Redwood can hardly go on international TV and say he totally discounted the possibility of anything, before he even read the papers or concluded all his avenues of enquiry, can he ?
That would be as ludicrous as totally discounting the evidence of the dogs out of hand.
No sensible professional person would do that. Would they ?

What in that 4/5 minutes?? So this is the evidence she could still be alive?? Doh.
This is getting more and more bizarre by the minute. In all the other articles, it has said that when DCI Redwood was asked what evidence he had that Madleine could be alive, he said he would not comment on that. Now we have this snippet suddenly appear in the Independant. It is a total farce!

Panorama tonight to claim that News International pressured David Cameron into new Maddy McCann inquiry, quoting No10 insiders
Is the shit about to hit the fan?
News International titles have always been supportive of mccanns so what would be their purpose of pressuring DC into an inquiry?
What did they hope to achieve by that since the review is beyond their control?
How is an independent review conducted by Police who pledge allegiance to the Crown going to suit the News International agenda?
Either there is something very sinister going on involving media, politicians, and Police, or News International was doing the dirty on the mccanns?

Just looking at the quote again above he says taken not abducted, He says this later in the article........
Mr Redwood added: "We would like the case to be reopened, our case is clear... (But) I should stress quite clearly that the decision is in Portugal."
He said this did not mean that his review of the case was toothless.
"What we are not doing is just passively passing through material. We are actively seeking to bring closure in this case."
There is a "timeline of opportunities" indicating the little girl was taken "as a criminal act", he added.

Yes, but ........... have they analysed ALL the evidence - I doubt it. Have they looked at the Mcs bank account, credit card details, phone calls, medical records and any other relevant records. If they haven`t, they can hardly say they`ve analysed all the evidence.
No, Redwood says in the interview they are only a quarter of the way through, so still 75% to go! So how they can be giving statements at this early stage is rather strange. They say they have evidence she may be alive, how can that be, they either know she is or they don't.
As it is only a review at the moment I doubt SY would be able to look at bank accounts, credit card details, until the case was officially opened as an ongoing Police operation again. They are obviously looking into every detail to make sure they have enough substance to open the case again so all these things can be looked into.
As for saying they believe Madeleine McCann was abducted, maybe it's their way of keeping the investigation ongoing, as if they said she's probably dead it would be harder for them to investigate if they haven't got a body and would be easy to say she was killed by "person or persons unknown", if that makes sense.
Yes, it is strange and not looking good. It`s plain to see they are making statements without having ALL the evidence. Probably its only the PJ (with a judge`s warrant) that can even apply for medical records, bank details etc., so they certainly have not got all the evidence or all the pieces of the jigsaw and should not be saying so.

Missing girl Madeleine McCann could still be alive: police
LONDON—British police on Wednesday asked Portugal to reopen the case of missing girl Madeleine McCann, saying that as the fifth anniversary of her disappearance approaches there is a possibility she is still alive.
Police also released a new image of what McCann would likely look like today, expressing hope that she would be found even years after the then-3-year-old vanished on May 3 while on a trip to Portugal with her family.
The case sparked global interest because of heartbreaking images of the girl beamed around the world and, in part, because her parents were briefly considered suspects before they were cleared.
In a rare press conference on the case, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said he is leading a team of 37 police officers reviewing some 40,000 pieces of evidence gathered so far. The team has identified some 195 possible leads to be followed up on, he said.
Redwood said forensic evidence of the sequence of events around her disappearance shows there are moments when she could have been snatched by criminals. He said he had an “open mind” on who could have abducted her, but asked for the help of Portuguese authorities, who closed the case in 2008.
“We would like the case to be reopened; our case is clear,” Redwood told reporters Wednesday. “I should stress quite clearly that the decision is in Portugal.”
He acknowledged that police have to consider that McCann may be dead despite hopes that she is alive.
“Our drive on both scenarios is of equal measure,” he said, choosing his words carefully.
There has been no reliable indication of what might have happened to the girl despite numerous reported sightings from around the world.
Redwood said he has made seven visits to Portugal and is working closely with Portuguese police officers. He has had regular contact with the missing girl’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, who have pressed to keep the case in the public eye, publishing a book and appearing on the “Oprah Winfrey Show.”
Police said the investigation has cost about 2 million pounds ($3.2 million) so far.
He has had regular contact with the missing girl’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann,!! !
The Head of the Review regularly updating the mccanns? Is this real?
Would this be reason Kate got material for her epilogue?

