mitchell made his comments when questioned by a 'Prime Time' team in a report on the disappearance to be screened tomorrow. "There was no evidence of a break-in," said Mr Mitchell.
"I'm not going into the detail, but I can say that Kate and Gerry are firmly of the view that somebody got into the apartment and took Madeleine out the window as their means of escape, and to do that they did not necessarily have to tamper with anything. They got out of the window fairly easily.

Clarence Mitchell DID say they were awaiting DNA results
Mr Mitchell's comments... "We are liaising with the Indian authorities over the incident and await the results of the DNA test." ... were first reported in the Daily Mail article -
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The whole article was updated later that day at 9.32pm and had its title and report changed to...'It's not our Maddie' : McCanns hopes dashed after sighting in India
...which included the later comments about the McCanns seeing photographic evidence with references to the wait for DNA results removed.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Both reporting Mr Mitchell stating that they are liaising with the Indian authorities over the 'incident' and that they are awaiting the results of the DNA tests. Interestingly the First Post updated the article in the proper manner by making an additional update instead of changing the whole article...
EDITOR'S UPDATE: Since this item was posted, a spokesman for the McCann family played down the report, saying there was "nothing to suggest that this is a breakthrough." And in India a regional police chief said he was not aware of the sighting. The update was in reference to this statement from the Deputy Inspector General of Police -
We have not recovered any missing foreign girl from Leh. There is no question of carrying out a DNA test since we do not have the girl. Our field staff in Leh have confirmed that no such girl has been recovered by them. British media reports said that a girl missing for the last four years from Portugal had been sighted in the Leh district of the state. We have no such confirmation from either the police or the district administration."
Abdul Gani Mir
Deputy Inspector General of Police
28.07.11
Just who was initially responsible for this 'sighting' to the press and what photographic evidence of the 'child' have the McCanns laid claim to?

Re: EXAMPLES OF CLARENCE MITCHELL BACTRACKING... ETC.
TAXI-DRIVER IS SURE THAT HE TOOK MADDIE IN HIS CAR
2008
However, way back in 2008, a source connected with the investigation guaranteed to Correio de Manha that the information given by António Castela were "investigated" and the “lead was proven false”.
At that time, Clarence Mitchell responded publicly on behalf of the McCanns to this particular sighting...
Clarence Mitchell, reacted yesterday with amazement at the declarations of the taxi-driver. “The declarations of Mr. Castela are false. They are a perfect nonsense. He can only be mistaken when he says that at that time he transported Kate and Madeleine with three men”, he said. Clarence doubts of the intentions of the taxi-driver. “It astonishes me that only now, ten months later, he talks about this. These are declarations that only cause pain to Kate and Gerry", he said, advancing that that the McCann's daughter has no facial twitches. “The only sign to report is the one she has in the eye.”
2012
In 2012, Clarence Mitchell seems to have wholly changed his mind about the doubtful intentions of Mr Castela, saying it was "deeply shocking" that detectives never interviewed Antonio Castela about his possible sighting of the missing child.
"Mr Castela did absolutely the right thing at the time by reporting his sighting to the PJ. It is clearly deeply shocking that he now tells us he has not been interviewed once by a detective in five years. This is exactly the sort of thing that needs to be looked at in the investigative review now being carried out by the Metropolitan Police."
NB : All initial media accounts of this story in 2008 gave Mr Castela's account of 3rd May 2007 before Madeleine went missing. However, current articles in the British media now inaccurately refer to the incident happening on the 4th May. How are the mccanns not sued for these lies and can just say them and get away with them at will. Something stinks and it's not just cadaver.

Mr Mitchell Expresso 29th Sept 2007;
for me it is important that I work with honest people.
The witness statements say that Kate shouted "they've taken her". They are incorrect, I will say no more.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
It may not have been the first thing Kate said, but it seems she said it very soon afterwards;
1485 "No' That's okay. Can you recall shortly after that she went running off to the apartment block and she was saying they've taken her''
Reply "Mm.'
1485 "Is that what you said''
Reply "Mm, yes.'
1485 "She's taken, they've taken her''
Reply "She, you know, obviously there's what we've talked about when, you know, it's portrayed in the press about what she said, they've taken her, and that was definitely not, and that was, you know, or unanimous across everyone we'd all said that was not what she first of all said, you know, she's gone was you know the first words that she said.'
1485 "She first said that she's gone''
Reply "She's gone.'
1485 "And then the second time she said''
Reply "And then, I mean, and then as we were walking up, err and there's you know the exchange of conversation was you know, was they've taken her.'

One was this story that, err, Gerry mcCann had received a string of texts, err, prior to Maddie's disappearance. Was that true or otherwise?
Clarence Mitchell: Err, no it's not. Erm, Gerry had his mobile with him on holiday, I can't go into the details of this, because this is details which is contained within the Police file. But err, some elements of it emerged in a cour.. an old Court ruling that was reported last week, that's what you're referring to. Erm, Gerrry is as baffled as anybody about these alleged calls to his mobile, er, he only had a few calls when he was on holiday, mainly from people at work who weren't even aware he was abroad. And, erm, you know, the phones were used as they would be on holiday, the occasional phone call but nothing major.

We now know that Gerry McCann did receive 16 texts in two days;
There were 16 SMS messages, in total,

It doesn't seem to have put Mr Mitchell off working for the McCanns when it turned out that they didn't always tell him the whole truth. Perhaps he never realised?
