Madeleine McCann detective made £300k from book about tragedy
THE Portuguese detective who was thrown off the Madeleine McCann case has made a fortune spouting lies about the missing girl’s parents.
Gonçalo Amaral has been paid at least £320,000 for a book and DVD peddling claims that Kate and Gerry McCann covered up Madeleine’s death in their holiday apartment.
The McCanns are suing Amaral for at least £1million for libel and breaching their human rights.
Their case against him was due to be heard in Lisbon last week but was postponed when he split from his legal team.
Amaral was booted off the police investigation following the disappearance of the three-year-old in 2007 after five months in charge.
His book – The Truth About The Lie – became a bestseller in Portugal, even though the country’s top legal officials insist there is no evidence to back up his accusations.
Amaral is believed to have made £1million from information about the case.
A legal source close to the McCanns said: “Amaral made an astonishing amount of money from his campaign to discredit the McCanns.
“I don’t know how he sleeps at night, knowing he cashed in on the tragic story of a young girl’s disappearance.”
Lawyers for the couple are expected to present proof of some of the ex-detective’s earnings when the case is heard.
They will show Amaral received at least £287,000 from the book publishers and £33,600 for a DVD.

I think that the question (paraphrased slightly) about how do they sleep at night, having cashed in on a young girl's disappearance, should be addressed to the McCanns.
What a truly dreadful article.

Couldn't agree more Jean.
The issue is whether his book was fair comment and if it was, how much he earned from it, is irrelevant.
And of course the McCanns only initiated their legal action about a year after Amaral's book was published and selling really well and they knew there was ££££ to be got if they won.

The McC's waited...and waited....and waited for a couple of years for the book to make money before deciding to sue Amaral for all that dough. Didn't Smethurst say they were suing for £1.2million and reserve the right to increase that sum if the book makes more money. In other words they want it all.
I seem to recall that Amaral lost his career and pension and his family because of this case whereas the McC's have made millions of pounds from the neglect of their children which led to one of them going missing for nearly 5 years.
And how can the Daily Record say the book is spouting lies unless they know the truth? And if they know the truth then they have a duty to publish it and tell the truth to the two police forces so that no more millions of taxpayers money is wasted on this mystery, which according to CR it is not a mystery. Which means they must know the truth too.

Re: Madeleine McCann detective made £300k from book about tragedy
I understood they are suing Amaral for a million pounds or euros. Since thanks to them, he lost his job five years ago, 300.000 after tax isn't going to go that far if you take into account the costs of legal fees.
So how are they expecting to get one million out of him? It's always and always been about the money. Never about Maddie.

Hmm, and yet saying the disappearance of Madeleine is a mystery is libellous?? I hope someone is sending all these article to Mr Amaral.

Well, the timing is suspect.
What can one say, except that if it is true, then 300K dwarfs in comparison to what the mccanns were reported to have made - 2M from their book!
The only people profiting from Maddie's name are her parents. They have a responsibility to find her, not write books about their accounts, where the truth are hidden in their lies.
I can see why they need more money. They still have several legal suits to settle and their lawyers don't come cheap.
It's a shame the search for Maddie is reduced to legal suits ( in the name of search for her), when it is actually about the sanitizing the stench surrounding the mysterious of her disappearance.

Re: Madeleine McCann detective made £300k from book about tagedy
The 'search' for Madeleine stopped ages ago. Where are her parents, family, extended family, close friends etc etc etc actually actively searching and campaigning for a full re-investigation? Their silence speaks volumes. The McCanns and therefore their families and supporters are too interested in libel actions rather than a concerted effort to search for the poor mite. God Bless you sweet Madeleine, we on this forum want to help you get justice.

I dont know how Kate McCann was able to sleep at night within days of her eldest daughters alledged abduction (source Kate McCann's Womans Hour Interview BBC Radio 4)

Well, I have no doubt Amaral sleeps rather well because he wrote the book to get justice for Madeleine.
The only people cashing in on her are her parents, and apparently they slept very well hours after Maddie mysteriously disappeared.
Could it be her disappearance wasn't mysterious to them at all, hence ........!

Re: Madeleine McCann detective made £300k from book about tragedy
exactly aiyoyo!!! at least his book(s) contain ACTUAL FACTS and EVIDENCE to support his theory of what happened.......I can't believe Madeleine's parents even slept a WINK the night she went missing...... sorry but NO PARENT WHOSE CHILD HAS GONE MISSING WOULD CARE ABOUT SLEEP or care about the fact that it was 'dark, so dark' as KM said... you just would NOT sleep a wink!!! Your nails, hair, knees, elbows, arms and legs would be skint, scraped, bleeding and you'd be sweating buckets, searching, climbing, tearing at shrubbery and rocks to see where she was !!!!!aiyoyo wrote:Upsy Daisy wrote:“I don’t know how he sleeps at night, knowing he cashed in on the tragic story of a young girl’s disappearance.”

Re: Madeleine McCann detective made £300k from book about tragedy
How can parents who claim they believed their 3 year old child had been snatched by a paedophile sleep within hours of the alleged snatch? It's impossible IMO unless they (parents) had been sedated. Sleep will not enter the equation.
And they wonder why people suspect them.

Re: Madeleine McCann detective made £300k from book about tragedy
The marvel of this is they weren't sedated - why would they sedate themselves when every minute counts from the moment they discovered Maddie's gone?
Kate told Oprah Winnie it was too dark to search.
Yet the darkness didn't stop more than half the villagers, holiday makers, and police from searching, except the mccanns, whose missing child they were looking for. Hein? Non?
The mccanns were snoring away, then got up at pre-dawn (after the searchers were gone) the following morning to jump through walls/hedges and look into ditches according to kate in her book.
Strange thoughts BTW since they were adamant she was taken by paedophile, what made them think that the paedophile would dump her in the nearby ditches? What about earlier searchers - surely they cant have missed if there was anything in the ditches, especially Police searchers who'd search dogs with them.
Not only their reason for not searching is not credible, even their belated reaction to search in ditches is beyond belief.
Maybe the mccanns would like to explain to the Police how they were able to sleep so well literally hours after they claim she was taken by paedophile, bearing in mind in particular kate's bewk page 129 description of her vivid imagination of what the paedophile had done to her little girl. Is that normal behavior of people whose child is taken by paedophile just hours earlier?
They need to explain to the Police what they were doing 24 hours earlier that made them their body system took control of their mind faculty that they were unable to fight sleep despite themselves hence unable to join the searchers . Their sleep action and reason for not searching are all contrary to normal behaviors of parents whose child they claim was taken by paedophile just hours earlier.
And, they wonder why people don't believe them.
They knew all along. We know they knew, and they know we know they knew..
Touching on the word "mystery" - that surely is subjective, depending whether you're in the know or not.
They can apply to imprison people, but they can't imprison people's thoughts.