There is something most peculiar and unsettling about all this. As has always been in this case. However if there is in fact real new evidence which supports SY plumping for stranger abduction as the explanation for the disappearance surely they will need to share some of this at some point with the tax paying public. Nothing would make me happier than to learn that this little girl is alive and unharmed. I would be thrilled to have to revise my view based on new promising evidence or leads. However the evidence we currently have points in other directions. On another note thank god for the currently free internet as we can clearly no longer rely on even our supposed quality press to have any regard for balance.

I will have a front row seat with bells on. The little ones, well, it's milk, biscuits, story and to the bedroom with them with a little something to aid sleep (I jest) so that I can watch this in relative peace. I'll reserve my comments 'till SY have concluded their findings. After all, the fat lady hasn't even come on stage yet to sing and as my dear wee Granny used to say, "There's many a slip 'twixt cup and lip...".

No I think perhaps worried by the growing internet criticism of the McCanns, NI perhaps pushed for the review as the final whitewash.

British police are still hoping to find Madeleine McCann alive after reviewing 40, 000 pieces of evidence that turned up 195 new "investigative leads" in the missing girl case.
McCann, a then three-year-old child, went missing while on a family vacation in Portugal on May 3, 2007, just nine days shy of her fourth birthday.
British police are still hoping to find Madeline McCann alive after reviewing 40, 000 pieces of evidence that turned up 195 new “investigative leads” in the missing girl’s case.
She disappeared from her family's apartment in Praia da Luz while her parents were dining at a nearby tapas restaurant with their friends.
Her disappearance led to a worldwide search, with some citing the toddler in Belgium, Spain, Morocco, France, Malta, and Australia.
Her parents, Kate and Gerry, were named official suspects by Portuguese police four months after McCann's disappearance, reported Reuters. British media pointed to the parents as suspected killers, but Portuguese police dropped the case in July 2008 citing lack of evidence.
The McCann family has tried to keep the search for their daughter alive by launching the Madeleine Foundation, hiring private investigators to look into the case, writing a book, and appearing on the 'Oprah Winfrey Show.'
In 2011, McCann's parents wrote to British Prime Minister David Cameron asking him to look into the case.
Cameron ordered a new probe by British police.
Around 37 investigators poured through 100,000 pages of evidence from British and Portuguese officers on the little girl's disappearance, leading them to identify 195 "investigative opportunities." They are also developing "what they believe to be genuinely new material" said Metropolitan Police to the BBC.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood told reporters that new information has come to light that could help break the case wide open, though he would not go into specifics.
"We are working on the basis of two possibilities here. One is that Madeleine is still alive; and the second that she is sadly dead. Based on the former, we are releasing the age-progression image today [Wednesday] with a specific appeal. If you know where Madeleine McCann is now or you have new direct information/evidence about what has happened to her then please contact us," he said, according to the New York Post.
Redwood said he has gone to Portugal seven times after McCann's disappearance, visiting the family's apartment and meeting with the review team.
Redwood told the Associated Press that evidence revealed that there were moments when McCann may have been abducted, but he is keeping an "open mind" on who that could possibly be, though he believes her disappearance was the result of "a criminal act by a stranger."
"Most significantly, the message we want to bring to you is that, on the evidence, there is a possibility that she is alive and we desperately need your help today to appeal directly to the public for information to support our investigation," said Commander Simon Foy.
Police have released a photo of how McCann would look now, at age 9.
In April, Spanish police said they were investigating a sighting of a girl with a "strong physical resemblance" to McCain in Nerja, Spain, reported the New York Post.
"We genuinely believe there is a possibility that she is alive," said Redwood to Reuters. "We would like the case to be reopened."
"What we are not doing is just passively passing through material. We are actively seeking to bring closure in this case," he said, according to the Independent.
British police said the investigation has cost £ 2 million ($3.2 million) so far.

What I don't understand is, if the case is reopened with the co-operation of the PJ, the PJ seemed to be adamant that Madeleine died in the apartment, but SY believe that she was "abducted", so how are they going to sort that out???
Surely if the PJ are the senior investigators as the crime was committed in their country, they're not just going to ignore their findings and look for an abductor. Or is everything being hushed up on the pretext there may have been an abductor whilst looking at other evidence also.

Well, they should start with an explanation of how this stranger got into the apartment. Not in and out of the window that is highly unlikely, no footprints on the bed under the window, no tampering with the blinds.
Whilst they have already given away the time gap that makes them think Madeleine may be still alive, perhaps they should also tell us when this gap was.

Madeleine McCann might "still be alive". As might Lord Lucan. Except LUCANS a safer bet, given there's NO evidence to the contrary.
