IS IT THE END?
I really do feel that we are now reaching the end game.
The Fund's online store has been down for quite some time now, which suggests that they are no longer able to ask for donations. If this had happened 6 years ago, the forums would have been buzzing
The fact that they are still promoting Jane Tanner's sighting on the official website cannot be helpful to the new investigation(s). The man seen by Jane Tanner has been categorically ruled out, yet his image is still there on the right hand side, directing people to their own reconstruction, their own suspects and their own investigation line. The website is in fact misleading, not so different to their suppression of the Smiths' sighting. They are sticking with their own 'findings' and there must be a reason for it - will it form part of their defence? Will they claim they are being set up? Where does Jane Tanner stand now? Has she accepted that the man she saw was an innocent tourist collecting his child from the creche? If she has, then she no longer on the side of Team McCann, so how can they rely on her evidence?
Despite all the messages of assurance given by DCI Redwood, it is apparent there is a rift. Many of us suspected this when Crimewatch was broadcast, as actors were used and it was filmed in a different country. Some of the images of Kate from the programme would suggest she was speaking through gritted teeth. Every picture tells a story and the Kate and Gerry we saw on Crimewatch were not the carefree, full of beans couple we saw in the summer of 2007.
The elaborate way in which this case is being investigated seems bizarre, and it might well be some detectives (and TV presenters) will find themselves nominated for BAFTAs for their convincing displays of loyalty towards the McCanns, if it turns out to be the coup of the century. But everything about this case is bizarre, and who knows how far the web goes, the loss of the child was just the beginning, as we who have followed this case well know.
Gerry and Kate are a wily pair, they have defended themselves rigorously since day 1, so any case against them must be watertight. I have no doubt the Press are ready to leap when the time comes, hence the statements from Scotland Yard 'clearing' the McCanns and their companions, I think most of the statements have been designed to keep the Media at bay.
Apparently there will be an update on Crimewatch tomorrow night, and today of course we have the trial. Interesting times eh?

It's not the end, but it might be the beginning of the end, but then it also might just be the halfway stage.Cristobell wrote:Bumped.

I have yet to view the most recent CW update but have read the comments here about it.
I think the reason the official site Find Madeleine hasn't been updated with photos of Smithman is easily understood. Would anyone in their position put in a prominent place on the site anything which looks similar or has been referred to as similar to Gerry. It would be senseless since they are supposedly looking for someone else to fit the crime to!
(This sounds as though its happened before in the mystery of Madeleine, or am I dreaming like one of the Smiths)
Anyway to get back to CW. From what has been said it sounds awfully like AR has dug in and decided that even though thousands of callers named a certain person he is not going to be swayed. One referred to as his 'poker face' - well if you had received the wrong answer to a plea for help identify a photofit one would be slightly miffed I expect.
I don't think anything as changed other than the fact that the more the McCanns profess innocence the more the public protest and in greater numbers. They have realised this so they are dumbing down. Maybe even let AR say the trail has gone cold. Investigation over.
It could go either way at the moment.
Though I will say that if this is just to frighten the horses - then the more times they do it the better.

Redwood must have known for absolute certain that thousands of people would ring in naming Gerry. It was hardly a surprise for him, surely?

More than three and a half thousand, according to him. "A fantastic response."whatliesbehindthesofa wrote:Redwood must have known for absolute certain that thousands of people would ring in naming Gerry. It was hardly a surprise for him, surely?
Interesting reply. He could have said "despite the wonderful response it has not taken us any further and I continue to appeal to anyone who blah bla bla . . .
But he didn't.
He gave the clear impression that that particular avenue is closed.

Yes, normally you would expect a quick refresh of the e-fits etc., but nothing. Wonder if it had anything to do with the Sunday Times article?PeterMac wrote:More than three and a half thousand, according to him. Is this good news or bad ? I could not watch the program as it was not shown here so just reading comments, some positive but others are critical, hard to get a handle on things !PeterMac wrote:More than three and a half thousand, according to him.
