Sworn secrecy - if he and / or KM know any secrets about the disappearance of MM they are obliged to report them to the police.

Re: McCanns Private Investigators contract ended
I would have though that any contract with a company would end before the company was struck off at Companies House. Apparently not then.
Arthur Cowleys Company was outed as a sham in May 2011, In June 2011 there was an application for the company to be struck off. October 2012, the contract ends?
Given the the company was running on a cashflow of £500 and fixed assets of £850 with no website (apart from a domain name set up by Andrew Dickman in Jan 2009) and no contact facilities, how on earth could they possibly have carried out a worldwide search for a missing child? Neither is there any profit in that company.
It is also noticed that the company was set up on 10 June 2009, purely for McCann purposes despite Clarence telling us that a new team of crack detectives had been employed, given us the impression that these were a credible and well established PI company who the media consistently and incorrectly referred to as Alpha Group Investigations.
What is the purpose of this latest Express report?

It's apparent Cowley wasn't a practising PI when he was talent scouted by team mccanns, yet he was willing to set up a company especially for the purpose of accepting mccanns offer and still agreed to be gagged. Says a lot about the circumstances surrounding the hire.
Wonder what transpired during the preliminary meetings that caused his decision to come out of retirement.
Could it be after weighting up each other over a cuppie, both sides arrived in a mutual silent understanding that neither side needs to be too serious about it. Meaning the PIs knew the mccanns couldn't care less if they are not up to the work, while the mccanns knew the type of PIs they approached wouldn't say no to easy money.
Judging by the total silence from all their PIs (transmogrification of phantom abductor does not count) they all were contracted under *gag* term.
The sworn secrecy has absolutely nothing to do with kate's secret (dont imagine for one moment she will let her mask slipped in front of strangers) but has everything to do with preventing them from talking to the tabloids about their lean fee and leaner job scope, which could undo team mccanns fabrications to the Press about the inflated fee and international capability.
Why not? Both sides got what they want. The mccanns got their PIs framework while the PIs got easy money in their pocket.
All the while both sides pretending to each other their intention was honourable - a silent collude if you like where no spoken words were needed. Each side understood the other side very well - no comprehensive questions will be asked about the background circumstances surrounding the missing child by the PIs of mccanns, and no questions will be asked about the search by the mccanns of the PIs. Done deal.
On the premise that the mccanns knew exactly what happened to their daughter, it makes sense they wont waste money on costly and reliable PIs when cheap ones will suffice for their purpose of a framework. It's a no wonder they hired a series of PIs either of unscrupulous reputation or hard up ones, not through lack in brain dept or intelligence, which they proved they have that in abundance well applied in other areas,
for example in their hire of spoken creature and a series of lawyers, they displayed excellent intelligent and intelligence to secure the best in the land.
When the matter of their PIs comes before Court, wonder how their expensive lawyers are going to argue their inept ability with the hire. A series of bad luck.......... a hem?

True, experienced investigators may actually have found out what happened to Madeleine - the last thing the McCanns would want is to pay a firm to come to the conclusion they were involved.

It's very likely this lot they hired also concluded they were involved and not really wanting them to search per se. It was a quid pro quo situation where both parties have their own hidden agenda and are hence satisfied with the unspoken sham contract.
The biggest difference between hiring a firm and these individuals is cost. Besides a firm may not want to become involve with the mccanns especially may not be so easy to gag.
All in all the PIs as the Fund needs to be investigated.
